Wests Tigers V NZ Warriors Trial *Live Thread..

BJ -something we havnt seen in this team for a long time. Every thing else was pretty clunky imo. Defence was solid against an equally average Warriors performance.
We can't have JR at DH - the service is just not good enough. Walters wins the DH but if he can't go the eighty Maguire has got a headache.

So I missed the game as I was working on my house all weekend.

The thread is a mile long and I don't have time to read through it.

Who were the standouts, and who were off the boil?

How did Walters and Reynolds go?

yup geo and the others did preety good summaries of it

another note...... the commentators were terrible as per usual in NZ...and the penalty count was stupid, really stupid

Thanks lads.

I know Mbye picked up an injury but do they expect him to be back for round 1?

yep Madge expects him to be fit and firing for rd 1

Our try's looked very soft...only seen highlites... . Glad they played well tho... I'm guessing we need a fair bit of improvement against stronger opposition

The problem for mine was our starting middle, not so much as individuals, but more so as to their combination. Penalties weren't the only reason that we were playing out of our own end so much until the rotation was used.

Much better attack in the second half, Brooks came good when Benji went off, don’t know what to make of that.
BJ is a weapon, we have been looking for a player like him for a while now.
Nofa got two tries, Jennings had some good carries and Cory was solid, one will miss out in round 1.
Our forwards and defence were really good, good signs for the season proper.

I so look forward to the day Marshall is out of this team. He's stifled Brooks ever since his return. Reynolds at 6 is a far better option imo. Good to see the forwards do what they did yesterday. Solid and confident. Nofos defence is never gonna improve obviously, so it wouldn't surprise me if he loses his spot it the not too distant future even given his obvious meter eating and offloading ability. Good on Lawrence for his stint. And Thommo....great work. I hope he can get first crack and make it count.

I said this in 2018, again last year that Benji does stifle Brooks game, and we should not re-sign him, I was lambasted

Certainly wont be a popular opinion but it is one i agree with

Just watched a replay of the game. Joey is such a good signing. Looks like a real handful.

Remember these words.

BJ is a weapon.

We'll all be saying it this year.

I think everyone agrees Benji sometimes stifles Brooks game, but with Farah gone I think that will lessen. Plus, we didn't really have a decent alternative we could sign on minimum wage.

I said this as a joke earlier but BJ could genuinely be dally m centre of the year this year. He will stand out in a team that doesn’t have much X factor in it and there aren’t that many great centres around. Latrell is at fullback and Joey manu is in a stacked roosters team where he may not see as many points.

Joey will have a massive year for us - just keep him away from the fireworks.

Lock it in bra..
Nofo top try scorer too.

Hopefully for the comp too though.

Same old Nofo tho coming off the line.
Hopefully BJ puts him in line and this ceases.

We are in for a good year I think.
Even if we don't win the GF.. it'll be a good year.

Don't mess with BJ.

Doueihi or Thompson is the big question
Personally i like both
Thommo has clearly worked really hard this pre season and looks to be in career best form
However doueihi has height and elite level passing game
I believe right now, thommo is better. But! Doueihi has a much higher ceiling and could be twice the fullback thommo is whitin a couple of rounds, the choice is up to madge and I believe either works
Thommo above avg fb gives his all
Doueihi below avg fullback atm but once works on combos and develops as a player could be something amazing

More the fact we have gone all in on Brooks, rightly or wrongly I am not sure, but we need to give him the best chance to succeed, and that is without Benji

I know it is not an attack on Benji but age catches up to everyone and these days most of his zip has gone.I thought at least twice Benji went the wrong way when he had the ball yesterday. That decision making could be very costly this year and is something we can ill afford

That was not aimed at you more for the ones who will come again for me.
I am glad you agree, Brooks can say what he likes, but he is deadset intimidated by Benji, and plays accordingly.
Benji is Benji, he will have a brilliant play followed by a brain fart, add to that he is 35, it is time to look at other options.
If not then we might as well try sell Brooks off and go for a halfback.
