When players turn on fans

Looking at what has happened lately, with the WT and also some Manly players (against Canberra) it reminded me that there have been many previous occasions, in other sports.
I recall Mark Bosnich's Naz salute at WHite Hart Lane; not to mention the controversy with Adam Goods, to bring it to a local context. Typically (some) fans - and I believe the minority to be clear - appear to want a oneway relationship when at the game. That is, I can call a player all things under the sun, possibly because I have paid an entrance fee that automatically grants me a licence to say (and on occasions do) whatever I want. However, I have also an automatic insurance that prevents said player (credit to their own professionalism) to say/demonstrate any verbal or non verbal animosity toward me. I won't go into the online exchanges, a separate subject altogether. But I do wonder if the genie is out of the bottle now, and whether we are now seeing a new generation of players that are not prepared to cop it anymore, and are giving as good as they get. Not where you want ANY sport to end up. But some things just seem to grow, like weeds in a garden.

Respect is damn hard to get. If we remember what it is.

Not classy, but not illegal from fans.

Players are representing their employer so are held to a different standard.

When you apply it to your own work lofe it starts to make sense.

Ezra Mam tried to go down the Adam Goodes road of claiming he was being victimised by the public over the Leniu stuff. Forgetting about that little fender bender that almost killed two people. Whether he really believed it or was just trying to deflect, who knows. Either way, it’s someone showing they aren’t in touch with reality.

Slight but important difference:

there are dickwad fans who believe you can scream at players all they want.

We also live in an age where people push division. Where Photographers were waiting to photograph Emma Watson the moment she was 18. Where people go below the belt and heckle players about their race, about their parents and even threaten their kids.

Look I get players being given normal sledging crap and giving some back. Sometimes people just loose their cool.

I also get someone going way below the belt, and a player loosing it totally. I kinda regard this as a karma-asking.
