Why Maguire is the man the Wests Tigers need

Haha Madge is a loose unit ! That’s funny . That’s like Warren Ryan levels of craziness. And I’m not gonna lie , if that was my coach I’d be knee deep in yes. Maybe I’m off my head , but in another life we used to have someone in charge like that , and man did we all enjoy having him in charge . Despite how clearly unhinged he was

Anyone that thinks Madge won't be extended for another 1-2 years by the end of the season has got rocks in their head!

Personally I hope you are right

Would have thought the better man managers adapt their style to get the best out of the individual players rather than the my way or the highway approach...

If all it took was smashing up Brookvale with a bat we could just get Tommy in to smash an OX heart on the table before every game…

Works on both ends Geo, you know that.

I think Madge's point, if you asked him, would be that the roster hasn't been radically overhauled recently (to achieve a certain style of roster) and the Tigers player have had a long time to achieve their best. Maybe it's time for us to lean more towards the "my way / highway" approach rather than "softly softly".

For instance, does Bellyache get the best out of his players, or is he very good at buying the players he wants to fit his system? I don't hear stories about Melbourne Storm or Raiders or Roosters players doing their own thing outside of the coach's mandate. And I also don't believe for a minute that Bellyache, Robinson, Bennett or Ricky Stuart don't hold the reins very very tightly in their respective clubs.

I've been reading all week about how Ricky Stuart, associated with his 400th game, is mad as a cut snake, hates everyone and argues about everything. Yet lo, there is he is at the GF last year.

He’s helped improve plenty of guys particularly our forwards. A lot of them are playing at a higher level than ever. Still a ways to go but you can see them developing

This is a fair assessment especially when Madge is the one that’s extended the contracts of several plodders .

I guess the bottom line is that everyone knows Madge's expectations......if you get in there, try your guts out and do your job then you won't get any problems from him. I'm not sure why players are surprised by this??

And if they dont wanna do it then why do we want them. You win premierships based off hard work just ask roosters or Melbourne

There is a common theme for players that improve under Madge. Nofa, Aloai, Twal, Mikalele, luch. All have aggression and physical presence and power. It’s noticeable that players that are plodders or don’t have that toughness to them are on the outer. McQueen, ET, Eiso, Jennings, Packer, Lawrence, Benji.

We just need younger and physically dominant athletes and Madge can work with these players.
I can see this in recruitment Blore, Stefano, Kei and others. Our cap is a mess for 2-3 years by that time a lot of these younger players will be at the top of their games and a lot of dead wood will be cut.

Tigers have to see this through and by then hopefully we are talking about big names as recruits to supplement the squad not help us win.

Madge said on interviews, when he came on board, that his time away allowed him to reflect on how he does his job. All these are historical stories (except for Matto - which Robbie said was money)....

I'd say that he might have steered away from the more aggressive approaches to man-management now.

That’s such BS, to assume that we (you) understand the heart of the issue at Souths, that the players were right and the coach was not, or that the coach was specifically too hard and they gave up.

I seem to recall that one of our colleagues who is related to a current Souths player who played under Madge, said that stories that Madge lost the dressing room were garbage. In fact, Madge was well liked by the players.

If my memory serves, his Souths relative said that Seibold was white-anting Madge and that it was Seibold who was disliked by the players, not Madge.

Madge is just what we need. We can talk about top 8 for this year, but looking at our roster we have one of the weakest squads in the NRL. I think madge has realised he won’t be getting any superstars anytime soon and has invested in bringing the best young talent to the club. I would rather have a slow climb up the ladder to eventually be a title contender then finish 7th or 8th with absolutely no hope of winning anything.

Cannot agree on you're assessment of toughness on some of those players... Probably all
You don't make first grade if you ain't tough.
Recall benji playing half a game with a broken cheekbone... Just stop and think and imagine have a broken face and running into blokes of 100kg + wanting to hammer you
Rowdy coming back from his face smashed on had a dozen players... 100kg+ blokes etc etc
McQueen/serious neck injury... Running at blokes 100kg etc

Just a few examples of many

Can't call them not tough

Most players are tough but there are levels. I was meaning tough, fit, fast and strong players. Just better athletes perform better under him.
Playing with heart is not good enough when another team that’s bigger, fitter, faster, stronger get plays with heart you have a mismatch.

Madge will change our culture OR be gone in a year IMO.

Bashing up a dressing room at Manly would have fired up the Burgess brothers, and all those things Madge did would get senior / tough vets ready to win.

Our blokes though? Brooks, MBye? Our pack? Most probably giggled.

Madge's style suits tough, winning, vets.

Let's hope we either get some or that some of ours actually toughen up...

bashing in a room in Brookvale Oval would've improved it greatly to be fair......

did he happen to Bash the field at the time as well?

cause the field looks like 10000 fans have been to town on it with bats

I like Brookie - always like watching games there.

Obviously you don't.

Have been told the same - but people will always form their own opinions.
