Wests Tigers win first 2011 trial

From Cuzzo:

Wests Tigers v Cowboys Trial Update
4 x 20 min quarters
End of 1st quarter: Wests Tigers lead 6-0.
19th min: A try to five-eighth Sean Meaney. Half-back Jacob Miller out a grubber kick through which was fumbled in-goal by Cowboys full-back Shannon Gallant for Meaney to dive on to score.
Jake Mullaney converted the try.
The game is being played in very humid and sticky conditions on a very heavy and slippery wet field in front of a crowd of around 4000.
North Queensland threw plenty at Wests Tigers in the opening quarter but the defence held firm.

Thanks to cuzzo for his updates

i'm guessing not lol. Next week will be a different story with a rotational first grade squad. Hate to think what they're playing on up there. Would be a pretty disgusting night to be playing footy in Townsville I'd say. Hope the boys go well but I'm really looking forward to next week's game.

Cuzzo again:

Half-time: Wests Tigers lead 12-0.
36th min: Try to centre Jake Clarke who finished off a length of the field play after a smart return kick by Fijian winger
Mullaney converted the try.
Second quarter was played in heavy rain. Wests Tigers strong defence has earned them a good lead at the main break.
Mullaney and half-back Jacob Miller doing well.

Thanks to cuzzo for his updates

End of third quarter: Wests Tigers lead 12-10.
Cowboys scored two tries from within a short range. Wests Tigers defence remains solid. Interesting final quarter coming up

Youre overdoing it a tad

Good start by the reserve graders. Some good depth in the club.

Hopefully Mullaney kicks on. The kid is going to be a superstar if given the opportunity.

![](/images/stories/news-imgs/2011/739305-north-queensland-cowboys-v-wests-tigers.jpg)Strong defence by a young forward pack has laid the platform for Wests Tigers to record a 22-10 victory over North Queensland Cowboys in Townsville tonight.

In their opening trial of the 2011 season, Wests Tigers had to overcome the heavy conditions and a late comeback by the home side to record victory at the Brothers Rugby League Club in Kirwan in front of a crowd of more than 4000.

More importantly, Wests Tigers have walked away with no major injuries in what was a great team effort. Forward Rhys Curran is the only small casualty, suffering a lose tooth.

Good stuff. If I'm not mistaken the Cowboys had a number of first graders playing in that side (Gallant, Tamou, Thorby…)
