Wests Tigers sign Rugby winger John Grant

He's speculating, but it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that way, just by accident.

John Grant's probably the thing I'm looking forward to seeing the most next year, assuming he gets a run in first grade. Reports on his size seem to vary from 6'4 to 6'6\. I think 6'5 is more accurate, and 108 kilos, roughly the size of Greg Inglis, only faster. I don't think he'll have too much trouble with the big boffers, assuming they can catch him. It's not just his speed though, it's the length of his stride - it's enormous and very difficult to get your arms around which makes him exccellent 1 on 1\. AND he can catch a ball. Thank GOD he can catch a ball! his kicking's decent too. also he's kinda handsome, dontcha think? He's gonna be the tiger's best kept secret in 2012\. could be rookie of the year if he gets his game together in time.

Yeah we know he's signed but we're disbelieving that he (Humble) will be the halfback next year. Might happen but he's just shooting the breeze at this stage…

Umm ok

Yeah really looking forward to seeing John run around next year - I really cant see how he wont make it, big, fast, tough - he will be great I think!

if people think John Grant is going to be a hit with in the first season, your going to be dissapointed. It may take him 12 mths before he finds his feet in Leauge. Being Young the Tigers will keep him under a watchful eye and see how he develops.. as someone said on here, reminds me a bit of Patty Richards. Tall, Fast, Defends well, Can score tries and strong.. Get his skills upto speed this is one player i cant wait to see develop into a first grader. Just need to give him time. With Lote probably only having a year or two left in him at the Tigers he may well be being groomed for bigger pictures beyond 2012…

As for Humble full back, ill put my money on Reddy or Mitch Brown

John Grant wont be in 1st grade early next year as it will take him a while to get used to playing league & Sheens wont rush him early, as for Humble playing half it wont happen as we will either sign a half up or Lui will still be there next yeart.

Grant is good enough to go into first grade straight away. He is big, fast (probably the fastest in the NRL), has good hands and can tackle. Can any of our present wingers do all that?

Lui should not be with us next year. Enough is enough.

Grant and Lawrence in a footrace would make for interesting viewing.

Pre hip injury Lawrence would be even more interesting.

didnt grant get the 2nd fastest behind Beale in that Union/Leauge/AFL race?

He did, yeah, he pipped Hayne and Inglis but I'm sure there are faster players in the league. I'd like to see him race Gordon or Slater.

[This word has been automatically removed] Patty, I think he could be the next Steve Menzies. That's if they put him on the wing. He can play full-back too so who knows.

sorry, i thought Beale was fastest… my bad.

Still 2nd out of the class field he was in means he is one of the fastest in the NRL... you dont have to be the fastest.. but with his speed and strength.. he will be a huge asset

Grant would smoke Slater in a similar fashion that Lawrence did at Leichardt a couple of years ago.

I agree, a full off season, he will be ready.

For that sprint race, Grant completed a loading session the day of the race, given a proper preperation, he'd prob do better

amazing athlete.

Does anyone else think that because he only has a 12 month contract he will most likely get a chance to push into the starting side early? I know that he needs to adapt to the style of our game and unproven however Sheens always likes a smokie and I think if he handles himself well he could push for some good game time if there are injuries to Beau or Lote. Hope he doesn't end up as another Mathew Reik, although they were different circumstances

Can I just remind all that players very rarely run 100 metres on a football field
Speed is at its most important over 20-30 metres
Lets see how he matches it with the real speedsters over that distance
Most sprinters are building to top speed over 40 -60 metres
Sprinters speed and football speed can sometimes be poles apart

Dont worry about that.
If you have seen him play union he is dynamite off the mark.

Usually when we have exciting players like Grant, we are told not to set the expectations too high and expect him to play next year. But I'm pretty sure we will see him in First Grade sooner, rather than latter.

The transition to league isn't too hard for a winger. I know Lote is different, but he did practically jump of the plane and play 3 days later.

We didn't expect Groat to play this year and woods to only get a handful of games. But that wasn't the case.

Taniella played only a few rounds in after converting from Union.

John will be in the mix from Round 1\. I think he will be the first in line to get game time if Beau or Lote are out.
