Why has the Magpie Stayed

_The Wests Tigers have been around longer than I have so honestly I couldn't care less whether it is there or not but I would just like to know why it has stayed on the sleeve? The club is named "Wests Tigers" I understand that Wests has come from Wests Magpies and Tigers has come from Balmain Tigers. Seeing there is no Magpie in the name why is it still on the jersey? Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies are gone, finished, history. We are now the Wests Tigers and I don't think there is any reason that the Magpie should be there._

It's to keep the Magpie Factions happy. (Ps I bet you this thread gets atleast 4 pages)

But the club is about moving forward, we are building towards a future, we aren't Wests Magpies anymore so why has it stayed? It doesn't make sense to me.

The Magpie on the sleeve is to show that we are a joint-venture with the Magpies. Imagine if your team had to join with another team and be called the Wests Bulldogs wouldn't you want to have something to show that you where once the Wests Tigers. In about 70 years when all the Western Suburbs/Balmain Dinosaurs die off then we will finally be able to move forward.

Case closed, good job guys.

It is because everyone associates the club with Balmain such as Leichhardt Oval being called the club's spiritual home.

Leichardt was Magpies home ground?

Funny… Tigersman and Milky, both around the same age, one though new understands the old, not via being there but via compassion.... the other naieve and totally devoid of compassion...

Wests Tigers plays Manly on the weekend, a rivalry old and nasty from yesteryear... We rock up at Souths, and we live and die by yet another old time rivalry....

If you buy the rivalry, you buy the history... both sides... the problem isnt that there are 2 clubs... the problem is that clubs like Manly and Soufscum want to out passion us... My Magpies fight, backs my Tiger brother to the hilt... We are known for fighting each other, not for fighting together against a common enemy... foolish.

The Maggie on the shoulder is leveling it out to some small degree. I make no secret I'd love the Pies to be back but I know it ain't gonna happen even if Ashfield takeover the club after Balmain can't pay back their debt to the league.

when they say the spiritual home being leichhardt it's referring to the 'tiger's element not western suburbs obviously.

wasn't the magpie going on the shoulder part of the joint venture agreement?

in time i think it will be only one logo when the old fogies are gone. wests ashfield can pour all the money in the world into the club and the main tiger logo will never change, it will be club suicide if they do in a marketing perspective. being a very recognised brand trying to pump up another magpies team when there is a powerhouse in the afl under the same banner would be too hard.

i think the afl have it right with the old club initials on the back neck of the jerseys, having two logos on a jersey looks silly imo.

If you don't "care less if it's there or not " why post about it and start this whole thread ?

Isn't Miss Helena actually married to someone from the Wests board (or former member ) Staks ?? :roll :roll :roll

The sooner Balmange die off the better. The sooner we base ourselves out West the better. One end of this JV is pulling their weight right now and the other is broke.

I am so sick of the clubs legends being roach, sirro, elias. They never played for Wests Tigers. The legends of this club are Skando, Benji, Hodgson.

Ok then since it will be here for another 70 years let it go. It was part of the joint venture agreement and no chance it will be changing. Wests Ashfield are paying the bills and we have people bringing this up…unbelievable
