Wests Tigers v Manly TRIAL ..*Spoilers

Tamou was impressive in his first game for the club,a real leader who never gives up at both ends of the field,I thought Garner played well and defended well,Laurie and Luciano outstanding,Laurie needs to be FB round 1. Think Madge will go with Madden at 6 round 1. Agree Tuilagi should be upgraded to top 30

If I had to fault Tamou, he was involved in a number of those dancing type tackles from which Manly got away very late offloads.

So I’m late to this tonight and have nothing to add that hasn’t already been posted. Suffice to say I am extremely excited about our prospects for this year. Manly were weak but we were ruthless. And I saw a team all playing for each other and their coach. Very obvious.
My caution is that the positive bond in existence after a good trial performance has to be maintained when we are put to the test. From what I saw up close today, I reckon this squad could achieve this.

I watched the spotlight Seibold done on a few key players from some clubs and for us it was Tamou. He highlighted the fact when he got tackled he found his front and got quick play the balls. I watched that part of his game closely and yep most of the time he found his front and had a lightning play the ball.
The other fact Seibold brought up was his clearly evident leadership, I noticed most of our middles in the main doing the same thing. Tamou we can already tell is a stellar leader and with that he leads by example I think it’s clear the players care following him.
That really stuck with me in today’s game, as a whole we played well we finally have depth and competition for spots, I’m excited for what’s to come. Yes it was a trial yes we had by far the superior team but you can only play what’s in front of you we lose games like that in the past bring on round 1.

Going off what I've seen and heard, Tuki might be our Tino or Riki. I love his energy. Someone mentioned he was quite an up-right runner for a Union lad, but don't forget the try in the 1st trial...a typical pick and drive.
Heard a podcast some plebs (1 was a Silvertails supporter) put out last week, and said Silvertail pleb was creaming his pants over Mikaele. In previous seasons we've seen his potential, but he's really showing what he can do when he's fully fit, and justifies all the pants-creaming by pleb silvertail.
I have faith in Madge and wouldn't mind him pacing the younger forwards. We all know it's a long season with plenty of bumps and bruises, and front-row is a tough position to play and they tend to hit their straps a bit later, but with our depth we should be able to preserve their health and keep them fighting-fit and hungry for every inch, every set of six, every 80mins week-in & week-out until we rightfully take our place in the top 8 come Sept.
By all accounts, Doueihi will be playing 5/8th this year and Laurie F/B, so it makes sense that Laurie lines up at F/B for Rd1.
Though I've gotta say Loz reminds me of Luai. He plays with alot of energy, has quick hands and fast feet and puts defences in 2 minds.
I wouldn't complain if he wore the 6 for Rd1.
Either way, he's a bloody good pick-up.
Tommy T's pass for the try on the left side was impressive, and the first time I've seen him display any of his junior 5/8 skills in a live scenario. I know it's only one play, but maybe it's an indication he has more strings to his bow than what we've seen so far.
Still think Moses is a solid player and will add to the team, but geez, where do you put him...centres if Joey's out injured.

Hey fellas I've been moving all weekend and haven't had a chance to read the thread properly or watch the game. I saw the score, were we that good or Manly that bad?

Manly were terrible, but we were very strong and played some good football.

Both ....we had heaps of ball (probably 70 % ) and Manly wouldn't have completed at 70 %

We had a few real standouts ......Laurie ,Tamou and Brooks was the kicker 5/6 ......when Douehi came on we hit another gear

All the forwards looked good ...damn good trial all in all

As for manly ...if they field that side for 25 rounds they'd be spoon favourites ...2 of their tries had question marks and the 3rd was from a horrible dropped bomb from Tyrone Roberts - ...he was probably the worst performed WT's player

He sure did. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and suggest he may have been looking straight into the sun. But there was no need to jump to take that catch and his over read of the play next tackle was a deadset bummer. He had to cover that hole. He didn't, & they score an embarrassingly easy try. I think the limited time he had maybe caused him to try too hard - over think things. Probably NRL career over. He looked pretty upset with himself after that miss.

When you look bad when everyone else looks good it just really stands out

Tyrones misread of the play may have looked worse also as the hole created was between him and you know who??? Big Russ. Haven't seen the replay, but I wonder if Russ was slow in shifting to his left.

Luke Garner has improved physically and defensively since last season. Put a number of Manly players on their back and made a number of good defensive reads. No one is talking about him. I think he will be a quiet achiever in 2021 and will do his job effectively.

Just needs to play with more energy and cut out some lazy play. Seen him leave a tackle and retreat today and the manly bloke kept fighting, got an off load and then they made 30m. It’s an attitude issue IMO.

I keep thinking I'm going crazy but finally someone has mentioned garners negatives. I feel like he doesn't do the 1%ers

Great performance against a side without their key match players. It was only a trial but you could not ask for more. The best thing from my point of view is that so many new players combined so well. This was my biggest worry, as its basically a new side. AD,- new to the role,Madden- very little football, the same with Simken, Laurie, and others all performed well, and will only get better. The side is far more settled then i expected at this stage. CONGRADULATIONS TO THE COACHING AND TRAINING STAFF, THEY HAVE DONE A SUPERB JOB.

I think Laurie looked amazing today at Fullback and feel that role suits him much better than the 5/8th role. He is very elusive and looks dangerous every time he gets his hands on the ball, he chimes in so well on sweeping backline plays.

More importantly for mine, he got across for the kick on the last that may have gone dead anyway, but he had made the tackle near the sideline on the other side of the field and still got the other side of the goalposts to defuse it if necessary.

The true effort plays that showed the competitor that Tamou and Maguire alluded to him being. As I have written before, he showed enough in his run on debut in the final round of 2020 to show that he belongs in the top grade and hope that he can stay there for at least the next three seasons.

He claimed the number 1 in my mind today.

Mbye deserves his chance given we have a spot for both in Week 1.

Laurie has to be in the 1 though

I don't agree mate. We know what he can do there now - but give Mbye a chance before he is relegated to #14 in Round 2. Laurie in 6.

Laurie hasn't been here all pre-season - would send a terrible message to the team for him to walk into fb on talent rather than hard work.

Mbye will be playing a lot of reserve grade this season .. DL owns the No1 , there are reasons the club has not played finals for a decade .Has anyone seen Mbye carve up like DL no contest !

Rd 1 Mbye at 6 ......better defensive player and will handle the increased defensive work load ....Laurie at 1 more room to use his speed and agility ......another no brainer really

I agree. If Laurie is going to be the Fullback for the season then don't chop and change him around, let him be Fullback from the get go. Mbye will handle the 5/8 position better and most likely end up as a bench utility anyway.
