Wests Tigers Statement...Mayer Resigns

If a CEO resigns on their own accord, they usually stay on until a replacement is found.

The fact it's effective immediately says to me he was punted.

An actual resignation? Or a resign or you're fired?

When was the last time you heard a high profile position being sacked?…They only get sacked if they perform a corporate crime or similar....he was sacked no doubt....The club has not performed off the field this year....Membership numbers stagnant; Corporate sponsorship non existent and prospects for the future bleak(if you don't count the Pizza Restaurant that no ones has ever heard of).... Office staff unhappy; no decision of our future training facilities;...and on and on.... we need to step up our CEO and whole off field structure...last year they did the Football side of things, this year they need to up the ante from the CEO down....

Yeah but why now? Why not at the end of the season?
Could he be going to Parramatta

Judging on Marina's statement, it certainly sounds like he was pushed. If that's the case, I'm happy. He obviously mustn't have been up to scratch.

The best thing is that it sounds like Phil Moss is a quality operator. It's good we have a suitable stand-in CEO for the moment so we can take our time with the search.

Where are the guys 'on the inside' always telling us how wonderful he is?
I say bring back Golden Boots! :master:

Maybe someone found the missing page from the Brian Smith report …

"Punt Mayer"

To me, it was inevitable.
Regardless of some "good" things he has done, rightly or not he was tarred with the brush of administrative ineptitude over the last few years ( contract overs, coach, Farah, Tedesco etc etc)
It was only a matter of when not if

Geez how old is Keith these days? Best in the business though!

Quite honestly worried about who will fill the void. Not many astute operators around at the minute and the ones that are around are already set up.

I wouldn't be too worried mate - the new Board are all smart operators with good business acumen and obviously with lots of corporate contacts.
They'll have a number of people in mind, I'm sure - and I have no doubt that the person they select will be top shelf.
I am really looking forward to a new CEO. I thought Mayer's performance last year was atrocious. The fact that he was kept on a leash this year was a welcome change.
Well done the Board!!!!

I reckon your spot on on all fronts.

If he has resigned he obviously doesn't (most likely didn't) care too much for Wests Tigers. If he was pushed all I can say that there is very little stability these days in rugby league management. Apart from this the most important thing is what is going to happen to our next/current CEO management - will it improve or continue to go downhill?

Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer resigns, effective immediately
Date June 15, 2015 - 4:25PM

Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer has resigned, effective immediately. The club's general manager of football operations, Phil Moss, will be acting CEO until a replacement is found.

Wests Tigers chair Marina Go said Mayer had been an asset to the joint-venture clubs for the last two years. "Wests Tigers would like to thank Grant for his diligence and dedication to the club," Go said. "We look to take the next step in our evolution and a fresh approach to take us to the next level as a professional, world-class sporting organisation. Wests Tigers is looking forward to achieving the goals that are critical for a successful future for the Club, both on-field and off-field."

Mayer is the second NRL CEO to part company with his club in as many days following the resignation of Parramatta's Scott Seward on Sunday. He had previously been the chief executive of Manly from 2006 until 2009 before taking on the role of commercial operations general manager with GWS Giants for three years. Mayer joined Wests Tigers in a similar position in October 2012 before being appointed as chief executive in July 2013 following the departure of Stephen Humphreys. His first involvement in the NRL was as events and operations manager with Canterbury from 1999 to 2005 - a role he left to become the founding chief executive of Super League's first French club, Catalans Dragons.

Just days ago, Mayer spoke confidently about the future of Wests Tigers after revelations that Balmain Leagues Club was on the verge of voluntary administration. "The emotion surrounding the recent Balmain Tigers Leagues Club issues has created increased concern and confusion amongst Wests Tigers Members, fans and corporate supporter base," Mayer said in a statement last Wednesday. "Put simply, there is no need for anyone from Wests Tigers point of view to be concerned. Wests Tigers have undergone a rigorous process with the NRL to secure the future of the club and would like to ease the concern of our extended family."

This is the best news in a long time. I'm sure the new board would have got rid of him in the last clean out but wanted him to stay to ease the transition. I said all along he wasn't the right man to take us forward and the board agrees. Let's hope we get someone more professional to take over as our CEO …. one who engages better with the fans in good times and bad. Someone who doesn't come out with such comments as last chance for Campbelltown etc. He should never have been signed by the old board in the first place. I have far greater confidence in the new board to appoint the right candidate. I will watch with great interest. The clean out we had to have has been completed .... Well done to Marina and her board.
