Wests Tigers Team v Cronulla Rd 3

Wow. Far from expected line-up.
Im a fan of Clarke.
Not so sure about Seyfarth yet but excited to see more of him.
Cant wait to see what Grant gives our spine.

Am I crazy or arent either the wingers or centres swapped sides based on the jersey numbers announced?

No you crazy...

Ahh it’s nice to see this thread! Things are getting back to normal! How exciting 😉

Seyfarth and Clark getting the nod over Musgrove was a bit of a surprise to me - but maybe Madge rewarded the guys who worked hard over the break and came back firing. There still may be changes by game day, but I like the look of the side and can't wait until the game. I just hope that it doesn't take too long for this brand new spine to click.

I was wondering if Harry Grant could play 80 minutes. I guess Billy Walters on the bench answers that question.

It seems to me that Luke Garner is the luckiest player to survive the debacle against Newie. He finished last season very strongly, but he has been unimpressive in the first two games of this year.

Seems to me that Madge is emphasising defence with this team. Twal is a great choice at lock (and our best defender) and Rowdy and Clarke are workhorse defenders off the bench.

The inclusion of only one prop on the bench suggests that Madge is emphasising mobility as well as defence.

Personally, I’m surprised that Thompson and Musgrove missed out, but Madge is close to the players and he must have a great idea of who is ready to go.

who kicks AD ?
inhury to the backs Lawrence to centre ?

I think Benji has taken kicking roles. He was hitting them pretty nicely aswell

I think having Brooks back with help Garners game significantly

Twal as lock could work in the new format.
He is the best 1-1 defender we have and has a good motor for a big man.

ET is a hole but is also a large penalty risk with new rules as he is often 2-3rd person on a tackle.

Backline is interesting. Thomo must not of impressed over Jennings.

Great to see Mbye back lets hope he gets a good run. Having him on the same side as Garner I like especially for inside balls.

I think we have a very mobile forward pack. Looks like we want to run with speed, hit and turn to get Grant/Brooks/Benji/Noffa some space

I think you're right re ET. The referees used to call out ET a lot, as he is great at slowing down the play the ball, but the refs know it and watch out for him. Maybe it's too high a risk with the change in rules, at the moment, and Madge knowing this will take it easy playing ET for a few weeks.

Yeah, the bench looks just a bit too workmanlike for me, but Clark does defend well and I'm excited to see how Seyfarth goes. With the extra muscle on him, who knows, he may just offer a bit more punch through the middle, and he does have a good motor.

I just think back to Leichhardt last year, we well and truly lost the ruck against the Sharks and they do boast a solid pack again.

Benji is first choice - AD saying it last week during his writeup in the press

jennings is solid and strong good pick
i cant handle another pathetic defensive effort
think we are a prop short on bench

I think we are now a player short in the team.

Very hard to judge this team, the backs fairly obvious and the forwards totally not. E.g. MCK, hardly mentioned in this thread so far, was previously a go-to pick for bench and has been omitted. Also interesting that everyone's basically fit but it's not near the Rd 1 forward pack at all.

But who knows why changes until Madge speaks - maybe last round, maybe fitness, maybe offseason, maybe rule changes.

Totally conceivable that some blokes cannot train as well in ISO and some others might be self-train legends.

Also there may be some dudes truly short a gallop and Madge trying to give some cover with a more mobile / bigger engine pack. No trials and no reserves, there might be a lot of blokes blowing after 15 mins.

The reserves surprise me a bit ...not so much as they are there for cover as the starting 17 should play..... but having Eisenhuth and Reynolds there 2 blokes we are supposedly shipping off to the Warriors and Dogs doesn't make much sense when both Thompson and Taylor played in the 1st 2 games missing out all together...

The 17 isn't set in concrete just yet
There could be a late change or two
I like the 1 to 13
But at some stage this season I would like to see

14 Oliver Clark
15 Zane Musgrove
16 Alex Seyfarth
17 Michael Che-Kam

Let's not forget Che-Kam can cover at Centre
Mbye can cover in the Halves and Hooker if needed
And this only needs to happen if we have an Injury
It would allow for a much stronger pack rotation giving the big guys more of a rest if required
It should be a quicker game and these guys will get tiered quicker
Just some thought
And I know Mbye is not a Hooker but he is good enough for cover

Thats a really good point. Maybe Madge is giving the younger ones some legs and will use a rotating process squad wise.
