What club would you have been angry about amalgamating with

Parra because they made it clear they were only interested in rebranding as the tigers

I might have still ended up watching them on TV but wouldn't have gone to games or bought any merchandise

Got to admit, when it was announced Balmain would be merging with Wests I walked away from the game for 3 years. I thought how could a terrible club merge with one who was worse and achieve any success? I got on board towards the end of 03 because I loved RL too much to totally give it up. To my surprise and enjoyment it sort of did work and we got an unlikely premiership out of it.

So I guess at the time I really wouldnt have cared who we went with. Wests would have been one of my last choices and now I am happy to share their history as well as Balmains. I would be the same with any other club to be honest.

I was dreading the potential merge with the Bulldogs. I was happy with Balmain and embraced it from day one.

i was already angry it was wests.
then all i wanted was that we kept the tigers.
then i was still pissed and didn't watch the first 2 years.

got over it,and get pissed at 2 crap boards instead of 1.

manly. :imp:
that would have done me,
I would have been so pissed off about it, I would have destroyed all my wests magpies items.

am still very grateful to this day that both wests & Balmain merged.

times are a bit tough at the moment.
they will improve, and wests-tigers will be feared, and not taken very lightly are they are currently.

Good thread…

Balmain were close to merging with Parra, and I didn't like the thought of what would have been a takeover one bit. However the fact we would have still kept the tigers name and the black and gold colours, somewhat softened the blow (Parramatta Tigers doesn't have a bad ring to it).

I suppose parra made sense since Balmain and Parramatta are neighbouring areas. But I just really really hated the thought of joining a team that I had always really disliked.

Then the idea of Wests popped up, and I didn't want a bar of it at first, thinking how can you have one side representing both Balmain and Campbelltown at the same time? However the more I thought about it, the more I started to warm to the idea, and when the time came was really happy that it was another battling foundation club we decided to marry.

I'll be honest, I love the tigers and rubgly league too much, so whoever we merged with, I would have ended up supporting them anyway I think.

A blue Tiger would look a bit ridiculous though?

I would have hated to have merged with Manly after seeing the way they raped and pillaged Norths and then just discarded the carcass- it is a disgrace that it was allowed to happen like that.

I was more than happy to have joined forces with the Maggies :sign: Especially on 2nd October 2005

I hated the idea of merging with Parra as it was being tossed around for some time circa 98'?? im guessing. At the time I was in my late teens and 90% of my mates went for parra having grown up as small kids in the 80's with the likes of Sterlo, Kenny, Cronin etc. I fell in love with the Tigers of the 80's, Benny, Sirro, Pearce, Blocker etc etc. So the idea to merge with Parra was sickening to me.

I always thought it would be between Parra, Wests or the doggies. I didnt like the doggies teams of the 90's so they were a little off for me too. I actually didint mind wests as they seemed to be cellar dwellers and underdogs like us for most of the 90's. I also remember a newspaper article by Tommy R. pointing out about tradition and it making sense to merge with wests a fellow foundation club and taking on a name like the "Pioneers". This idea of tradition sounded good and the merging with wests just seemed to make sense. Im happy we did. Merging with Parra would have killed my interest in the game.

Yeh about as ridiculous as a blue shark, maroon sea eagle etc….red & green rabbit

It was always just the tiger, not the colours

when all ther merger talk started about balmain and parra i wanted to fall on a knife… the only other team i could see i good fit with was wests. i prayed hoped and wished for this club i have invested money and a whole lot of time in to my beloved "WESTS TIGERS". to watch pecker heads ruin at the top..... i would have followed the tiger any where in those days. if it all goes south again i will wash my hands of rugby league

South Sydney.

Why? Because I hate their guts.

The talk of Balmain merging with Parra had me dry reaching.

Thanks.
I added the rabbit intentionally
Youve highlited my point

Not all mascots have to be in the clubs colours

Seems this is missed by many

Would most likely have been black gold and blue.

From memory Fitzgerald wasn't fussed by the logo or colours, as long as the club was called Parramatta, played out of Parramatta Stadium, had their head office in Parramatta, and he would be the CEO.

The papers even reported he had Parramatta Tigers hats made up.

Those hats were definalty made. Spoke to Alan Overton at Rydges Parra one night after noticing he had a hat on his table. He said it was all a bit of a gee-up.

I personally wouldnt have gone with wests into a manly merger but I guess that would never had happened anyway. The dogs would have been the best merger for wests I always thought. Geographically, and one side having money and the other having a massive junior area. The dogs would have been in control though. Apart from current [This word has been automatically removed] fighting I'm happy with our partners.
