Whatever happened to the Wests in the Wests Tiger

Two things I would dearly love which would hopefully bring all involved to a more amicable assosiation.

1) A viewable copy of the JV Agreement. I have some excerpts but not the whole document. It would make our starting point clear to all parties.

I've been asking for this for some time. I've seen numerous posts make reference to this agreement as if they were directly quoting it but nobody ever seems to be able to produce the document. I'm not calling anyone a liar but it makes it hard to ascertain the veracity of what they're saying if they keep referring to a document they don't actually have a copy of. I was told Gobbs had a copy…

Yoss … Even if you did get it, it was an agreement to start the JV. Things have changed since we began hence the move to Moore Park and Homebush. It would be a pretty inflexible agreement if it could not be changed for the betterment of the Wests Tigers in the years that follow.

While ever Wests Ashfield are kicking in a fair bit of doe and have significant board representation you can be sure the best interest of the Magpies are given a fair hearing. But the Wests Tigers must take priority even if that means to the detriment of the foundation clubs.

I realise all that mate but I'd still like to take a look just the same. I agree with what you're saying though.

I reckon the ol' Maggies are doing allright ….... when I look on the scoreboard it always says Wests up there somewhere ....... thats good enough.

On the point about wearing the old jumpers ..... I think thats great .... I love seeing the old jumpers at the games.
The old Masterton, Victa, Phillips, Meriton ........ even saw an old IPEC last season !

So do I Bulldogs 78 Wests 0 Norths 50 - Wests 6

Sorry …... don't recognise state cup.

LOL…you dont **recognise** it?

Meaning its something your unfamiliar with, or you choose to ignore it?
Im guessing the latter...doesnt change the fact it still exists and for someone that doesnt recognise it, you sure talk a lot about it

As sad as it is for me to say this BOTH Western Suburbs AND Balmain are history - all be it a cherished history to some of us.
The present and future is WestsTigers all this talk of who should have what is really irrelevant and will never have both sides of the argument agree.

Maybe the MacArthur area and Wests Magpies have kicked on so much and so well since 1999 that no longer do they need the Joint Venture with the inner west Tigers?

If that were so then, no doubt many would be pleased. But if that is just a pipe dream then COMPROMISE remains the paradigm.

What a crock !
How has the game against Parramatta got anything to do with the problems relating to the merger?
Once you start denigrating people on a personal level (eg. meeting of minds) instead of basing your argument solely on facts you start to lose people.
You expect the other half of the venture to support your cause how?
By gloating over past victories by Wests over Balmain - and even by Canterbury over Balmain in a 2010 NSW Cup GF.
And , no , all Balmain supporters aren't "fancy inner city types".
I disagree with a lot of things that have happened regards the Balmain and Wests juniors too - but you say people don't care about Wests and in the next breath prove you don't care (or seems more that you dislike) Balmain.
Sheens and Humphreys are not "Balmain".
If you expect support then it might help if you didn't alienate half of the people who might actually care about your problem.

Sheens is not aligned to balmain? Try seperate the Tigers brands from in this video:

So your complaint is the WT coach appeared in a video to support the Balmain leagues club development? Are you serious? You really are plumbing the depths here mate.

The video indicates and confirms that the tigers brand of balmain and the tigers brand of WT is virtually ONE in the same. It was the way sheens worded along the lines of 'our club' when WT doesn't even have a leagues club.

Supporting the cause is fine but not distinguishing the two tigers brands/clubs does not sit well with some in what is suppose to be a 50/50 JV!

The big difference here is we're not talking about a zero sum game. Sheens and the others support for Balmain Leagues (or Wests Leagues for that matter) has no negative impact on the other side of the JV. Big different to talking about swapping venues/names/colours etc.

The debate on this topic forum revolves around the ensuring the relevance of the wests in wests tigers.. Having the 'balmain in wests tigers' presented to us by WT players, WT coach and WT/Balnain staff all in a video proves that the two tigers brands are one in the same. The video doesn't mean it has a measurable negative impact on the wests side of the JV but it helps justify the perception that WT can easily be seen as just an extension of balmain!

