I'd personally play Madden. I am a Mbye fan but Madden and Laurie damaged his position in the side with great performances today.

Doueihi on the otherhand is more explosive and dominating player but I don't think he combines quite as well with Brooks and I still have concerns about him playing both sides of the field.

Luke Garner has improved physically and defensively since last season. Put a number of Manly players on their back and made a number of good defensive reads. No one is talking about him. I think he will be a quiet achiever in 2021 and will do his job effectively.

I think he gets replaced by Blore. He’s a very good footballer Garner runs great lines and has speed. He would be an ideal bench forward for us.

Just needs to play with more energy and cut out some lazy play. Seen him leave a tackle and retreat today and the manly bloke kept fighting, got an off load and then they made 30m. It’s an attitude issue IMO.

My top 5 take-aways from live viewing:

1. Brooks can definitely get the job done with a strong platform. Barely put a foot wrong and had time to develop his plays. I never knew he was a goal kicker, though he has some mad hook (L to R) on his kicks.

2. Luch was a monster, just unstoppable on left edge, offloading outside and in, cutting back across the play, going for an-old fashioned hitup. Manly's line speed was average and Leilua looked like a Harlem Globetrotter.

3. Doueihi should be the first-choice 5/8th. Madden was alright but he hasn't that next level of threat that Doueihi has. Even to the point where if he just decides to tuck it under his arm for a carry, he's tall and hard to bring down. HOWEVER some lingering concerns of the way he slots into the RHS defence.

4. Kelma Tuilagi impressed me greatly, what a unit. Effective in both hit-ups and wide-running. I'd dare say a few of these young blokes like Tuilagi, Simpkins, Stefano are pretty close to (or already have) over-taking the older brigade like Seyfarth, Garner, MCK, Mikaele.

5. Daine Laurie has obvious football class about him, just in the right place all the time, lovely soft hands. He's one of those footballers that seems to do the basics without breaking a sweat, so his energy can instead go into above-average football. I also love how comfortable he is at the back handling the football.

Bearing all this in mind, Manly were absolutely horrible and let us get on the front foot all match. Maybe we were just too strong and fast, but we had an enormous platform no matter which forwards rotation we used and it was a carve-up whenever we shifted the football. It may have been a very different story if Manly played all their best players, who may have put more starch into the defence and done more with the early attacking football they had. Credit to the boys however, you can only play what is in front of you.

I have likened him to Wighton, he might actually end up better. One on one he is going to be an absolute handful. Ask Ben Turbo.

I would have liked to see Doueihi get more time with Brooks to see more of their combination. My main concern is Madden allows Brooks to play both sides of the ruck, which I think is better for Brooks, and all Doueihi's playmaking was down the right.

I would have liked to see Doueihi get more time with Brooks to see more of their combination. My main concern is Madden allows Brooks to play both sides of the ruck, which I think is better for Brooks, and all Doueihi's playmaking was down the right.

They've trained together all off-season and Brooks has been pretty vocal about playing both sides this season - they'll be fine.

This is the part I'm liking - Good solid front row and middle starting combo, then you've got more size and aggression coming at you with Stefano, Musgrove, Mikaele...

Joffa was fantastic, a couple of sets he had multiple hitups in the set. He was absolutely dripping in sweat when he came off the field

I don't think many people agree with you. Madden is a halfback and in my opinion a long, long way behind Brooks or Doueihi. If Brooks was unavailable due to suspension or injury, Madden and Mbye would be the options for a backup halfback

He might have looked better, but he didn't play better.

I don't think many people agree with you. Madden is a halfback and in my opinion a long, long way behind Brooks or Doueihi. If Brooks was unavailable due to suspension or injury, Madden and Mbye would be the options for a backup halfback

Yeah I'm ok with people not agreeing with me lol. I think my posts sometimes come across as being overly hard on Doueihi, which isn't my intention as I really like him as a footballer and the 2 games I have seen him at 5/8th have been very very impressive. He was great today, I just really liked how Brooks played with Madden playing outside him.
