Who are the players to leave?

THE Tigers have fought off a late approach from the Roosters to sign Kiwi international forward Adam Blair. It hasn't been announced because Tigers officials are still reeling from a massive fine this week for salary-cap breaches and know it would be a bad look.
But take it from me, it's a done deal and Blair, one of the form forwards of the NRL, didn't come cheap. I'm hearing he will set the Tigers back almost $500,000, which means the club will have to clean out several stars to fit him in.

could one be Todd Payten?
a war horse who has been a great players for wests-tigers over the years, but sadly his body is now showing the signs wear and tear of being in NRL.
 
Possibly Mckinnon, Daniella, Payten (coaching role after forced retirement) Moors, Utai, Fulton. Lets go back to the local juniors policy we had in 04/05.
 
Payten, Gibbs, Fulton, Moltzen, Ryan, Al Schirnack and Utai imo. Utai has been good (as have the others I suppose in ways) but he's not irreplaceable and by then one of our young gun wingers will have stepped up, either Tagive or Koroibete most likely.

If it is true the actual figure will be far less due to third party deals etc . Also remember we have a few tigers who will qualify for the club juniors discounts , and the loss of TNT and Cayless . We might need to get rid of a few fringe top graders and Payten probably retiring at the end of this season . Players to go Flanagan , Moors, Daniela and Jason Shirnack imo

happy to let go: Payten, Fulton, Schirnack, Moors, Ryan, Utai, Daniella but not Gibbs!

need to keep: BMM, Fifita, Woods, and Dwyer as they are the future.
 
Moors, Flanagan, Daniela, possibly Brown, Payten and Schirnack will all go IMO. I'm not sold on Gibbs and Fulton leaving since they each have a couple of years left on their contracts but if Blair has cost close to $500k then one of them may end up on the chopping board.
 
The thing with letting go Moors for example is that he would be on minimum wage already so as would Utai (this yr) and Schirnack so even if you let them go you have to replace them with someone else on minimum wage so from a salary cap point of view you don't gain anything
I think Payten will retire and either Gibbs and Fulton (who will be a package) and perhaps Moltzen will go as well. We have a few outside backs off contract in Brown, Daniella and Utai - I would say at least 2 of those won't stay, with Utai almost certain to go somewhere else I'd say just because of the salary increase he will be next year and given we have Beau on contract and a heap of young wingers coming through
 
If the Blair thing is on the money it will be great and yes we will have to offload about three players of regular 1st grade standard and really you need a changing of the guard every few years to keep the club fresh.Iam not saying wholesale sackings and Iam not saying sackings for the sake of sackings but you do need change. Fulton and Gibbs are both great players and have given the club plenty but I would argue that they both have players in their respective positions that need retaining for the future.

In a few years we may be saying the same thing about Benji and Farah, you have to keep moving on

Fulton could be the utility on the bench, but Sheens uses him AND another person. Better off just leaving him.

Please dont lose Gibbs…PLEASE DONT!

The trouble most clubs have is getting enough low price players for depth. If you get rid of all your depth players than you run into all sorts of problems when injuries hit. Also you have to have 25 contracted players on the base level or above. With the likes of Farah,Marshall,lote,Larwence,Ellis,Rhino and now possibly Blair it dosnt leave that much for all the other players. So that is why the club has to look at a few players who have substantial contracts rather than base contract players who have high incentive factors built in
 
I have no idea about contracts etc. mate, thanks for pointing that out though :laughing:

Just going with the thread that if you had to get rid of several players, they^ would be the ones for me, coz I don't rate them.
 
Why dont we send gibbs and fulton to england till 2013 when the salary cap will increase and the squad goes to 30 players.These 2 will be handy reserves in the squad.We should be looking at getting rid of the deadwood players in the squad like j.shirnack,moors,flanagan,a.shirnack and toddy to retire.I would love utai to stay next yr,just think of a wing pairing of lote and utai.
 
Thank god for this. Though it won't take long for Blair to get used to our style, i.e running into the markers, receiving the ball flat footed, running with little gusto etc. etc.
