What I have heard about Potter

Excellent post and more valuable perspective. The view of a successful senior player who is independent from being moved on helps me understand the issue better. I think to say that players should not be able to chose a coach is correct. That being said, I respect they are in the best position to measure his potential.

I have worked with people who make tough calls, move people on and who don't get ok results. They can serve a purpose. That said I have worked with a few that can make tough calls and yet keep everyone on the journey and engaged. It appears the players response to him is not suggesting he s the later

A coach is a leader. To be a successful leader one must have followers who chose to follow. If the coach doesn't win the following of his people, it is illogical to expect better results from the team.

Point is right or wrong players are not connecting with his leadership. It's not the tough choices. The best leaders can do that and still keep follower-ship. I trust Farah. I trust Fulton.

Maybe it is years of being babied by Sheens and the poor culture Sheens created that makes players feel this way. However they are not un happy about him being tough, rather they are unhappy at how he has let things slide with players that have been underperforming.

You're probably right, though Sheen's would let the rookies take the blame and send the back to the lower grades, the senior players were always safe, Sheen's never made them accountable.

Guys, cracking the whip, high discipline and followers sooking etc are not signs of great leaders. Great leaders inspire their followers with self belief, vision of how to achieve success and fair accountability. The comments above show a failure in leadership.

I am sure some players have made it worse, but our beloved west tigers need a great leader.

as i just wrote in another thread, i think its for the benefit of the rookies - because he is persisting with these guys. i mean look at how good these young blokes have been this year.. imagine next year?

the older guys are going to be hard to change. they are set in their ways and in their headspace - potter probably realises its not going to be effective ripping into these guys the same way, it takes a different approach… e.g. rip into the rookies, see them perform, the older guys will be embarrassed themselves and pull their fingers out...

i honestly think potter is an incredibly smart coach and if given the chance will brew something special next year.

Peeps blaming Farah….ridiculous,

Our best player ever......

great player, but hardly faultless. cam smith is still quite a distance ahead of him.

I agree with the 2 senior players,we have a number of experienced players playing bad and getting picked every week, they have every right to be miffed with the coaches lack of response to said poor efforts.

As stated in another thread, i wouldn't be surprised if its the playing group that is the problem. Sheens babied them for so long he probably turned into a bunch of precious little nancy boys. At the end of the day Potter isn't payed to be their mate.

He got kicked from pilar to post when he dropped Benchy, what's he supposed to do there's only so many players he has to choose from and add injury and the second tier cap problems and your hands are basically tied.
With all that has gone wrong this season I think no other coach would have done any better this year,

He also replaced Farah during a game. He's been tough with all players by the look of it. Too tough for some I'd say

When we run out of money and the NRL can get want they want with one less team in Sydney.

But they'd be losing a team that brings sponsors and TV audiences, even when they're playing badly. On a cost/benefit basis they'd be much better off dumping the almost unmarketable Sharks.

The ratings for tmrw nights game may be ugly. Dont think I'll be bothered.

Maybe Robbie should be captain coach and make all the right & wrong decisions and see if he can please everyone.

No matter how good you are your not bigger than the club, but hang on this is WT!

It would not surprise me in the slightest if this is the case.

Irrespective it's a mess, it's been poorly handled and should be resolved as soon as possible. The board should bring forward their end of August meeting and make a decision. All this uncertainty, conjecture and speculation only adds fuel to the fire.

If the players want Payten as head coach then appoint him and be done with it. On the proviso if things don't improve, the players who have undermined Potter should also suffer the same fate.

Why all the Farah hate? He's not been the under performing one. Eddie clearly implied the senior guys playing well, are annoyed that Potter is tough on the rookies but soft on the likes of Ayshford, Marshall, Anasta etc. how is that Farahs fault? Some people just need a scapegoat.

Let the cleansing of our club continue. I don't care who the players are, give them the option of leaving if they have clauses in their contracts. If they are being disruptive, give them a first warning in writing and put them back in their place.
