Liddle gets the 9 jumper, Mbye the 1. They're incumbents.

Simpkin looks good for his age, reminds me of Harry Grant finding his feet in firsts with Storm a couple of season's back. No harm in him playing CC for most of the season. He'll get his shot for sure. Liddle has looked more assured in the trials and is more of an NRL player at this stage.

If Laurie is so good at back I think it'll allow the Tigers to shop Mbye more aggressively as it seems he isn't in our long-term plans. But Mbye will be around our team this year as the 1 I think Laurie may be a bit of a utility as he can play a few backline positions.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to pick the best 17 available? Laurie was terrific yesterday, it would be a mistake not having him starting at 1 imo.

If only it was the completion of round 1..

February Premiers.

Unbelievable, we've been screaming out for an attacking fulback forever. Now we have one, and some people don;t want to play him. The same people said Simpkin,Tuki, and Madden won't be ready this year,to young etc,,Blah-Blah-Blah.

Laurie looks the goods to me. Barking to the defensive line, and I even noticed him talking to the ref after a play. Seems like a leader in the making to me.

Correction. Some people are saying do not play him in fb for Round 1 to give mbye a shot. That's all. We all forget Daine joined us 2 weeks ago and didn't go through the bonding sessions together that these guys did.

We may need mbye's best at some point.

Round 2 is a different story....

Yeah for someone fairly new to the club he’s very vocal. No doubt having some of his old Penrith team mates helped him transition comfortably

Well our first five rounds results will be the real test for the boys.
I wish them well no matter who the starting 17 take the field over that first month of footy.
No easy task in front of them but 2-3 wins will do me.

When players are on their toes, create zip & throw the ball around, not only it makes it more entertaining, it makes set plays happen and creates opportunities

The spine decisions are obviously the contentious ones. Ill leave it to Maguire.

My only wish would be Tuki Simpkins in the 17. Love this guy. Seen him live last week and he has the skills, leg drive and motor to play very well at this level.

I agree 100% and to think that the Cowboys swapped him for Kane Bradley!!

I'd give benefit of the doubt to incumbents if we'd made the finals in the last 10 years. But we haven't.

Liddle will start at 9 but Mbye has no business being in the team after both his performances in the past and the way players played yesterday.

He can cover for injuries and no more

On another note regarding Garner, he broke the line and stood in a tackle looking both sides for an offload. Had someone been in support they would have scored and it would have been one of the plays of the day.

I think he looked better in D but needs to get more aggressive. His attack however is superb

**Manly Sea Eagles**
**Result: defeated 52-10 by the Tigers**

Who fired: Kieran Foran is expected to get first nod for the No. 6 jersey but Josh Schuster banged the door down with his performance in a heavily defeated side against the Tigers. The young towering playmaker plays with maturity beyond his years, throwing himself into the line and aiming up in defence. The youngster was rewarded with a tidy try at the end of the match.

Who didn't: Josh Aloiai had a big opportunity to put his former side on notice following his ugly exit over the off-season but failed to do so. Brought in as a direct replacement for Addin Fonua-Blake, **Aloiai had zero impact for Des Hasler's side off the bench.**

Lucy, AD, Stefano, Laurie, Roberts all standouts. Very impressive performance overall.

Simpkin much better than Liddle imo.

Simpkin much better? They both went well, but Liddle far more crisp and explosive IMO - and against fresher players.

I didn't see anything explosive about him today. Looked very hesitant to run the footy, couple times he got to the line and then decided to pass backwards to someone else.

Both guys did well though and both will be in our team throughout the season

You must have missed the dart out of DH when he split the defence with his speed off the mark and gained 20 mtrs - - it was only an ankle tap that stopped him going all the way. That looked pretty explosive.

It was very explosive - dynamite like!

You could be right about Mbye or Madge may have a far better observation than most of us...Laurie did play well up against a much inferior Manly side...Rd 1 against the Raiders wont be any easy task, however Madge will select the team he thinks will be the best..
Mbye wont have the pressure of captaincy and will be over his injuries from last year,he also has been very good during preseason at fullback...we will have to wait and see...

Manly fielded an ordinary squad, the only acceptable response from us wasn't just to beat them, but to make it look like FG vs reserves.

Brooks, Doueihi and Laurie toyed with them. Our pack was 100 times better. The positives have been well covered.

I would still like to see better commitment in defence, in general play and against kicks. We looked OK for large parts in this regard but given the quality (or lack thereof), the nature of their tries concerned me.

Anyway, I'm sure the coaching staff have seen that and more. Now I just need something to do for 2 weeks.

Mbye might be over his injuries from last year TT but he didn’t play because of this years injury
