We expect loyalty because the fans are more than just financially invested, we are emotionally invested. Anything negative that happens to our club or favourite players is interpreted as a wrong against us. That's the parochialism of Rugby League. The fans haven't changed, the game has.
Yeah , youte right, most loyalty comes from the fans who in a lot of cases stay loyal to a club for life, but some seem to expect players to be loyal to their club as well.
I find it interesting that players are considered to be good people if they make decisions that we like and the ones who don’t, get regarded as being bad people, even though most of us wouldn’t have a clue what either player Is really like,
We can’t really say whether a player stays at our club because he was handed a lucrative TPA, or because he is a nice religious boy who goes to church two times a week and lLoves the club”.
While we look at a favourite player and see what a nice person he is, I’d still bet that a really handy TPA or some other inducement would have most most players having a long look at
The bottom line, ( and why shouldn’t they)
We’ve all seen time and time over, clubs will shaft anyone if it suits them , players are no different,
What looks like loyalty today , is often found out later on , Something entirely different.
Fans are not objective about most things in the NRL. The colour of a jumper can change things in the blink of an eye.
A lot on here we’re advocating Nathan breaking his contract a year early to come here. That was no problem. Suddenly Ivan breaks his contract 2 years early and he’s Ivan the terrible, a bad person with no morals.
