Who can play at 6??

Here's a question for some of the more salary cap minded people

If we don't replace Moses ( and this will depend on his actual contract ) will we actually be cheating the cap ??

If we aren't within 91% of the total cap and you add whatever Simona put us under the cap we could actually be in real strife

Thoughts ??

I can't understand how anyone can consider Benji for more than a split second without their head exploding. A million times no. He needs to focus on going back to being a celebrity.

there is a video of Benji here for seasons 2014-6 he seems a lot better than Brookes

Benji has played some of his best football in the last couple years but I wouldn't consider signing. Age old story of never look back

Yes we would be breaching that rule but it would be a pretty easy fix to just upgrade and extend a player or two. If we really wanted we could apply for an exemption based on players released but there is no reason to do that - the money is there so spend it before the NRL asks for it back…

Firstly you need to remove any TPA within Moses contract to get his actual Cap Value, then [I'd be stumped if we dont] add the player we will gain as part of the release, it probably wont as high as you think.

If needed, you make a few minor upgrades and you are sweet.

If Moses is very shortly to move on I think that Cleary should give strong thought to playing Suli at five eight. He would certainly straighten our attack and bolster our defence in the middle. Suli reminds me so much of Brian Clay who played five eight for St George in their extended 50-60's premiership run.

SMH suggested we'd use the cap space to front load some $$ towards Teddy and Woods.

So we are going to sacrifice the 2017 season to do that? Doesn't make much sense to me.

If they did stitch up a deal with Parra, they would have to find a player willing to jump ship and I guess pay him more than he is getting now in order to entice him to jump ship. Although I guess parra might agree to pay any contract increase. I just don't see any guy in the top 17 who would want to jump ship. Maybe they have a real gun u20s player that is worth looking at, but as others have said we need good quality Fgraders,no more P platers

Personally I wouldn't release him unless we got something in return, but that was the story the SMH ran.

:roll

I'm with you BB. I seriously think a lot of people on here have lost the plot during this whole drama. Thread upon thread of character assassinations and rotten things being posted about some of our best players, who they now think they are really crap players because they don't like their personalities :crazy and to top it off we have so many people are liking the idea of bringing Benji back??? Words fail me 😕

Looks like there may be a couple of contenders from Cronulla becoming available;

Maloney upgrade deepens the bite on Sharks
Josh Massoud and Liam Cox - 7Sport on April 13, 2017, 7:00 am

Following the retirement of Michael Ennis, there’s now a very good argument for James Maloney.

The five eighth wasn’t at the top of his game when signed for the Sharks midway through 2015 – a three-year deal worth about $1.6 million.

After winning a second premiership, regaining his Blues jersey and debuting for the Kangaroos last year, Maloney would now be worth considerably more on the open market. The 30-year-old knows as much and approached Sharks management some time ago, seeking a healthy upgrade for the remaining 18 months of his deal. So far there’s been no agreement reached; and the potential for tension has rivals – both here and in the UK - watching the situation closely.

Halves partner Chad Townsend is also off-contract and initially asked for $700,000-a-season. The Sharks recently tabled a three-year extension for Townsend that doesn’t quite meet that level, albeit quite competitive.

Expectations are that Jack Bird will make a call on his future today. The Sharks put a deadline on Bird for 5pm last Friday, but extended it after the in-demand utility met a group of influential supporters.

I would make Moses play out the year. He has a contract in place for 2017…....it is 2017.

Whatever he has signed with Parra for 2018 onwards.....is from next year onwards.

There is still a premiership to play for this year. He is contracted to us, he is being paid....hence he should be made to play out the year.

BUT !!!!.....If they do release him.......I'd get Benji back for the rest of the year. Surely he doesn't want to play QLD Cup....bring Benji back to finish his career which will be this year.....we could do with the experience even if he isn't as fast, or sharp.

Injury Update - Benji Marshall
Mon 3rd April, 12:44PM

SCANS this morning have confirmed Benji Marshall has fractured his wrist and faces a stint on the sidelines. Marshall hurt the joint in Redcliffe’s 28-20 win over the Ipswich Jets after a collision with Billy McConnachie.

It was a sad end to the day for Marshall, who was in scintillating form, scoring a try and setting up three others.

However his hopes of a return to the NRL were hit this morning when scans revealed he has a fractured wrist, which Broncos’ medical staff estimate will take six weeks to heal. The fracture is in the radius, one of the two large bones of the forearm, which extends from the lateral side of the elbow to the thumb side of the wrist.

There was at least some positive news with it unlikely Marshall will need surgery to fix any displacement in the fracture. “It is really unlucky for it to happen like this but that is football,” he said. “All I can do now is concentrate on it getting better and keep training for a return as soon as I am able.”

Marshall played his first match as a Bronco against the Storm in round three when he came off the bench in the second half.