Lucky for us all the cashman is still playing. The only magpie or tiger still playing for us. Clearly wests players are more durable, and the magpies inherit the team by default!!! Lol

Balmain Magpies??? Theyd probably have half the supporters and be broke, hence why common sence prevailed and they kept the 'TIGER' as the selling point!

Bring on 2022… very few will give a s*** about Magpies by then!

Mate can I rename you Kero Boy

Everytime the embers start to die down and WHOOSH here's Kero Boy :roll

I'm a gold season ticket holder, have been for 4 years. I go to every home game and most Sydney home games, update my jersey every 2-3 years and attend as many members events as possible.

I'm 21\. People like myself are the future of this club, and quite honestly, I couldn't care less about this debate. The news of the clubs merging, and the last games of Balmain and the Magpies occurred when I was 8\. The club is going forward, it's been 12 years. TWELVE. I understand alot of you here are much older than myself and have had long affiliations with either side of the JV, but I don't see us as a JV anymore.

We're a new team, with a new playing style, playing in a modern jersey who's colours are influenced by 2 historic clubs. Get over it and move on.

I respect your view but If you were 5-10 years older you prob would have had an alignment to balmain or wests. More than likely your family already did.

There are thousands of fans who are aligned to their former club and that is why we see people wearing old jerseys etc if we were ALL told to move on then imagine the uproar if WT decided to Abandon leichhardt oval for the sfs and fans then asked 'what about the tradition of leichhardt oval'? Would they be just told to MOVE ON? Think of it that way

Some fans follow league at different levels.. Some nrl only, some nyc, some nsw cup (balmain or wests), some all 3 levels..

It may mean little to some but it can obviously mean alot to others!

Otherwise we would not have these long ongoing discussions, arguments and debates about matters to the heart..

Im this case all some ask is to keep wests relevant in wests tigers

I don't get what the old Maggie supporters want from old Balmain Tigers or Wests Tigers supporters. Respect for the heritage no one could argue you don't deserve that. We cannot influence the entire RL community to always refer to them as Wests Tigers. As far as the change of name for the Reggies to Wests Tigers goes, it looks like both Balmain and Wests are just extending the JV and instead of what you are losing look at what you are gaining. This is the opportunity to build on the JV and become an absolute power house in the game. Enough of the petty whinging, united we can achieve greatness including giving the MacArthur district a club they identify with and are willing to embrace.

Yeah that's right … I've had plenty to say about it !

I've certainly seen that, but I'm sure they shorten the names of all the other clubs as well. Just watching Sunrise right now and it's the Eels and Dogs, not Parramatta not Canterbury. I just think there's a habit to shorten it all.

Yes they could be mentioning Wests a bit more, it just seems that the mascot name is the one that gets used the most in regards to all sides.

It doesn't matter for other clubs as they are not a JV! They have all had the same name and brand since day one. WT is a JV with its own unique brand/identity.

I'm sure Steelers fans would disagree

Wests is not a mouthful or a tongue twister. Nit hard to add it to the word tigers in print or verbal form.

Yes its the mascot of WT but it was also the mascot for balmain. The magpie is gone so the name wests is all that is left to preserve the wests in wests tigers.
\
\
_Posted using RoarFEED 2012_

It doesn't matter if it's a mouthful or not fact is every other club, for the most part, gets called by their mascot name, especially during the calls as it's quicker to get that out than the full name. However, they could also say Wests, but I guess it's been habit to just refer to clubs by their mascot name.

However, in print, yes they could be referred to as Wests Tigers, no argument there.

I can understand your frustration and I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot the other half of the joint venture would probably have issues as well, but I don't think that the Magpies will be forgotten, certainly plenty of opposition supporters refer to us as the Tigpies.

Here we go again ,another nobody in the press trying to to stir up the pot.
The topics been done to death and its BORING .We are the WESTSTIGERS cant we just leave it at that ?
By THE WAY we played in the Wests junior rep jerseys last weekend and they do have a Weststigers emblem on them ,and are black white and gold .

You didnt answer my question….which way do you ''not recognize it"?

Its not like it used to be?

Which way dont you recognize it???

I had to go look that up, but yes Ray did play for the Black Birds before the JV… That is a great achievement, and now I understand why some are so wrapped up about him...

Well Done Cashie!
