Who to throw money at?

I agree with juniors, however with the pending departure of pettybourne, ayshford, moltzen (?), and Marshall.

There would have to be more than enough to retain our juniors and also recruit one or two decent signings.

Just an assumption

Moltzen- 300k
Lote- 350k
Pettybourne- 280k
Ayshford- 200k
Benji- 600k
Utai- 130k
Bell- 90k

1.7 million..wow

Lote, Utai, Bell…we will have some serious room in our cap.

Yes I agree, there's some money to make a dent, but in all honesty.

We have more than enough outside backs, front row, is starting to shape up, halfs are juniors coming through, it only leaves back row… How many are actually genuine contenders you would spend $$$ on?

And don't say SBW, he won't leave the roosters.

Would rather stay away from players on big money, would not be happy with Izzy TBH

WTF?? You'd rather stay away from players on big money? You have noticed we're near the bottom of the table havent you.

Not saying we should or shouldn't but a few of the big names off contract for next year still
Josh Dugan
Craig Gower - only as someone to teach Brooks and give him some backup ?
Kevin Kingston -as backup for Robbie
Tom Burgess - can all 4 really be in souths top team together

To be honest though I think we buy some depth players and then save our pennies for 2015 given its late in the season. We need a top class back rower for mine and our young blokes to develop

Or perhaps someone from rugby union -folau has obviously been mentioned but perhaps James O'Connor he was a league junior and is looking for a game .

Another option is super league but more for depth as I'm not sure any stars left

Also we will need to hold onto Moltzen as good back up I'd say

And those numbers are crazy Lote isn't on 350 k by a long long way , Moltz isn't on that much, either is pettybourne

What can a winger do to the team? We already have decent wingers. Just wait until good forwards come off contract like George and Tom Burgess,

Kieran Foran. Haha never gonna happen but one could wish.

I actually don't think we need to look to sign anyone in the halves. Anasta can play 6 next year with Brooks at 7, with an aim to blood Moses off the bench to get him ready for 2015 when Anasta is gone.

I'd be looking to sign some line-bending backrowers and beef up our pack. Someone like Boyd Cordner, Having a big pack who can make the metres would make the young halves transition into first grade much easier.

I wouldn't be surprised if Benji is backloaded to the hills!

If we have free space, why not go after Rangi Chase?

minus whatever we're paying off. I read somehwere it was 250k last year, 100k this year and 60k next year?? It was today, some article on benji. Dunno about the legitimacy.

But it's a lotta money even after resigning the young guns.

As scary as this sounds ,maybe we follow the Roosters lead and wait for the right player that will suit our needs

If it takes 18 months , so be it

Still think Benji is trying to call our bluff , don't think he will find another suitor to fork out what the Tigers will

Tend to agree with Milky here. We don't exactly have a stellar record when it comes to big money purchases. Lets maybe look for some value to get us into the eight next year got some finals football experience, then chase some quality for 2015 to make a real impact.

Hilarious. Lote is on nowhere near $350,000 of our cap this year. Try closer to what you listed for Bell. Pettybourne would be on closer to $200,000\. Moltzen would be on about 180,000 to 250,000.

if we have heaps of room in the cap would it be possible to front load our current contracts for 1 year then have heaps of space to splurge for 2015 and become serious title contenders

We start brooks minimum for next year and if he is a star we have the money for sure to upgrade in 2015 and have 2-3 marquee signings
\
\
so dont sign anyone else for 2014 and invest in youth for a strike at 2015 title

Suddenly Anasta and Moltzen are genuine options for next season. There isn't much left on the market outside Williams or a Folau.

Sirro is still here too, at some point we have to see if Brooks has what it takes.

i know hes contracted till 2016, but imo if we cant grasp SBW, we shud really look at josh papalii and a decent 5/8 that plays the high percentages to go with brooks for the future. nothing really on the market now shud wait till 2015-16 and go on a premiership winning spree imo

I hope for something similar, though not quite as extreme. We need to take stock of our current predicament (pre Benji decision), where we have a full cap and mediocre top squad.

We will now need to get a decent player to play in the halves as Marshall's replacement, as it is too big a gamble to rely solely on our promising youth.

Throw money at nobody at all.

Make astute buys, buys that will build a professional club culture to nurture our younger guys and have the win at all costs mentality

Was about to make the same post. Let's stay under the salary, well under. have 200k-300k up our sleeves to make an astute purchase when some great player comes on the market. Roosters were well under the cap in recent years i believe, which is how they bought SBW so easily.
