How come nobody mentions Simpkin let the first try in and missed a number of tackles w hile Liddle had a good game in reggies .Is Simkin the latest favourite.

Simpkin didn't miss the first tackle try, Musgrove did (Twal was secondary). You are thinking of the 3rd try, but even that one I wouldn't entirely pin on Simpkin, because Turbo runs away from him and Mbye fails to cover to his outside as Turbo veers away from Simpkin.

Liddle is a decent player but he wasn't setting the world on fire his first 5 matches 2021, and Simpkin was good against Souths.

Thought Doueihi was the number one offender for the first try. Utterly lazy, as was Musgrove for the next try.

Doueihi definitely was at fault for the Foran try

I saw it that way live and have just checked again to make sure my eyes didn't deceive me. Adam was that lazy that even Talau gave him a gobful for his lack of effort.

Douhie needs to get better in defence. Laurie needs to get better in defence. The whole team does.when a defensive coach like madge can’t get his team to defend better then something smells fishy. You would half put up with our terrible attacking play if we were defending like our lives depended on it. But we all know how that’s going.

Shocking mate looks like the coach is picking players that back him first.

Doueihi quite simply is just not good enough.

And yet the forum praised him and said he was what was needed in the 5/8 position this year...

He's been one of our best all season and we should give up on him because of a game we got flogged by 40

I know people are frustrated but some of these knee jerk over the top reactions are crazy. Doueihi has his issues but he's one of the last to be worrying about.

He has a proven track record of not defending and we are 1 in 6. Why persist. Benji should never have been dropped for him just because of his relationship with the coach. I don’t mind madge but it’s been another bad decision benji a better leader too

He's barely defended in the front line in the NRL, give him time. He's got a proven track record of being our best playmaker this year too... he's had more good games than bad. Can't say that for majority of our team!

Benjis defence is worse and he would block pathways for younger players. Him being here would make no sense at all, be rational.

Perhaps take your own advice I’d love to be wrong about doueihi but just don’t see it.

The team shows how slim pickings we have in the backs.

Tawl at prop big yes - should always play there he has never been a lock.

Joe isn’t a backrower, maybe a roving lock role could suit. He is actually one player trying week in week out.

Seyfarth on the bench is stupid. He is not an impact or hold player. Swap him for Amone and Liddle for Mbye and will be happy with the bench.

we can't carry Liddle and Simpkin in 17
hopefully next year Hastings or Brooks takes the Mmbye role

I think adding Liddle to the team would really lift our attacking options. Thought he only needed a bit of a spell tbh but in a shared role he's always been great due to his agility. It's also great to use as an additional playmaker with some experience.

if we dont move Brooks or Mmbye on next year with Hastings joining us I don't see a dual hooker role working, simpkin plays 80 mins.
if we dont have Brooks or mmbye then maybe Liddle on the bench could work as Hastings would then play 7. if Hastings plays 13 then we need a backrower on the bench that can cover centre if needed

I understand but with no disrespect you're talking about next year or something that doesn't benefit the team's productivity for this year.
You've mentioned Brooks and for the same reasons you've stated, this is why having someone like Jacob in the team increases our attacking options and somewhat relieves some of the pressure for our halves. He's already played alongside Brooks and has that combination in place and I don't think it sets Simpkin's development back but rather will only assist it.
Liddle is very sharp and it could be a real asset for us during the middle part of the game.

I see simpkin is about to be extended to 2024 I don't think Liddle will be here next year.
if Lidde does move on then no point playing him this season is just about done anyway, may aswell play Mmbye and hope someone buys him

I think we still need Liddle but he is within his rights to leve if he sees fit
Hopefully he repays us a year or two
If he ends up going to the dogs, it is another piece to their puzzle
If they land say a Mikaele and Finucane then they start to look dangerous
Especially if the Naden Rumours are true

do you think finucane will leave storm isn't he co captain, if he does want to come to Sydney then we should throw plenty at him

That's the million $ ?
If storm cand find a replacement then I think he will leave
He is off contract
If Melbourne wanted to keep him he would have re signed
I'm not sure why he hasn't
Could it be cap trouble ?
Finucane is a great player
Better than any of our forwards
A good tuff solid hard worker and he is consistent
Signing proven players from the Melbourne system would be a smart thing to do

Finucane is a leader you can build a whole club around. Whatever he is being offered in the market as $200k on top, give him the captaincy and a 5 year deal if need be.

Agree, but we all know Melbourne don’t loose players they want.

Not to clubs like us anyway.

Laurie needs to pick up his running game too because cini is doing a much better job in that department . But again another player the coach won’t give a go

Yeah, just watched that period again and it only looked worse second time around, with me thinking that maybe @cochise was right all along.

The guy that I expected to shine at six that got a result from one spiral bomb.

Benji was about himself and self preservation...we are far better off with a young AD who shows promise and leadership...Benji is only doing well in a star studed team playing a completely different role to what he was here ....his defense is atrocious but has the players around him to cover his arse and the coach as well...

It’s about getting wins on the board. Both have defensive issues in this team but benji has more confidence to be a leader in this team doueihi quite as a mouse and wants to cry most of the time.

Forget benji then and bring in madden. Madge team selections will be the end of him. I’ve said this for a while. Can’t be too loyal in his job.

Ihave 2 answers to your statement Tony...

Firstly Benji for all the praise and glory you give him didnt lead us to any finals this last few seasons....so much for leadership ....

secondly you and others cant wait to bring on Madden and others to throw them to the lions at NRL level, dont you think Madge is keeping an eye on their performances?..While we are at it..when I played a fair while ago,and it still is a tough hard game,we had a couple of sensational u/18 players who were very good1 was a centre and 1 was a fb...they were given a chance in fg because of injuries, they were thrown in against the undefeated team at the time and got absolutely hammered...what happened after that ? they went back to u/18 and were never the same players again, the centre ended up giving the game away and the fb became a druggo with no will to play again...so spare me the young guys need a shot...Madge and his staff will give them a go when they are READY......

I thought he was very good against Souths. He is developing ok at 6, his style just doesn't lend itself to a nice fluid backline. I still think he is a centre that is trying to transition to 5/8th, still a work in progress.

I’m leaning that way ...

Didn’t he kill Qld cup at age 17-18?
Must admit I haven’t actually watched much reserves but his stats are solid, scores tries and sets them up regularly?
Debuted in 1st’s against a top 4 side and topped the tackle count, brought his middles onto the ball and gave solid service for 80+mins, and most importantly wasn’t out of his depth at any point.
Even when he was tagged by Sua he bounced straight up unaffected.
The kids 19.
Were you expecting a length of the field try?

The thing that I don't get about the truckloads of Simpkin praise is that it's based on no data to judge him on.

He's had a handfull of good but not great Reserve grade games (I've actually watched every game) followed by an average performance and a poor performance in the NRL.

So what exactly are the gushing over the top assessments of his ability based on?

It can't be his second tier performances because any objective observer would say that Liddle's domination of that competition is undeniable, yet his performances have been dismissed.

The only possible answer is that nobody really knows at this stage what the future holds for him.

Completely agree. He appears slow like the rest of our team, bordering plodderish like his mate Talau

Is anyone actually going to watch the game?

I'm not really interested to be honest. Defence has been terrible yes but watching our attack is just painful. Last five years Al we can do is kick a bomb from 40-50 metres out then hope for the best. No structure or ideas.

Would be nice if we could look at least half decent in attack.

He'll need at least a month. He has played so little football over the past 18 months his match fitness and timing will take a few weeks at a minimum.
