What really happened tonight

Absolutely loved it, they played like we know they can and they know they should. But lets not get ahead of our selves, we have been down this road before, lets see what team turns up next week against the warriors.

Attack, energy, effort was all better..Defence is still a major issue. Having nightmares about how are we going to defend teams like Penrith and the Storm.

Look a lot of people will be talking about Newcastle missing 1 and 7 (6 too apparently*). Yes add Kalyn Ponga and I see a tie, maybe a narrow victory for us. Add Pearce and I see the Newcastle defense and structre go up. Add both, Newcastle probably win.

Dont though under-estimate our guys.
Our Forwards stood up to:
Klemmer SOO player.
Frizzle SOO player.
Saifiti SOO player.

Our pack stopped the opposition from running over us. We saw real grit against a very tough team and we got the 2.

Yes we had faults and displayed some Classic Tiger moves... but we got the win and it was Earned.

Hopefully we can see a structure and particularly a defensive structure build off this. (And agree with other comments, if Mbye plays like that, let him stay next year)

*must be married.

as always, we cannot learn how to maintain our attitude, energy and discipline! And this refers to our 'experienced' players !

Everyone on here is easily pleased.

We beat a 1/4 strength side who are a bottom 8 side at full strength.

We did not win because of Madge or because the players showed up.

Its simple, they scored 4 tries and we scored 6. Both sides can not defend to save their life.

Brooks had a decent game against a reserve grade side, big deal.

Mind you, they blew a few tries which if they scored could have changed the game entirely.

I won’t be pleased until we back it up consistently.

Though the Bunnies game was a better (more complete) performance for mine, the team's effort and attitude was the best I've seen all year. Weren't too many signs of nerves either.
Not to take away from young Simpkin - as I think he's been good, but Liddle's energy, his service and runs in the first 30-35 looked to be the difference. Thought he, Brooks and Mbye were seamless in attack.
Obviously the team's intensity dropped in the second half yet felt they persisted and the intent was still there.
Doueihi was Doueihi. Honestly think he's only had one or two games, where he hasn't been superb for us.
Laurie was quieter than usual, so hope all is well with his sick family member.

Defence still looks a bit worrying but if we can keep up the intensity and intent for a full game, we'll be alright. Think we need both Liddle and Simpkin in the team though.
I really like this Joey.
Good work from the forwards too.
But I especially loved how invigorated we looked simply by adding a few players to the team. I know it's a week to week job but really hope we can keep this up.
Maybe it is just a matter of the team dynamics?

4 forwards ran over 100 (pre updates).

Brooks game had variety. I think Madge's best call weren't the two halves on the field, but the one on the bench and Luke responded well.

Doueihi went to another level, not because of the position change but because of his attitude. Although Mbye looked good for 20 minutes, by the end I can tell you who I would want on my team and it was AD.

We played Newcastle with the worst 6, 7, 1 combination they've ever had.

We are FAR from being considered a good consistent team but I would be happy winning by 1 pt if we can start getting our confidence and consistency going, just got to give it time imo.

This new found energy to me was a spook move against an understrength team. It worked this time, but it won't work again and definitely not on a consistent basis.

I have a feeling what this may have done is buy Madge more time and hopefully a bigger buy-in from the players as well. It's taken some pressure off him.

I think Madge is good for us and he's a really good figure to have around the club- let's hope this spook move works long term.

Long cut-out passes from DH to the centres were quite noticeable early in the game but we did not overplay it. Forwards were earning the right to go wide. Our kicks also had more variety. Usually we would go one-out for five then bomb to their right winger.

We've beat 2 teams this year man.
We'll take what we can get.

I think we were coming 2nd last in the comp, we blew some tries as well, we won and I thought we played reasonably well, hopefully this is the start of a few more wins

Effort. Noffa ran hard which allowed him to offload, Talau pushed up on an innocuous play which created a line break and a try. Brooks was there just in case. When our attack stalled and the Knights had the momentum there were usually 3 Tigers jerseys vs 2 Knights ones in the frame. That’s the key to winning. Want it more.

Smarter offloads and gap running. Simple stuff like Nofa's offload (I think it was him) for that first try. Nothing doing but a sensible pass to a playmaker and we're under the posts 5 seconds later.

i know Noffa acts as an extra f/b now and then ,takes dirtyhit ups,but G he seem's to be out of position a lot,???
