Wests Tigers Statement...Mayer Resigns

@Newtown said:
If he has resigned he obviously doesn't (most likely didn't) care too much for Wests Tigers. If he was pushed all I can say that there is very little stability these days in rugby league management. Apart from this the most important thing is what is going to happen to our nsext/current CEO management - will it improve or continue to go downhill?

Resigned these days , can also meanthat he was pushed to resign , or the full reasons will come out, resign and it will all go quietly.

Interesting to say the least. I met with Mayer earlier in the year, prior to the season commencing and he was very forthcoming with what the plans for the club were this year and which players had impressed during the pre-season etc.

Oh well, moving forward I hope the board selects the right candidate to take the club forward.

Mayer had been in the job for two years following his appointment in late 2013 and told The Daily Telegraph that it was time for him to go.

“We both realised the time was right,” Mayer said.

“I wish Wests Tigers well in the future.”

Mayer claimed he would like to remain involved in rugby league.

One source close to the club said: “The resignation was mutual. Grant did some great things at the club but he thought the time was right to move on.”

The Tigers issued a statment on Monday afternoon to announce the resignation.

Can't say I'm disappointed. The way he spat on ctown last yr showed how unprofessional he can be. It's one thing for a coach to be emotional and say things off the cuff, it's another for a CEO. And saying it when relations between both supporter bases is already as fragile as it is. We need someone with better understanding.

Everybody gets found out eventually and his time came as it has before. Manly , Cantebury GWS etc. he was the biggest fence sitter, brown nose in the club. Hopefully he can under deliver elsewhere

He's done a lot of good things. The club has become much more professional under him. I remember before him, there was a thread here everyday complaining about the Tigers admin team.

Idk how much he was involved in this but our corporate sponsors considering our off field failure have been really good- brydens, Rashays, bingo etc.

Definitely had issues with him too. All in all, if both parties decide that there is no point in being there then it's cya later, beaver (pun intended re his face)

Everyone just needs to calm down. I'm applying for the job.

Yes I'll need someone to shine my shoes

Shine Chris shine

So Robbie is now CEO and Captain

Does he get extra points on Fantasy League for that ??

Good riddance.

Never liked him and I don't think he has significantly improved us off the field.
- Membership numbers are still extremely poor.
- We don't attract big sponsors.
- Crowds are getting worse.

As has been said, he seemed to focused on keeping people happy in regards to unlicenced Best and Less merch having 33.33% of each colour and making sure that nobody wearing a Balmain Tigers or Western Suburbs jersey was featured in the NRL ad. The big issues.

I also did not agree with the direction he wanted to take the club in and plans he had shown.

Hopefully we now take someone on board who has some innovative and smart ideas in regards to membership, sponsors and corporates.

Don't worry about applying Chris,TT is on his way to Concord massive broom about to go through the place….
First I will start with a Royal Commission into this very forum...I think that some on here under assumed names are from within the WTs admin....eg GEO (GO) with an E in the middle...Willow (Kidwell) quiet yet vocal when needed...Happy Tiger(the NRL rep Greenberg)...Flip,Phil Moss(not seen but reputed to be very good at something)..
TITG,I reckon he is JT,(always taking the pressure off himself)...

TT is going to improve this club immensely, firstly I have to look after the members and their guests...next step raise revenue for the club by marketing it to be a family orientated club, children are our future...I will search for sponsors and deliver a prospectus on why they should pour money into our club and see that they get very well looked after for their efforts..

TT has plenty to do,however I hope G.Mayer can read this and take something out of it to his next job (if he gets one as CEO)...

I'm just crapping on as I thought I would throw some humour into our thread... :roll

I think we can fairly say that most people on this forum did not know Mayer personally, had limited knowledge of his day-to-day role and obligations, and can hardly judge from a professional standpoint how good he was at his job.

Not liking a bloke, or what he says, doesn't qualify.

Thanks for your service Grant and best of luck, looking forward to the new appointment with whatever money we can scratch together.

Top bit is very well said

I will judge him by the ultimate 'performance truth': results.

That said, I respect his effort and service. I have never doubted his commitment. I acknowledge his role was carried out in very difficult circumstances.

I still remember in 2013, Tim Simona was up for contract renewal and he tweeted 'so what does everybody think is a fair offer for a up and coming young center?' There were a few replies, one said 'about $200-$250k' and he wrote back, 'that's what I would have thought'

To me that's just about the most unprofessional thing you could ever do. He was obviously setting up for the whole 'we offered him a fair deal, but we went elsewhere. We aren't going to pay overs for players anymore'

Glad to see the back of him - we came within a whisker from losing teddy due to this dick head being so narrow minded…

He was good with retention though…we didn't lose anyone we wanted tbh

His lasting legacy will be the Grey alternative jersey he brought, until we change it next year.

I hope someone can confirm Jerry Seinfield is ok.
