Spud just put his hand up as a defensive asistant/coach for Madge.

Did he really?

Yep, said he's only a phone call away.

I'd be looking at elevating Wayne Lambkin to the NRL coaching staff ..experienced respected junior coach .. knows pathways ..had the Flegg side humming..already in our system..

His connection to the schools is important. Pay him what he wants but flegg coach is his strength.

You need to have a variety of personalities on the coaching staff, as well as the coaching nous.
All players have different personalities, so the coaching staff needs to reflect that, so they have someone relatable giving the message. Can't have too many Madge types.

Defensive coach~ Dean Pay
Attack coach~ Kimmorley/ Matt John's part time
Back of house~ Farah and a Polynesian former player (Halatau, Stacey Jones,???)

Pay
Kimmorley
Furner (Assistant Newcastle 2021)
Agree if Robbie wants to coach needs to start at lower grades and earn his stripes.

I'd prefer not to cannibalise parts of the club that running well.

Matty John's seems like a pretty good analyst and has a likeability to him. He definitely won't be assistant but a halves coach or some part time role would suit him I think.

Paul Green also gets along with his players very well. He had a really weird divorce with the Maroons.

Farah? Yeah, I can't see a bloke that never coached before making a difference.

I'd keep Robbie on as a trainer and in a hooker coaching role for now. In the future, who knows

Seems as though people are under estimating the importance of that role.
During the season our most success came when Farah was there to relay the messages directly from the box to the field.

His haters will always under estimate him. His fans can see the difference he made in that minor role and want him to play a larger part.

Couldn't think of anyone tougher or more committed than Spud. It just depends on his ability to devise and coach defensive structures.
The other guy who has been mentioned on the Forum before is Dean Pay. I can't recall too many better defenders than Pay but you have to ask the same questions about him. He has at least coached at NRL level.

@coivtny
Know his techniques are no longer permitted in the game but I could imagine the rev up he'd give someone like Blore. Tbh he convinced me when he said they won't be handing/giving out bandaids but instead bruises 😂

Purely going on other forumers take on him but Dean Pay wouldn't be too bad a candidate from what some have said about him.

In the mix I’d like Sam Burgess, Robbie Farah, Brett Kimmorley, John Morris … some of these younger types to complement Madge & Sheensie.

I really like the idea of Dean Pay. Although his NRL coaching record isn’t great, I think he would be a good assistant coach.

After seeing Robbie in the doco, his passion and commitment to the club is crucial moving forward. I don't know if he is ready to be an assistant but i would love to see his role increased.

Would you see him as an attack or defense coach?

Sure have a larger role. But don’t remove him from that in the game day duties. Having a former player like him respected by his peers etc is extremely valuable when not just delivering water but also messages.

Furner was at the Dogs with Barrett this year. 2020 at Newcastle.

Wouldn't mind seeing Flannagan & Robie given a chance.

Agree with Robbie but what did Flanno achieve at Dragons in assistant role ?

Robbie? We want a bloke who's literally never coached before?

Someone with experience please. No clue who'd be a decent assistant though, they're not exactly well known people at majority of clubs.
