Wests Tigers sign Rugby winger John Grant

You can see some highlights of Eastwood v Randwick here:
http://www.abc.net.au/sport/stories/2011/09/19/3320760.htm

Grant scored a hat-trick. Hard not to be excited by the prospect of him backing up our forwards should they break the line.

He's tall,quick,outstanding aerial skills,& a real good spec buy.
As Darren Clake discovered a decade or two ago, pace is handy but not everything.
He's gonna have NRL hardened 100kg+ wingers running at him all day,& if he can put on a couple of kilos in upper body during off season without losing his pace,& toughen up just a little (NRL is a lot more demading than club rugby),he cld well play for City in his debut year.

Yeah but in fairness Darren Clarke came from athletics, not rugby union.

Whatever…. I don't want to Jonah him but we can all see how he goes in the Rugby Grand Final tomorrow at 3:00 on Channel 2\. I've been very impressed so far and think that he has a big future as he's big, really quick, and just seems to bust tackles at will. Fingers crossed.

True,but he was no midget.
Spoke to him one day at pub somewhere,& remember him saying that small but tuff guys like Rod Wishart etc wld just line him up with the ball & bash him time after time.
Grants not in that category, but he'll find club NRL a lot more confrontational than club rugby..& he'll need to be equipped to handle it.If he does,he has the skills to go a long way

Ill be at the Shute Shield final tomorrow, Ill have an added reason for watching John Grant.

Im in little doubt he will be a success.

The physical side of things wont be an issue, he will actually have less collisions in NRL than he has now, albeit bigger impact. The up and back may test him and the kicks along the ground will be new, given his size, an added challenge.

Time will tell I guess

watching the final now and it is a terrible game to watch. scrappy, dominated by completely pointless penalties and kicking and generally tedious. I played a lot of union as a junior and used to love watching it. These days it's rubbish.

What involvment Grant has had though looks alright, including some good 1 on 1 defence. Scored a very easy try too.
He actually reminds me a bit of Pat Richards which is good (probably some wishful thinking there though).

It put me to sleep….though I agree on your points....good game to play, rubbish to watch....and yeh I thought of Patty too

Go Uni

hahahahaha, i recorded it and was watching it on IQ because I was out until ~half an hour after it started. The recording stopped 3 mionutes into extra time. Probably a good thing although the conditions probably played a part in the quality of the game.
Who won and did Grant get the ball in the last 15 mins?

The ref did his best to ruin it!

Im a rugby fan, so i enjoyed it, a pity the conditions and refereeing turned it into a dour slugfest.

Eastwood most weeks have played open attacking footy, sadly not today.

Grant has speed and size, but I still maintain it will take him some time to make the grade, if at all. Could be signing of the year, time will tell.

All of you sceptics & disbelievers will be eating your words next year!!!!!
John Grant is "the real deal"!!!!
Also u read it here first-"Tom Humble Tigers next 1st grade Halfback in 2012!!!!!
