Rd 1 Mbye at 6 ......better defensive player and will handle the increased defensive work load ....Laurie at 1 more room to use his speed and agility ......another no brainer really

Yeah at this point I don't see Laurie as a 5/8th, but think he is probably our best fullback.

I watched Laurie following Lucy all day today and that combination is going to score thousands. His go is to always be close to the ball and take advantage of offloads, even that quick play the ball when he scored. He's always close enough to be involved so he needs that roving fullback role rather than be slotted at 5/8.

Lucy was huge today, he could be one of the better second rowers in the game by season end.

For mine the most pleasing thing about today was the depth we now look to have, not just depth but good quality
replacements first time for a long time

At one point there our B team looked like the Harlem globetrotters

I have him tipped to be an origin bolter. The only thing stopping him is Freddy's hatred for the tigers

Just back from the game and must say I am very impressed, high quality effort from the boys today against a lower quality team.

I think Laurie looked amazing today at Fullback and feel that role suits him much better than the 5/8th role. He is very elusive and looks dangerous every time he gets his hands on the ball, he chimes in so well on sweeping backline plays.

Roberts looks dangerous when ever the ball his in hands and it was very reassuring to see him getting early ball in space.

The 5/8th spot is really now the most difficult decision for me, Madden was fantastic in the 1st half and compliments Luke Brooks so well, Doueihi than came on in the second half and really dominated. For me after being disappointed in Madden in last weeks game I probably have him just in front of Doueihi.

Probably the most pleasing aspect of today's game was the control Luke Brooks had over the side, I really like him playing both sides of the ruck and he was just in the right place taking the right options all the time.

Our front rowers were great, multiple times they were taking multiple hitups in a set. Both Joffa and Tamou played 27 mins straight to open the game. I was also very impressed with Stefano, he has lost some weight and it is evident in his game. I though Mikaele fought really hard to prove a point when he got on which was pleasing to see.

Luciano is about to go to another level, he was so damaging running the ball and it was so great to see him starting to look for the offload again, he is going to destroy some teams this year.

I have a lot more to say about this game but better leave it here for now.

Thanks for this @cochise, always great having someone there at the match.

What else did you see in person that we couldn’t really view at home?

Was Roberts just as quick as it shown on live TV?

Who had a loud voice on the field?

Did Tamou seem to fit the captaincy role well, on and off?

Also I seen @Everything-WT was also there, what were your thoughts?

Anyone else also in attendance? 🙂

Yeah was there.

Tamou was excellent as stated everywhere
Laurie very loud organising the defence. Unbelievably good player
JTJ is very very fast. Would love to see him in space. It felt like he was dangerous every time he got the ball. Will probably get targeted in defence though. Held his own. But we knwpew his defence is not why his there.
The high kicks to the corners were pretty average, both in placement and chase.
AJ didn’t look as fit as the others, but kept going
Packer was doing reverse decoy runs
Liddle was good. Crisp passes and picked his runs. Simpkin played better than last week
Miakele looked like he worked out he is massive and had better hands
Doueihi played well when he came on. Short balls, long balls, pretty much everything
Madden and Brooks were a good combo. Tough choices
We had options inside the 20
Brooks had a blinder in atk and def
Last 15-20 was basically a free for all with a million offloads - Tuki seemed to get them from nowhere.

We looks vulnerable in the centres in defence. Hit hard everywhere else all game

Manly were atrocious, no attack, no organisation and seemed to give up. Forwards were well beaten Schuster can play. Des has his work cut out if he can’t sort his forwards out. Foran/DCE/trbox2 should fix come of that..

amone was getting his press photos done

Douehi has to be the team after rd1 for mine and he looked very comfortable at 5/8

Luci and AD are the potential superstars this club needs. Brooks also classy. The whole pack looks hungry and fit. Weak opposition today and it’ll be much tougher in two weeks but good signs.

The forward pack wasnt weak. Apart from Jake T that was a full strength forward pack.

People are undervaluing our dominance through the middle today.

Forwards played well but it wasn’t the Raiders pack we’ll see down the Hume.

I was worried about him, some players have one flash year and then go backwards. I was worried that could be Lucy but boy did he show some great signs today. I think he will be a much more complete footballer this year.

This year with better support players he will flourish. Laurie sniffing around the ruck off a Lucy offload is a fantastic sight

If Mbye somehow gets the fullback positon over laurie im not gonna be happy

In round one (because AD is suspended), I would have Mbye at fullback and Laurie at 5/8.

Either way, Laurie will be in there.

Laurie at this stage is a much better fullback than 5/8th.

Agree I’d have Laurie at 1 and play Mbye at 6. Such a shame AD is suspended.

I'd personally play Madden. I am a Mbye fan but Madden and Laurie damaged his position in the side with great performances today.

You must have seen something I didn't, never really noticed Madden today. I'd have Mbye ahead of him on utility value and experience.

Did you see him off the ball? He's so enthusiastic, he's just driving everyone around him. He's one of our most valuable for sure.

He killed it last year getting very little good ball from brooks, seems like the strategy is to give him early ball so he should be even better

Agree I didn't really notice Madden out there much today. Brooks was awesome so was Tamou and Laurie.

The play that really typifies him to me was the Kepaoa try, he put Brooks away who ran 30 mtrs and took the tackle, Lucy was supporting on the right. When Brooks was tackled he rushed around to the left side of the ruck pulling the winger in and opening up the space for Talau to hit Asu in open space. Such an effort play that goes unnoticed.

Luke Garner has improved physically and defensively since last season. Put a number of Manly players on their back and made a number of good defensive reads. No one is talking about him. I think he will be a quiet achiever in 2021 and will do his job effectively.

He did a good job on Schuster a couple of times, and he was a class above the rest of the Manly players today.
