Will we make the 8 in 2019?

To make the eight you have to beat seven teams past the post and that will be a big ask. I know every year there are climbers and sliders, but looking at all the teams it’s hard to see us being in the 8 without a couple of top notch recruits

no mid season slumps

On face value, I think we will sneak in, only because I believe our starting 17 will be better next year with a quality second row signing, and judging by the reports, Momirovski will also be a good addition (granted he has limited time in FG,) plus the mystery forward that the Pom has previously alluded to.

There are a lot of variables though. Reynolds staying fit is also key to the season not totally derailing. It will also be interesting to see how Madge approaches the bench, will he be asking 80 minutes of his hooker? If we bring a power game in our forwards, the best of Brooks may yet to be seen also.

I'm hopeful. but realistically….

Too much experience has walked out the door. The guys who have left might not been forum favorites, but we've lost 300+ games of experience and that counts for a lot.

And as far as I can see, there aren't any superstars coming up through the ranks to take their place.

Other bottom eight clubs seem to have recruited better than us. That's always a worry.

I think we'll struggle but I'd love to be wrong.

Not while Packerlino are our Props.
Or
ET
Rochow
Eiso
Garlic mayo
Fonua

Spend big amounts of time on the park.

The WTs over achieved this year and in saying that we still lost 5 or so games that were there for the taking by a more mature club.

Parra
Bulldogs
Dragons
Newcastle in Tamworth

We need to learn to beat the teams that we should beat.

Need a few more heavy hitters and it's a possibility.

As present, no.

took the words right out of my mouth, will add if we sign Hayne and he performs

Odd I did not see Hayne as a "heavy hitter". I do see him like NIgel Vagana maybe Ingles in the days of old. Dangerous in a team where they can be ignored (see Melbourne or QLD origin) pref on the wing. Useless if they are the star.

We do need heavy hitters and forwards that will go forward. If we get someone like Trent Merrin or Paul Vaughan (ok dreaming) we would be able to see what our backs can do. At the moment I don't see them getting enough space.

So here is the 16,
I don't see 1-7 not being in the 8\. Rabbits will be a little shaken and maybe Cook will get injured, but I think they will be there. Likewise Sharks and Storm, they will go down but will still be there.
Dragons will be in the 8 I think. Warriors won't be if they loose Johnson. If the knights get Klemmer and Pearce stays fit they will probably enter and I think they are our biggest competition for spot 8.

1 Roosters
2 Storm
3 Rabbitohs
4 Sharks
5 Panthers
6 Broncos
7 Dragons
8 Warriors
9 Wests Tigers
10 Raiders
11 Knights
12 Bulldogs
13 Cowboys
14 Titans
15 Sea Eagles
16 Eels

consistency will either get us in or out of the 8.

Last year the "experts" had Cowboys and Eels to make top 4 how did that go?
Every year teams dont make the 8 who people consider to be certainties. We were considered to be "spooners" this year 7 "better" teams finished behind us including some of the top tips.Nothing is guaranteed

exactly, i mentioned this before, that we defied expectations this year to not only win in matches against some great teams when all odds were against us, but also to finish 9th which is 5 places better than wat people thought we were gonna come

I will wait and see who the two players are before making my decision. If it was Tapau/JWH and say Hayne, I would say Yes.

no.
I think there is more improvement in the teams who finished below us in 2018.
cant see any team dropping out of the top 8 from 2018,either.
hope springs eternal,of course.

I agree, if the last two are quality then we're are a chance.

Really. I can see improvement in the knights if they get Klemmer.

But Manly I see nothing. Titans will do better but not too different. Cowboys will improve a little but they are loosing a lot of players, Eels well a slight roster boost but they have big issues and the Bulldogs were looking a little better till Klemmer wanted to leave.

I am optimistic. McGuire is going to take a little bit of time to settle into the role. But we have a fairly good spine Farah, Brooks, Reynolds… ok 3/4 ain't bad.

Our biggest issue is go forward. Swapping Sue for Ryan Matherson and loosing the depth of Grant, well I think we are weaker up front.
