Why Nathan Cleary was never heading to the WT's

Thing I found weird was him saying he never talked to the Tigers. He was under contract until 1st Nov and I believe re-signed with Panthers before that date. So Tigers couldn't talk to him.

Surprised that there's still a head left on that axe you're grinding Byron.

Listen mate, spot on, I reverted to the maducka and zhurin years ago.

Come back with that worked out and I will buy you an arak that is excellent for toothaches

For those going on about 'loyalty' - get off your high horse.

Coaches and players have no loyalty. It's a job. They go to the highest bidder.

They aren't fans like us.

For those that look at life that way, yes, but certainly not that way for all. Not everyone is self centered and greedy.

Own your decisions. Take responsibility for your actions.
Far out - In the Cleary household they believe they were the victims and now its over and we all just move on.
As far as I am aware Cleary senior still hasn’t apologised to or even recognised the fans. That’s unaustralian. His actions were selfish and poor in the extreme and he has to carry that forever. But I really don’t think he cares - maybe when he’s lying in bed at night.

Ivan doesn't care mate. The jeers and insults might sting the first game we play against the Panthers, especially if we win, but he's locked down for five years, Nathan is locked down for six. They are laughing all the way to the bank. He'll learn to deal with the hate that Wests fans will deal out to him.

We came out OK, got a better coach and some financial compo out of it, the last laugh to be had is to enjoy a premiership while they don't at Penrith.

Yeah I know - you’re right. Judy’s annoys me they don’t feel Ivan Cleary did anything wrong.
And I agree - I think we are better off with Maguire

Oh I agree Steve, don't get me wrong he did the screwjob on us and we deserved an apology for what he did, but the truth is that we won't get it, and he'll have the last laugh really as he is set for life now.

Yep. Let’s just hope we have more onfield success hey!

he loves rubbing the salt in the wound ay

Nathan- "hahaha Tigers u dont have anyone in SOO and panthers do, and im in there nah nah nana nah"….................

I think this just confirms what a few have said - in one extreme, if we give the Cleary Clan the brains to work the situation - they got exactly what they wanted and planned for - long very lucrative contracts for both Cleary's - sets the family up for life ~ $10M over 5 years was mooted

Or secondly, if you don't give credit them with that much brain power, they used the situation they found themselves in and reaped a windfall.

I have no problem with NC staying, i like loyalty (same as Cook staying at Souffs, I like it)

Either way, its all good as IMHO IC set some good systems and thought processes in place and we have now secured a better coach than previously - lets face it, we have been a basket case for a while now and i think IC contributed to making the WT a better place and positioned us for a better quality coach and players than we have had for the last 5-6 years (along with Board/CEO)

Last item Im writing on the Clery era, will give him as much brain space as I do MP or JT - I'm all about the future and Madge now…...,

His only confirming what a lot of Wests Tigers supporters were already suspecting was the case with Nathan Cleary. What I don’t understand is why Ivan took the job with us if he knew deep down his son wasn’t going to be coming.
Oh well it’s worked out well for all parties so it’s wasnt the worse thing to occur.

Maybe he thought it's good for him to get back into the coaching swing of things initially…. You could suggest - to use a cricket term- he was getting his eye in?

I honestly don't think so.
As people said of Benji, what would he do if his brother got taken out on the field?

Ivan said he had to handover the entire reigns to the coaching staff when they VS Penrith. Cmon, that is a very bad position for us to be in. Ivan loves his kid, he is not going to tell Packer or Twal to put a heavy hit on his boy. But he is not going to be thinking this as his signing the WT contract.

Now Nathan has become a sensation. But no one knows how a rugby career will develop. Maybe at Penrith he would have only been average? Instead the guy turns into a gun (or gunnish, I expect Mitchell Pearce will find form and NSW selectors will pick Pearce again for game 1 because hey he is experienced and you can't beat his form*). Had Nathan been more average I could have seen Penrith trying to poach Brooks from us and our fans screaming we don't want Nathan.

Were Pareto Optimal, the best outcome considering the circumstances. For once our halves have enough 5/8 and Halfbacks, we would have struggled to find a 1 million contract for Nathan. Brooks is less strategic but more energetic, honestly I like him and would take him over Cleary (though both are awesome halfbacks).

*Yes and I will be screaming at the TV when they do it.

Geo what's with your signature?
"Wests Tigers don't need a Coach.. The playing group has taken over.."

Was that a JT or Mick Potter Quote?

Honestly looking at how Penrith threw out Griffin, before the finals no less. I don't think the statement is fair on us Now.
Did Nathan Cleary organise that? Did the Penrith team do it to keep Cleary?

The Player group is not in charge anymore, and I pity the poor player that tries this with Madge.

Karma will do its thing here.

Save your ire, wasted energy.

Totally agree. Both Clearys are dead to us and arguably the final outcome for Tigers is even better, now that the dust has settled.

That would be karma personified, and funny as 😛ray:

Cone on Penrith have obviously known for a very long time Ivan was coming back ,and knew Nathan was staying

I think we all need to come to that realization , this was planned far in advance
