I hope your right simon ,its just neither signing really makes me think , wow mcdonnells signed two top players ,, both come with some doubt .Austin is probably the one who may show something ,but we can only hope . this season has been very disappointing with some of the individual peahearted efforts by some

So which, what type of players were you **realistically** hoping for?

What an anti-climax …...... all that build up just for that.

Disappointed eh?

Yeah …...... but not surprised .......... you never know they might go allright .........I'm still not in the right frame of mind to be all enthusiastic and looking for positives.

maybe a tough front rower ,and a classy 5/8 .but you right ink .wests never do make those big signings so I suppose I should never get my hopes up and aim higher than I expect .o and just quietly ,, I would have used some of this money to keep Brendan santi …

The signings strengthen the halves which we need, strengthen the back row which we need they are far from marquee but an improvement on what we have for now.
I think they are stop gap signings,Austin may allow a bit more i me for Moses to come along,he reminds me a little of Lewis promising.
Patterson if he plays to his potential is definitely hard to handle its just a matter of him being about to do it within himself,I'd say he's a poor mans Ellis which we miss.
Lets face it we weren't going to sign SBW or anyone of that ilk this year.

Something I posted not long ago on another forum….re: ''average signings/new recruits".

_"Is it the players we get, or the coaching they get when they get here, the culture they walk into...the attitude in the joint?\
\
We must have a lot of bad luck, where teams like Melb & Manly make new recruits even better\
\
Coincidence?"_

I think it'll be a few years if we are even able to make a play for a real top notch buy...we need to be in a position where they want to come first...2nd last isnt that position - the clean out will help tho

Thanks Ink - Paterson looks good, runs hard, tackles well and seems to have a good offload. I think he will be a good buy.

yeah you've hit the nail on the head . im just disappointed that I cant enjoy my side . thank Christ I have junior league to get my hit of the game .

Now we will have a couple of forwards that can keep the ball alive. Patterson and Kapow. We used to have a few forwards that had this skill, but it was "Sheensed" out of them. Namely, Big Red, Fifita and young Groat.

I think Patterson is someone that will definitely add something to our pack. Blake could be value as he is looking for an opportunity and he will get that. I think we still need a half and I'd like us to get Wallace on a 1 year deal and definitely a forward enforcer for next year, then I'd be happy to see how we progress next year before we go into the market for top liners.

Iam with you think wallace would be good and we could use brooks every so often with wallace going to 5/8, if we need to and a real mongrel forward would be nice.

I can honestly say I am really happy and excited for both those signings.

Austin is an absolute gun.

Patterson is that big threat edge forward we have lacked in terms of offloading and line running. He is a lot like Fulton in a bigger body

Paterson has played for indigenous all stars a few times and was even touted as a bench origin prospect during his time at Newcastle. Seeing his wife was desoperate to come home I don't think we'd be paying a lot for him. Its only one season and he can play nsw cup if he doesn't aim up, but without the security of a longer deal I think he would be busting a gut to impress.

Austin is a funny one. Where does he play? 14? Starting 6? Back up centre for Lawrence/simona? Not really experienced enough to mentor Brooks so someone like Wallace or Finch might still be useful. Anasta isn't really the playmaking coach we cant to mentor our young halves, but if we could get Joey to come to training once a week that would be great!

Great footage of Patterson , looks like he know how to run hard and straight , and offload , Blake will add heaps to our team , he is quality , nice package ink

soon we will have the record for signing the most fringe first grade players, how the hell do the roosters always get good signings?

I don't really agree with people writing off Patterson because of "off field demons", I actually think it might be a bit of a plus. He's been through the rigours of the NRL and can help all our young blokes, and on a one year deal he'll definitely putting in, which is more than I can say about most of our team. If someone stretched out BMM, taught him some footy smarts and told him to run straight, we'd have Corey. Nice edge combination, and Austin starting 5/8 with Brooks for me. Really excited by these signings, bit of thinking for a change - and no ridiculous long term deals!

anyone can look good in the highlights imo. all it shows is that they have potential- let's see if potter can bring the best out in them. both are relatively still young

Good signings

Identifying players with a lot of potential but without the price-tag is the way recruiting should be done.
These guys will fit right into the squad and will be allowed to blossom.

top stuff!
