Wests Tigers sign Junior Kiwi...

I gave up on expecting marquee signings long long ago

Marquee signing for WT = paying overs for someone who is currently playing well only to become a dud when he joins us…

but it seems we have enough money to buy heaps of depth…go figure....

You do understand we field a NSW Cup side and we have to have enough players to fill it or were you expecting we would forfeit that grade

I understand that the players we currently have playing first grade should be in NSW Cup. Are you suggesting that Buchanan, Lovett, Chee-Kam, Edwards, Luani, Santi, etc should be in first grade? Puh-lease.

Luann is not signed, Santi is not signed and I'd be almost certain this new guy is not signed on an NRL first grade contract and not taking up NRL cap space.

Chadman, I simply can't be happy with this buying policy when I can't make sense of it.

When you say we have little resources, you mean $$. So if our coffers are so damn empty then please tell me why are we spending this non-existent money on MORE (boom or bust) depth?

I don't think my expectation to sign a better calibre of player instead of a bunch of fringe players is unrealistic. My thinking is, if we have money for 10 fringe players then we probably (at least) have money for 1-2 better quality players.

We need to be active in the player market need a reason to get excited about 2016\. But alas, we then we lost one of our gun players in Taupau. So how much more so now.

Crikey, at the very very least us as fans should expect a like for like replacement.

But you do realise NSW cup contracts and NYC contracts are different to NRL contracts and have separate salary caps??

If they say we don't have $ to spend on the top 25, doesn't mean we don't have $ to spend on players on NsW cup and NYC contracts.

A lot of these new signings would NOT be on NRL top 25 contracts. We need players for 3 grades. So far I am on board with these signings and hope that come 2017, we can start to look at signing some NRL talent.

Once again there is excitement in the air over the signing of a reserve grader from a club near the bottom of the ladder. I get the feeling we might have a pretty competive side in 2016…...shame it will be our state cup side

Couldn't agree with you more, bigsiro, but unfortunately, I think we left it too late to sign any player of real value for next season. They've all signed elsewhere by now.

So the question to you - still is (as it is unanswered).

Who were these 2 or 3 first graders that you would have signed with our NSW CUP and NYC salary cap instead of the non NRL standard players we signed?

How were you going to fill the 10 vacant positions in these lower grades as you spent their cap on NRL players?
If we have spent 100% of our NRL Cap and you spend a few hundred thousand of our lower grade caps on first graders - then that takes us over the NRL cap and we get fined.

How does your system work, so we don't go over the cap???

Having watched his highlights on youtube all be it SG Ball a few things jumped out at me. He has good strength in his hips and doesn't go down when hit but tries to push through. He hits with his shoulders and really puts in rather than being another arm grabber. Injuries are a worry but he won't play first grade straight away so give him some time to rehab, gets some form and maybe play a game or 2 towards the end of the year. Still hoping lamar liolevave steps up this year and from what i have seen he has more potential than Aloiai.

I'm happy with signings like this for now as they are providing much needed depth in all positions but if we don't make a few big signings by the end of next season I will have lost all hope. It is clear that they are holding out for the end of 2016 for those big name players coming off contract but my fear is that we will miss out on them to more attractive clubs.

We are bargain bin hunters. Release Taupau who was on next to nothing in 2016 and sign a junior.
We are the joke of the NRL.

This sort of signing is good, predominantly a reserve grade signing with huge potential upside.
This is the sort of player thst mid way through the year the forum will be calling for to get a shot in NRL.
If he kicks on will be very handy.

Well said, Goose! I do not know, who the high quality players are, that some posters want the Tigers to buy. Some posters ask for these players to be listed, but it NEVER happens. Why Not? Probably, because there are none available.
I think the building of a team, where the bulk of NRL players grow and progress through the various team levels within the Club builds the best culture. Wests Tigers have the basis to do this.

I agree guys.

We're also sorting out which juniors are going to kick on and which aren't. I like our recruitment strategy this year. Plenty of hungry guys with potential pushing for first grade berths. The superstars need to be developed from our juniors or by finding diamonds in the rough (Austin/Taupau), not bought. The only exception to that is where we might have a gaping hole.

I never hope we are NEVER in a situation again of having to possibly let go of a bloke like Teddy because we've bought an over-inflated Blair.

The more we reward blokes who have been with the club and have developed into quality players, rather than pay a premium for money hungry club hoppers, the better. Our cap will be better and we'll encourage more quality kids into our system early.
