Which team will get the 18th Franchise

They sound a bit insecure. I wouldn't put another team in anywhere that's 40klms from another NRL club. That area is well serviced.
Real risk of losing a true rugby league town to AFL.....I don't think Ipswich will get picked after losing out to Redcliffe .....just my fear of my town going down the rugby league gurgler
AFL have set up their junior base on the fringe of Ipswich

Tv rights. The 2 hour.time difference when put forward to the tv execs means more opportunites for advertising revenue.

Kick off over here at 4pm = 6pm on the East. Of cpuld kick off at 6pm and be the 8pm game. Either or there is enough sponsorship and support to justify a team more than evreryelse bar ipswich/South Brisbane
4pm Sunday in Perth would be attractive to Foxtel for super Sunday.

How would any new franchise make money for the NRL? Any team from anywhere will give them more revenue from broadcasters for the extra game.
Sure....then it comes down to the additional revenue for the extra game vs additional cost. Ipswich v Perth how do you think that maths works out? PNG (including Fed Govt $$) which is effectively a second NQ team v Perth? Second NZ team would actually significantly increase revenue

In Tv dollars NRL gets $400 million per year for 8 games/wk. $50 million per game/wk. More than enough to fund a new team. Add to that they are looking further afield at international streaming rights. I don’t think it’s about where they go rather when.

Well it depends if they want to go to a new area or just another brisbane suburb. If they are lazy and lack ambition, bris 3 is a shoe in.
PNG falls over if the Feds pull the money. It's not a good business case.
How does NZ significantly increase revenue? Although I di agree it would be a great choice.
Perth and NZ also bring new eyes to the code and increases the playing pool.

Don’t disagree with your summation but
if they are swimming in cash perhaps they could throw a few mil more into grass roots development and regional games etc. increasing teams just dilutes the talent pool and quality of product suffers.

Would be more worried about soccer if they ever get their head in the game.

Nothing wrong with the occasional riot.

Vote #1 PNG
Albo could have a referendum on the question of an 18th team and advocate a YES vote for a PNG team, he could even get some Corporate support from QANTAS and Woolworths.

Riots wouldn't be a problem for Albo, he could send a warship or even some personnel to quell any possible riots.

Albo, being such a handsome boy, could even arrange for a Chinese peace keeping force to come to town. I'm sure his new found allies would not hesitate to assist in any way possible.

The Fed gov is very worried about China’s foot print close to our shores. With Papua New Guinea’s absolute obsession with the NRL, a franchise up there, under written by Canberra would be a very cheap way of buying their loyalty.

Of course the team would have to be based in Cairns and fly in and out on game day in order to attract enough NRL standard players to get the franchise started.

In saying all of the above, unless Albo makes a deal the NRL can’t refuse, I can’t see it happening. I think they would look at Perth or a second NZ team first, based on time slots and marketing

Yes, it's a great idea for the govt. No so much for the NRL.

100% agree the sport is facing a crisis in participation which they are trying to hide by boasting about growth in the female game. Also started using tip footy numbers to hide the issue.

There is valid Australian political reasoning and PNG social development benefits that would be afforded by awarding PNG a licence. However, the costs associated with the necessary security for all, additional travel and infrastructure would be massive and require committed long-term government support. There is no way the game can or will finance this. To fully assimilate the region will take generations.

A footy team in Papua New Guinea would be
a sure fire way to counter Chinese influence
in the region lmao. Absurd. Give the license to
Western Australia and name them the bears

Really sounds like China should offer to develope the country. Could really help the locals.
Or else 17 footy players could drop in and play a game every now and then.
