As long as a player is getting his market worth i dont think the NRL can get involved in who is paying what. For example if Ballins market value is $400k and manly is willing to pay $300k while we pay $100k, i dont think the Nrl can stop it. Its only when a player is getting unders they will not register it.

They don't get involved, but the NRL has to determine a market value of the player for the purposes of the salary cap. So taking your example above, whilst Wests pays $100k, the NRL (with whom the contract is registered) may rule that under the salary cap, Ballin is worth $200k.

So even if we pay him $100k it would still count towards $200k of our salary cap?

Then what happens to manly who is still paying $300k, does it only count towards $200k of their salary cap.

Id love to know how it actually works, from an NRL source.

Tigers2005, the next line is, "This includes the amount Farah’s new club are willing to pay as part of a release and this negotiation could take weeks to finalise"

I could be wrong, but I interpret that as the real negotiation is between the 2 clubs as to who pays what. If another club puts in $300k, our "payout" is $650k.

The next line just adds more confusion Masterton. It is saying there is more than one thing being negotiated, one of which is the new club vs the tigers. Its all speculation, but i think there is alot more going on then meets the eye. If it was only as you stated the negotiation about how much his new club is willing to pay, then its between the 2 clubs nothing to do with farah as he will still get his $950k. I reckon (im speculating) rabbits have come in saying we will pay $350k and the tigers have gone back to farah and said we will pay you $500k, so $850k instead of $950k and i reckon Farah is not budging and neither is the new club. But again who knows.

Yes, I suspect the papers keep it deliberately vague sometimes because they don't really know either.

One thing I'm fairly certain of is Robbie isn't going to settle for less, and nor should he.

Robbie has backed himself into a corner. The club now has the upper hand hence the flurry of media from ayoub.
Robbie could never play NRL again if he isn't careful and I think he is finally getting it.

I don't agree with that, I still think Farah has the upper hand, the club/coach want him gone to free up cap space, they really need him gone because JT has made his bed now.
The way I see it if I am Farah is, I don't have to do anything, especially what JT wants because I am getting paid regardless, he can hang around and annoy JT all next year, he will still get an ESL deal in 2018 regardless.
He might if he is lucky pick up an NRL deal for 2018 after hanging around for another year, he can just say I couldn't bring myself to play for another club and it puts it all back on JT next year, if Farah plays it like that then he has the upper hand in my opinion.

Farah is contracted next year on a supposed $950k, that automatically gives him the upper hand.

Well it will be the last NRL and possibly the last league cheque he'll be cashing.
Nobody will touch him after a year in reserves. Even less attractive for England by 2017.
If he wants another cheque it be up to the club.

I don't think he could handle a year in reggies next season… Couldn't do 5 weeks this year.... Ego apparently

You may be right, but if he could do it he would have the upper hand for sure.

"Ego apparently"? Seriously?? And you pretend to be a fan of Wests Tigers? Apparently?

You have pretty well answered your own question and it was really simple, as you are aware that negotiations are in progress. Robbie may even choose to take an offer that sees him $50k worse off next year to gain an extra $100k for 2018 from a prospective club that may have less room in their 2017 cap, or could simply choose a better roster.

Regardless of if and/or where he may go, WT must pay all of the contract or shortfall unless ROBBIE chooses otherwise. Simples.

Robbie Farah is in the driving position of this situation. And, deservedly so.

Not really. He'd rather be staying and playing first grade.

Yep I think your right Gallagher. Any success the team has -always thought while ever Farah was playing he would be there amongst.
Not to be. Bitter sweet this weekend for me if they manage a win.

Tigers could squash his career right now and not grant a release.
I doubt he wants his first grade career done and dusted now because of ayoub games.
