Wests Tigers v Manly TRIAL ..*Spoilers

Waking back from the game now. Was impressed with the forward pack in both stints, feel we have depth there this year which will help. The backs looked sharp and played off the momentum well. Good to see Brooks take some control and the goal kicking. Really like Laurie in the 1, surely his locked in for round 1 with Talau in the 6.

Lucy, AD, Stefano, Laurie, Roberts all standouts. Very impressive performance overall.

Simpkin much better than Liddle imo.

Don’t know about that, Liddell played first up when everyone was fresh, but not arguing that Simpkin didn’t play well.

It's a great problem to have, I think both played pretty well. Liddle for 9 and Simpkins 14 for me. Dummy half running is both of their strengths, so if we can rotate them correctly, keeping them fresh - they should keep the opposition on edge all game.

I disagree ...if we don't need a hooker on the bench ....we go with 4 forwards

That middle of the ruck has to hold up ...that is more important than anything else based on the last 10 weeks of footy from 2020

The thing I like the most is how fit we looked.our forwards were hungry and fighting for meters
One thing I noticed early is how quick Joffa and Tamou play the ball,hopefully all our young forwards are taking notes.
Tuki Simpkins impressive again also.
Love the fact he did the whole big run up off the kickoff ,even if he got jammed 😂

Also Stefano is going to be our Petro 🔥

Only watched the first half

- defence looked solid for a first hit out. Forwards came up in a good line.
- Laurie has a good footy brain and quick.
- Brooks played and kicked well.
- liked our two bookends (Tamou and Joffa)
- Lucy is great to watch and very busy.

footwork at the line.

All our forwards incl LL, Twal and Garner were changing direction and getting 1 on 1 at the line.

Really enjoyed watching the game today.

Both hookers were great; probing, quick and good service. I'm having trouble seeing how one is significantly better than the other - I'm thankful we have them both.

I was impressed with most of the new signings; JTJ, Tamou, Stefano, Joffo, Laurie, Tui and Tuki. Garner impressed me in the first half - was solid in defence and ran hard.

Packer looks as fit as I've ever seen him. I'm not sure where he fits in but if he can do a job when needed I'm OK with him being here.

Talua and AJ were fine and Nofo played his normal strong role. Doueihi and Brooks looked dangerous every play and the kicking had me genuinely impressed. Madden didn't do anything wrong but was hardly noticeable. LL CoolJ was awesome.

Given we still have BJ, Blore and Musgrove to add it was a solid performance - but I'm ever mindful it was a trial and probably not a real indicator for the season proper.

I can't finish without saying Aloiai looks like he's eaten a sheep. I understand it's hard to maintain fitness coming off a long term injury but he looked positively flabby. He was overshadowed by our young guys.

We’re coming back WM 16 BW 28 conversion unsuccessful

Is Simona playing ?

I hear he is. But I haven’t arrived so can’t tell you anymore than that

He did play. Got penalised for trying to kick a Magpies player in the head when he was on the ground.

I thought Liddle looked good, but for all this talk on here about his service being top class he threw quite a few shaky ones. Needs to back himself **running the footy a little more** but again, I thought he looked good and probably will start at hooker.

I think that running will come naturally once the consistent forward momentum is built and thought that Simpkin adjusted his game more toward that today as well. Basic go forward base and then expand from there as opportunities are opened.

Really enjoyed watching brooks playing as first receiver all over the field and just playing simple footy. Didn't look like a headless chook, just stuck to the gameplan and gave the strike weapons early ball.

Think it's the best way for him to play - happy to see a good short kick to set up Roberts and good backup work with Luc. It's all he needs to do, doesn't need to over complicate it

I'm just glad there's no Benji. He can run his own show.

I agree about benji ..but then you could say the same thing with Brooks over Madden

Lets see what happens when both Douehi and Brooks play together

Very promising today though

I don't think a few understood a comment I made during the game ...I think either AJ or Talau would look better outside JTJ then Nofa would ...you can switch Nofa ..but based on what I saw today JTJ is going to create a hell of a lot of chances for a traditional winger .....Nofa isn't traditional and isn't as quick

Had to have a bit of a laugh during the live stream.

At about the 60 minute mark one of the commentators was making a remark about Leichhardt Oval and said that it was a fast track.

Moments later you could hear the crowd booing as Josh Aloiai was substituted and came from the field.

The offloads.
Support play, inside and out.
Genuine speed.
Goalkicking.
Daine Laurie.
The diverse variety of try scoring methods.
Our 2 x 9s.
Luciano ti voglio bene.
Yes, it's only a trial, but that's what I likey likey.

My key takeaways from today...

Laurie to either play 1 or 6 in round 1 but either way he's FG material;
Madden needs more time in NSW Cup;
AD has a very good passing game and a spiral bomb which would make Pat Richards proud;
Starting forward pack were very good, Lucy was unstoppable and looks fit and hungry;
JTJ will be a great asset;
Tuki Simpkins and Tuilagi should be upgraded to the top 30;
Liddle and Simpkins both looked very good and are sharp out of dummyhalf - win/win situation for me;
Brooks looks to be a different player without Benji and was effective probing both sides of the field and his goalkicking was good too;
Starting left winger could well be AJ with Talau playing NSW Cup.

Tuki is already top 30. Agree on Tuilagi though.

I hope everyone saw Twal doing some ball playing and using footwork today!

Did he even play ?

Tuilagi looks awesome..big, fast and mobile

IMO Laurie has earned FB long term, forget Mbye.. (unless injured) Speed is the real deal. He was half harded all of last season. Hopefully a QLD team pick him up early than expected

But hold on happy, shouldn't the halfback be able to overrule the call from the 5/8? Madden was playing as the 5/8 not the half.

Also, isn't Nofa one of the quickest off the mark? but I am going to be honest... I haven't seen him run fast long distance.
