Liddle gets the 9 jumper, Mbye the 1. They're incumbents.

Simpkin looks good for his age, reminds me of Harry Grant finding his feet in firsts with Storm a couple of season's back. No harm in him playing CC for most of the season. He'll get his shot for sure. Liddle has looked more assured in the trials and is more of an NRL player at this stage.

If Laurie is so good at back I think it'll allow the Tigers to shop Mbye more aggressively as it seems he isn't in our long-term plans. But Mbye will be around our team this year as the 1 I think Laurie may be a bit of a utility as he can play a few backline positions.

I'd give benefit of the doubt to incumbents if we'd made the finals in the last 10 years. But we haven't.

Liddle will start at 9 but Mbye has no business being in the team after both his performances in the past and the way players played yesterday.

He can cover for injuries and no more

So you'll just let 800k sit on the sidelines? Big risk. You can't ignore his cost, regardless of how well one player played for 40 minutes in a trial game against a 2/3 Manly team who are average anyway.

Just a question.

What has 800k got us for the past 2 years - I'll tell you as you seem unaware - not one game as good as Laurie's game against Manly.
I don't care if it was 2/3 a Manly team - at least he looked like a player, a player that wanted to be there, a player that looked for the ball.

Mbye is a dud, a very expensive dud, has always been a dud and always will be a dud.

Unfortunately as it stands, we will be paying for this dud again next year.

Just my opinion.

Russ, just what are you insinuating? ?
Speaking of overpaid duds.. did Josh Aloiai look fat in those colours. Or has he found an cushy job that pays well?

He did fortytwenty - I don't think it was the colours however.

It’s twenty forty mate. Anyway doesn’t matter, I was going to put on a few cold ones on at my place when one got kicked, but it’s not going to happen so I’ll be changing my name soon to reflect something more positive.

I’d say both ?

I honestly thought he looked like always does . An average first grade front rower . Not a 650k game changer . LOL Des ! For once trust your eyes mate , and not the stats . Josh isn’t elite ! Just like Tollman wasn’t !

And even if we accept this, he was by miles our most effective attacking forward, much much better than Messieurs Eisenhuth or Packer for instance!

Just back from the game and must say I am very impressed, high quality effort from the boys today against a lower quality team.

I think Laurie looked amazing today at Fullback and feel that role suits him much better than the 5/8th role. He is very elusive and looks dangerous every time he gets his hands on the ball, he chimes in so well on sweeping backline plays.

Roberts looks dangerous when ever the ball his in hands and it was very reassuring to see him getting early ball in space.

The 5/8th spot is really now the most difficult decision for me, Madden was fantastic in the 1st half and compliments Luke Brooks so well, Doueihi than came on in the second half and really dominated. For me after being disappointed in Madden in last weeks game I probably have him just in front of Doueihi.

Probably the most pleasing aspect of today's game was the control Luke Brooks had over the side, I really like him playing both sides of the ruck and he was just in the right place taking the right options all the time.

Our front rowers were great, multiple times they were taking multiple hitups in a set. Both Joffa and Tamou played 27 mins straight to open the game. I was also very impressed with Stefano, he has lost some weight and it is evident in his game. I though Mikaele fought really hard to prove a point when he got on which was pleasing to see.

Luciano is about to go to another level, he was so damaging running the ball and it was so great to see him starting to look for the offload again, he is going to destroy some teams this year.

I have a lot more to say about this game but better leave it here for now.

Thanks for this @cochise, always great having someone there at the match.

What else did you see in person that we couldn’t really view at home?

Was Roberts just as quick as it shown on live TV?

Who had a loud voice on the field?

Did Tamou seem to fit the captaincy role well, on and off?

Also I seen @Everything-WT was also there, what were your thoughts?

Anyone else also in attendance? 🙂

I was at the game thought Tamou was awesome led from the front. Laurie was a great spark and Lucy was very dangerous on the edges. Thought Liddle looked really good out there and Brooks led the team well around the park.
I was not sold on AJ on the wing and I couldn't see if Joey L got out there.
I'm excited for 2021

Joey has a foot injury and was walking around in a moon boot.

Cheers Cochise
Thought I saw you there about 4 rows from front in a gold UD trucks sponsored jersey I was up in the stands

Does it help though for your team to get smashed two weeks out from Rd 1, with players who may not taste much FG in 2021?

I would have thought, not being a head coach myself, that you want the final trial to be something as close to real conditions and real first-round situation as possible. For Des to rest so many players, doesn't make sense to me, especially because they only had 1 trial. Potentially 7 of the first 17 never played a trial this pre-season, yet Mad Des is potentially blowing out the cobwebs?

I watched the spotlight Seibold done on a few key players from some clubs and for us it was Tamou. He highlighted the fact when he got tackled he found his front and got quick play the balls. I watched that part of his game closely and yep most of the time he found his front and had a lightning play the ball.
The other fact Seibold brought up was his clearly evident leadership, I noticed most of our middles in the main doing the same thing. Tamou we can already tell is a stellar leader and with that he leads by example I think it’s clear the players care following him.
That really stuck with me in today’s game, as a whole we played well we finally have depth and competition for spots, I’m excited for what’s to come. Yes it was a trial yes we had by
far the superior team but you can only play what’s in front of you we lose games like that in the past bring on round 1.

Well said. Where is the seibold spotlight?

On our website in the watch section, I’m reasonably sure or it could have been NRL.com either one of the two.
