Who would you rather?

I was thinking a lot about this and likeminded choices.
Matterson, Marsters and Matalino (Retired)
being replaced by
Doulei, and both Leilua's.

Honestly it's a trade for forwards for Backs. BJ is an interesting center, but I like the way when fired up he can get to the line and provides something different in attack. While loosing Matterson if he was disgruntled would be a good idea, we get BJ disgruntled from Canberra. Ricky is a definite character who will work people hard. Madge is the same I just hope Madge has better people skills to handle this. (wondering if Jason Taylor is around to give a people skills management course?

If so can someone sponsor him for Easts?)

BJ going into center I think will be a top move for us. You need top shelf talent or talent that can go up a gear if you are going to make the finals. If BJ works hard he will be that talent, but lets face it he left Canberra for a reason. I hope he can prove himself when he is here.

Likewise Doulei (i'm calling him Doolies? I can't type that name). A lot of potential, good games for Lebanon and probably our best choice at Fullback. Will he Gell there and live up to the Hype? who knows.

This leaves our front row. Loosing Matalino and Matterson being replaced with L Leilua and Zane Musgrove (dinnit we sign him last year and the player was naughty??). Mats was about as good as one of these two. Matterson's work rate gets replaced by impact. That's good we need impact.
But we have lost that Liam Fulton like work rate that seriously helps us win games.

Overall we swapped forwards for backs and I hope our new forwards step up to the mark.

Think you are totally selling Lucy's workrate short. He is an 80 minute goer when needed and a lot fitter than last year which will make him even more of a goer.

I think Marsters is very talented but he tries too hard to keep his offloading stats up which invariably causes so many errors

Because they want to be here

This is the only acceptable reason. Madness to ask this question before we’ve even played a game.

If the question was along the lines of "who is the best WestsTigers backrow/centre ?" I could understand your point. But it's not.
Recruitment has to work this stuff out before they sign players

The club had no choice but to release Matterson. He backed them into a corner. It wasn’t a choice for them to have the Luilea’s over Matterson.

The WTs did have a choice. Matterson was only in his first year of a three year contract.
This happens to clubs on occasions, take Cronulla for example.

You’re wrong. It was either hold him to the contract and run the risk of him poisoning the minds of teammates, or cut their losses and move on.

LOL. You’ve just described a choice.

Only if you want to split hairs. Anyone with a brain knows there was only one choice and the club made it.

I have a brain and I believe the club handled this very very poorly. Your right there was one choice , you stay contracted to the tigers unless the eels give us a player we want.

They did. They gave us Luciano. It's just you can't see that.

Did Luciano play for the eels?? That’s a Donald Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon special. Or you saying we only got Luciano because we released matterson? Which again is incorrect because we still have money to spend.

I'm saying, the club and Matterson, wrightly or wrongly decided that it was beneficial for both parties to move on. Once that was acheived, we were able to move with genuine intentions to attract a player that we figured was a a good match and offered him a good deal. Parramatta are a-holes. Everyone knows that. But would we have gone for Lucy if we still had Matterson? Maybe yes, maybe no. When it was clear that he wasn't a good fit for the team it was time to move on and we did. We don't need people like Matterson. Parramatta did us a favour. Getting bogged down in that crap serves no purpose.

No that’s not what you were saying. And what I’m saying is that we shouldn’t have rolled over for nothing. We should have said you want matto we want the parra forward that’s signed to us next year. We release matto you release him. We rolled over and they didn’t , so they now have both.

It was a smart move. No club holds players to contracts if they don’t want to be there. That doesn’t happen anymore. It’s a good thing financially we decided to cut the cord when we did. Didn’t really have time to hold Parra to ransom. There was no rule that said we had to get something back from Parra. Why restrict yourself to getting a player from one particular team when there are 14 others out there.

Lucy has nothing to do with this, because we had no salary cap issues at the time and he plays for the dragons , so the two are unrelated.

Stefano didnt sign for us until mid/late November.Matterson was released in October because of his attitude, if he had still been with us in November we would have been liable for 1/12 of his salary. It was a smart move by the club because it freed up more of the salary cap

It was a smart move. No club holds players to contracts if they don’t want to be there.

Parramatta does

So does Melbourne...

Bj and Luci

Who are they holding to a contract?

JAC for starters ... and the young hooker who wants to come here.

They aren’t releasing the hooker to us, it’s one year swap that the NRL won’t budge on.

Latrell as a centre awesome as a fullback fitness and positional play will likely see him moved halfway theough the year
bj and douhie good bys for price

His attacking plays will keep him in the job, and cause less concern for his mistakes in defence. I wonder if that’s why he has been over reacting/rag dolling in the tackles? He needs to stop reading the papers and focus on his game. What a wonderful player he will be for Souths. Unfortunately we had no chance of signing him but we needed to try.

No, actually, the Storm **can’t** budge as it stands and so with their hands tied - in my opinion - will look to hold the player to contract

He has asked for a release, same as JAC, and they have refused both of them.

Sharks too with Morris.

Only because they are depleted through injury. Once they get troops back he’ll be released.

So Sharks, Storm and Eels are holding players who expressed that they don't want to be there, until such a time as it's convenient for the clubs to release them, or conversely retain them for their contract. Hopefully we do the same in the future.
