Wests Tigers Team v Canberra Rd 1

Looks like the writing is on the wall for Mbye. Laurie gets first crack to make the number 1 his. With Douehi back in rnd 2 to move in to the 6 you would have to think Mbye to 14.

Mate , he can do some damage around tired defences , and be solid defensively in the halves , or even act as the 13/ link man role if we want to go small ball style . Mbye is going to be awesome in the 14 IMO. The team , with AD at 6 looks like everyone is where they’re supposed to be . We don’t have centres playing wing , 6 playing 1 or 9 , middles on the edge etc .

Man that offseason went fast.

I guess the lineup is pretty close to expected. Packer has been shown some confidence from Madge, hope he has a blinder this season.

Contract year,so it is possible he can go ok

Talau at 14 and Packer are bizarre inclusions.

Can't understand why Simpkin would be left out.

Mbye will shift to hooker if Liddle needs a breather
Talau will move to 5/8
And Packman provides experience or a coat hanger (if required)
Simples ?

I think I probably would have preferred to have Simpkin give Liddle a breather and Mbye stay at 6 the whole game. But i'm not at training every day so what the hell would I know.

Nah
Simpkin is still a bit of a nuffie at this stage imo
Especially going up against an experienced Canberra pack .

I'm a big fan of Simpkin. I think he's going to be something special and I think he's already good enough for NRL.

I like the kid as well but he needs blooding in Reggie’s first imo

That's why they included Joey

After the stint he's given this club, MOM for 26 weeks would still not be enough to extend.

I certainly dont want him here next year especially on the money he is on but he may try hard so he can get a contract elsewhere.Teams like Dragons/Dogs need forwards badly

Well, for all the Packer deniers, I guess it’s suck eggs and take your blinkers off?

These sort of posts are so juvenile.

Do you support the club or a few players?

I’m not the one who was denigrating one of our players.

Take your blinkers off.

Also, big congratulations to Laurie, Ofehangue, Roberts, Tamou, Utoikamanu. Tiger no. 237-241 respectively!

Hearing Talau will start at 6 Mbye to the bench as a utility.

I'd like to see that.

I know Talau has played 6 in lower grades, but has he done any training with the first grade squad at 6 in the off-season?

I like the team. Talau at 14 makes sense, can cover wing, centre, 5/8 and even play a bit in the middle if needed. Last year showed us you need a utility on the bench and this year it will be even more so.

Expecting Mbye to take that 14 spot once Doueihi is back and Musgrove to take Packers spot once he's not suspended

Interesting team.

Surprised by Talau's selection, but he covers a few positions, and could be dangerous late in the game.

My only concern is Liddle's ability to play 80 minutes. Don't think shuffling the team to give him a break would work.

Everything else makes sense. Mbye, Laurie etc.

If you start Talau at 6 then you can put Mbye on as liddle has a breather without too much fuss

Pretty much the team I expected. Next week, all things being equal, Doueihi to replace Mbye who reverts to the bench in place of Talau.

Even if talau kills it in the 14?

Would like to have seen Tuki in the team, but otherwise it looks pretty good to me.

Me too

Good team, happy with Talau getting the 14, think he should be in the team somewhere, Packer to make amends for his Canberra performance last year.
A bit of perspective for those disappointed that Simpkin has not be included in 21, have a look at the other side of the coin with Tom Starling not making the 17 for the milk. That kid played a good chunk of 2020 and I thought he was exceptional; good service, strong in defence and a very good support player, but still a young man with time on his side.
Simpkin put in some fantastic performances in the trials, but hooker is potentially the most physically demanding position on the field, give the kid time he will get his chances soon enough.
Bring on Sunday.

He is young, his time will come later this year as it will for others. You cant fit the entire squad into 21

Find it a bit interesting that Simpkin isn't in the 17, let alone the 21

maybe they want 80 min game time in Reggie's for him.

Simpkin is only young and whatever time he plays in seconds will be a springboard to a 1st grade spot in the very near future.
