Wests Tigers to Liverpool’s Carnes Hill ...

Statement on Centre of Excellence

Wests Tigers Media
Wed 29th July, 12:57PM

Over the last six months Wests Tigers Members and stakeholders have been kept up to date with Club plans to develop a Centre of Excellence.

The Club has gone through an exhaustive process to determine a site, funding model and course of action that is in the best interest of the long-term future of Wests Tigers.

As Wests Tigers Members were informed through a recent Q&A with Chair Marina Go the Club has a shortlist of two Councils from an original group of six.

The Club is currently working on the funding model for the Centre of Excellence with a final decision to be made once that has been completed.

As the decision is based on funding from a range of sources, the timeframe for an announcement on a final location is still to be determined.

So my team is finding a new home which will be even further away from me?

Sad.

Have to laugh Campbelltown has never embraced the Magpies or Weststigers ever , I should know went there from the first game played by the Magpies way back then…

Wow, quick someone give this guy a medal. Judging an area on something that happened 30 yrs ago lmao

**Outrage as Wests Tigers ignore Campbelltown (again)**

It seems Jim Marsden, Scott Morris, Paul Lake and Russell Matheson are all up in arms about the decision.

Meh
Livvo…Cambo...same s*** to me

All Cambo people ever seem to do is whinge and moan...fair dinkum its a bloody welfare attitude there...poor us, never bloody happy

Yep, very much a sense of entitlement attitude, rather than what is best for the club.

Yep, i dislike the Me, Me , Me, Mine attitude. They say this will be the wrong outcome for
the WT.
Sometimes the so called "WRONG " outcome is the right thing to happen imo. :sign:

Two council areas out of six, still being considered. One is Liverpool, is Campbelltown the other one? Seems the DT is way ahead of what the club is willing to reveal.

They've gone off a direct quote from the chairperson.

word of caution for marina go … the mayor of liverpool makes many promises to many community groups and those who are potential voters as he manouvres for a state seat. his ' golden ' vision for liverpool is lacking in one unspoken item ... where is the money coming from ned ?
not too sure which is the other local govt area ms go is talking about, but it may all turn to crap anyway if council amalgamations happen after the ipart report is delivered in october. presently the state govt is recommending that liverpool and fairfield council amalgamate subject to the ipart report. then what happens to funding and grants ? no one knows.

hasten slowly marina and the weststigers board.

So there you go 30 years expierince of witnessing Campbelltown crowds continuously coming from the inner west so yes I do deserve a medal ..sorry mate this area is a waste land for the 2 clubs that have tried ,sad really as the complex is not to bad . I am sure they will keep trying flogging the dead horse and the Magpie fanatics can get into the Faces of the Tigers supporters just to remind them they are not wanted in the area!

I suppose you've done some sort of survey to support this seeing as you seem to be posting this like its fact

I agree TM. They seem to forget a few facts

1) Campbelltown Leagues is no longer a WT board member. So the region hasn't supported the Tigers there.
2) Cambo crowd numbers haven't been at levels where WT would want to jump into the region (nor has leichhardt)
3) They aren't the only club in this JV, as much as it sounds like they think they are
4) With the above point, this is a neutral territory in between both areas.
5) It obvious that Liverpool probably have their act together more than Cambo to be able to steal the Tigers away from one of their areas.
6) Newtown and the Magpies before the merge were never successful in the area.

I think we can safely see from the reactions on here that Marina has the right direction. Now to make us profitable by moving nearly all games to Homebush (except maybe 1 or 2 for each heritage ground)

It is certainly promising news that something might finally be being close to settled in relation to this, however I have concerns about the direction this could lead us to. I think the board has clearly chosen the south-west over the inner-west, and while many people will argue it is the growth region of Sydney, I believe the decision is misguided.

First of all, the lack of infrastructure around the proposed site would make it extremely difficult for anyone who doesn't drive to get there (I'm thinking with regard to juniors here). A quick search shows me it would be approximately a 2hr one-way trip to get to the site from the City via public transport, and about an hour minimum in peak hour traffic driving. This more or less freezes out half of the junior base (the half which has produced our two halves & two state of origin players) & simply returns the favour for the difficulties which our Wests juniors have suffered at Concord (which is undoubtedly easier to get to). The reality is that these juniors will not be impressed with the travel, and teams like Parra & the Bulldogs will snap them up.

Along these same lines, the idea that the Wests Junior League produce all out quality juniors is also misguided. This has been a growing region for a long time, yet the quality juniors we have produced have come about 50/50 between the two sides of the joint venture. It would be silly to freeze out one side.

Secondly, I think that the argument about fans & sponsors is VERY misguided. The rugby league fans who are moving into the South West already have a team they are attached to, so it would take generations & generations to maybe get these fans (as you would assume they would follow their parents), and this relies on us being a team who is consistently successful. It is the same thing holding the central coast back in its bid for their own team. The massive amount of sponsors in the area is a fallacy as well. How many of our current big money sponsors are from this area? Meriton? Brydens? X Cast? Rashays? People will bash this comment, but the reality is the big money sponsors WT have had come from the inner-west and the Balmain side of the JV.

Finally, when it comes to elite recruitment I think this is a poor decision. While the facilities might be first class, by placing ourselves solely in a position in the south-west, we risk becoming like Penrith where we have to pay significant overs to sign elite players as they are required to move & live away from the metro area. If we were chasing someone like JT, SBW or Sam Burgess, they could previously have sold waterfront in the inner-west, now will have to sell suburban western Sydney. As poor of a reflection on society that it is, it's a reality that the inner-west is a significantly more attractive option for living for big money footballers than the outer suburbs are.

I hope we get the best facility possible, but by ruling out options closer to the city I believe the club has taken a significant risk.

Brendan Rodgers and the Kop won't be happy if we move the WT's to Liverpool

Do we need to sing " You'll Never Walk Alone " at the start of every game

Where is Carnes Hill exactly yes stupid question but by the way some are suggesting it is the middle of nowhere?

I hope it goes better than the Bulldogs/Liverpool Council plans for a stadium in the 1990s.

And, as a resident and rate payer of Liverpool, I am interested to see Cr Mannoun actually say something I agree with. A rare event, indeed.

But he is from the Liberal Party….so what can one expect? Apart from dubious dealings and deception.

This has been under way long before marina and team arrived

That may well be …. But I seriously doubt the previous administration could have made it a reality.
The more I see of Marina Go the more I'm convinced that finally we can have confidence in the people running the club. At last we have people who can take us forward.

Fairdinkum
An article gets written about the Wests Tigers, a Lawyer, a Mayor, a Federal Liberal MP and a fanatic (had to throw him in) disagree with it and suddenly its all the whinging welfare bludgers with bad attitudes from Campbelltown that gets the blame.
Some people just can't help themselves.

loooooongg way to go still

seems the step in the right direction. leppington, edmondson park, camden area.. one of the most developing areas.

carnes hill is actually in a great spot.. M7 (good for northern people from M2), M5 (good for people coming from city), new airport being built 20 mins down- great location all round.

sucks for people from inner west though but srsly there is no space in the inner west or close to it.

in saying that though, i disagree that we need another home ground.. we got anz, campbo, leichardt and potentially this in carnes hill.. too much already. pick one and stick with it.
my money's on us sharing pirtek with parra, wsw and apparently doggies are interested as well.
