Wests Tigers target Johnson - Widdop..

I hope we get Widdop, would be a great acquisition.

Widdop/Brooks in the halves complement eachother really well.

BREAKING NEWS!!
The Wests Tigers have offered Dragons player 5/8 Gareth Widdop a 3 year deal worth $2.6 million dollars, so thats around 860k a season.

Geez here we go again.. And 860k a season? Did we not offer something close to that for Moses?? As if this guy knows anyway..

Hope it happens though, all for having Widdop here - would be the ideal replacement.

Are we seriously going to value him at this ridiculous amount just because he is "in form"? Form is temporary. Remember how rubbish he was last year?

Given the cap is going up 30 percent thats prob about right

I wouldn't bank on that big an increase…Squads also go to 30 so it will be even more important to get the balance right...

I would pay it. Even if teddy and woods stay we have 1 mil from players at other clubs we are freeing up, + moses money + cap increase when compared to our current squad.

Another way of thinking of it is Moses + 100k. Moses might have more improvement in him, but on defence and kicking alone I think this is fair for all parties.

Not sure if those numbers are correct have no info on that offer but if that is the case I'd be disappointed if it was that high for Widdop. This is literally his first season shining (and in a contract year may I add) would rather offer Foran 950k and get him.

Fine with it. At 28 it makes sense that his current form is more of a permanent developmental improvement than temporary increase in form tbh.

Widdop is an intelligent lockin at this point in the signing season too because if we lose Tedesco we can play him at fullback and go after another half which is fine as there are more and better halves off contract than fullbacks.

They can offer Foran 950k as well can't they? They can offer Johnson $1M too, soon as one agrees the other offers are off the table.

Yeah I have to agree with you SG. Though I still believe Widdop is our best option at five eighth - not at that price! As for Foran, there is no way I would want the club to pay 950k for such a volatile player - he's liable to walk after just one season!

I think those days are well and truly past him. I'd have Foran first option Johnson second then Widdop as far as established halves off contract.

Analytically there's no better option then Foran on the market and his price tag justifies the figures.

Moses will be gone to Parra pastures by next week so I hope that Pascoe does not delay the signing of a competent five eight whoever it may be from either Johnson, Widdop or Foran.

With either Johnson or Widdop we would get a player whose maturity, goal and general field kicking is much superior to that which Moses' can provide.

I just hope we don't sign a 5/8 at the expense of strengthening the forward pack. Part of Widdop's resurgence has to do with the dominance the Dragons pack are laying up front, they're big, tough, no nonsense and giving him a platform to play off. We need that also if a new number 6 is going to carve up for us.

Well it becomes a matter of priorities.

The reason most of the big name players are available next year is because their managers were planning on them cashing in on the increased cap.

Any of the name players are going to do just that so if you want to play in that game you pay the piper.

Just asking the question.
…but, player managers can shop their clients to multiple clubs?
