So do I Bulldogs 78 Wests 0 Norths 50 - Wests 6

Sorry …... don't recognise state cup.

x2 - I care about it as much as Group 21 in the Hunter Valley. Its just park footy to me (and 97% of League supporters) dont follow it, never have, dont care for it. dont think ive ever seen a game or a result nor have the desire for it. I follow the big game. The one that all rugby leagues fans care about and the one that gets media attention. NOT CRAPPY PARK FOOTY that unless your a western suburbs magpie supporter who follows it as they are bitter and twisted that the name WESTS doesnt get enough attention??? wow, so petty. Its not 1950, move on.

by the way it is actually pretty weird to say WTFL1981, i remember when they announced the name in the early days it was banded around about what a stupid name Westssssssss Tigers was…...shouldnt it be The Western Tigers??? sounds so much better!!

Had we been called the 'Western' Tigers then the Wests brand would almost certainly be dead as you couldn't call them anything else but the Tigers. At least with the way it turned out, you can still refer to them as 'Wests'. It was the smart thinng to do

100% agree and i have never implied that WT should be called western tigers, western suburbs tigers or anything else

Wests Tigers represents both clubs but that only works if the media and league community calls them wests tigers majority of the time and the wests brand remains relevant in the jv

I know people have their 'its all about the first grade side' glasses on but nsw cup has played a key role in the development of wt since 2000

So as much as its irrelevant to the majority its has its role and function in supporting WT.

Good article.

I wonder how some to the Balmain supporters, who are sneering as usual, would react if the team was called the Balmain Magpies and were consistently called the Magpies by commentators? (except Ray Warren)

I would argue though that the best way to make an effective structure would be to have one State Cup side fed by one or two Bundy Cup sides.

The time to establish this is now though as we are at the stage of the NYC competitions evolution where more and more players will be lost to the game because of very limited options after the NYC.

magpiecol if that was the way that was decided at the beginning I could live with it. I think it was decided based on fair principals though as Balmain is far too narrow a focus for the name preceeding the Mascot. When I see the team reffered to as Wests I have zero issue with that because it is part of who we are

Balmain Magpies??? Theyd probably have half the supporters and be broke, hence why common sence prevailed and they kept the 'TIGER' as the selling point!

Bring on 2022… very few will give a shit about Magpies by then!

Your right Watto, theres no marketing value in the Magpie name. I mean geez, just look at Collingwood, the most recognized team in Australian sport :unamused:

People just disrespect one half of the JV. Comments like this just sum it up and prove my point.

How about everyone start supporting the merger. The past is the past, we can all easily remember magpies and balmain for what they were.
We are wests tigers now

Two things I would dearly love which would hopefully bring all involved to a more amicable assosiation.

1) A viewable copy of the JV Agreement. I have some excerpts but not the whole document. It would make our starting point clear to all parties.

I've been asking for this for some time. I've seen numerous posts make reference to this agreement as if they were directly quoting it but nobody ever seems to be able to produce the document. I'm not calling anyone a liar but it makes it hard to ascertain the veracity of what they're saying if they keep referring to a document they don't actually have a copy of. I was told Gobbs had a copy…

Which from a marketing perspective is exactly the reason you would NOT have it as your emblem.

There is a Tiger on the front, two magpies on the side and we are called WESTS TIGERS….. what the hell more could be done in the interest of equity?

I assume the team would have all three colours? It would not make sense having a team called "The Magpies", and have them dress in black, white and gold…

I don't know why people make such a big deal about the colours matching the emblem. Is a Bulldog blue and white? is an Eel blue and gold? a Rabbitoh red and green and a Rooster red, white and blue. It doesn't matter. Anyway i'm not not trying to push the Magpie name, i'm quite happy being a Tiger. Just questioning the typical pig-headedness of the one who thought he'd get a kick out of dis-respecting the Magpie name

Did Canterbury get the same grief when they gave up the berries name? Is there some supporter out there wishing the berries name was still out on the park running around?

Yoss … Even if you did get it, it was an agreement to start the JV. Things have changed since we began hence the move to Moore Park and Homebush. It would be a pretty inflexible agreement if it could not be changed for the betterment of the Wests Tigers in the years that follow.

While ever Wests Ashfield are kicking in a fair bit of doe and have significant board representation you can be sure the best interest of the Magpies are given a fair hearing. But the Wests Tigers must take priority even if that means to the detriment of the foundation clubs.

Again, another fool. Your mum must be so proud.

Its the best spectator sport ever… watching a few old magpies fighting over the chips that no one wanted!

WESTS TIGERS is the way forward and I'd hope we see this across all levels of senior football for all the juniors to have a clear pathway!
