Wests Tigers sign Rugby winger John Grant

Not going too good in off season training - Not sure if this guy will even make the NSW cup team.

Needs to improve on catching and passing for starters.

Is he having a go or simply out of his depth, because he seemed to have no trouble catching the ball in Chute shield.

I can't say i'm surprized if this was the case. Everyone getting carried away and having him in their starting line-up for next yr soley because of a highlights package on youtube ,but it takes a lot more then pace to cut it in the NRL. Its easy to look like a superstar in a youtube package, and considering the Shute Shield is weak its easy to look like a star

I am imagining that the training is way harder than anything he has done in Shute Shield and that is the issue

As i said back in September Grant wont be in 1st grade at the start of the season, as there is a big difference toshute shield to the n.r.l, sogive the bloke some time.

How do you know this?

I watched him play union and his catching was great, never dropped a ball whilst I was watching. As for passing, he is a winger, he needs to finish a try and he does this very very well.

So I have my doubts as to what you have posted. Your reasons for this post are unknown.

Its early in the off season too, I have doubts over how much ball work would be involved in training in December…

Virtually none.

The lions share of pre xmas training is fitness

Find the catching and passing thing hard to believe. I don't know about this year but in previous years a football isn't seen at Pre season training until after Christmas. It's purely fitness early on.

Exactly, trouble catching is ridiculous, unless hes lost the ability to catch in the space of a few months.
I watched him play alot of Shute Shield and he was fine under the high ball and passing and kicking.
Some of you guys make it sound like only superstars can play NRL. Half the NRL cant catch or pass properly, so seriously lets see what next year brings for Grant.

Unsubstantiated rumours that he is "having problems" at training !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ???
There are some forum contributors who obviously have "hidden agendas" when it comes to John Grant"!!!!
The bias comments & half-baked innuendos are pathetic to say the least & stick-out like the proverbial "dog's balls"!!!!!!! HA!HA!HA!
Again it's so easy to do a "scathing critique" of these no talent comments!!!!
If you are a true Tigers supporter u will be positive of all the players who are in the roster!!!!!!!
Again guys show some proper standards in here please?????

My reasons for posting are dissapointment and his skill level. His wrestling I can live with, I didn't expect him to ever have done that before but I presumed he must have paticipated in ball skills games before…maybe Union is a bit slower than NRL ohhh No wait maybe the balls are different in Union.

If your able go down to Concord Oval 1.30pm Thursday and watch him for yourself.

I don't have any agenda against John Grant, just the fanfare he's attracting, because its based on nothing. Doesn't matter how much you want to get excited over his speed or what he has done in the Shute Shield (which is about as strong as NSW cup) he still hasn't proven himself at NRL level. If not getting carried away about a guy whose never played FG, and just wanting to wait for himself to prove himself means you have an agenda against the guy, then i guess any negative comment towards any player would be classified as an agenda to you
