North Queensland appears to be Willie Mason's last hope for an NRL lifeline after Manly announced it won't make an offer for the Sydney Roosters forward.

While the Sea Eagles showed initial interest, Manly chief executive Graham Lowe on Wednesday said the club's management was not interested in contracting Mason, who does not fit into the Roosters' 2010 plans.

"We are content with the squad we have and are confident of a successful season," Lowe said in a club statement.

"The club is eager to move on from the speculation of Mason joining the club and is continuing to work hard in preparation for the season ahead."

It's been reported Cowboys officials met with Mason's management in North Queensland this week about the prospect of signing him cheaply.

have wt officially commented on mason? i thought we said no a week or so ago if so should move this thread out of here, can not stand mason!

Former Kangaroos teammate Lote Tuqiri, who is set to rejoin the NRL this year after a stint with British rugby union club Leicester, expressed sympathy for Mason's predicament through his Twitter feed. ''Does anyone back in Oz have compassion for 1 of the most maligned athletes in Oz sport, Willie Mason? Why kick a dog when he's already down,'' Tuqiri posted.
 
We are nuts to not be taking him, sheens will keep him under raps, more expedrience for our young forward pack and again sheens doesnt let anyone talk to the media. he pissed on a wall for heavens sake after a few beers…..who hasnt done that before???? lol

The Tigers withdrew their interest for a reason. Anyone that think Mason will be beneficial for the club is kidding themselves.
 
Whilst WESTS TIGERS may have withdrawn their interest …...... will Wilie appear in a TIGERS jersey in 2010 (maybe a Balmain Tigers jersey). I have mail that Benny Elias is trying to facilitate a deal that would see Willie join the Tigers.

Could we see him closer to Wests Tigers than we think??????????????
 
As a longtime supporter of the tigers going back to the sixties i certainly hope not.Over the years the majority of the players who have worn the black and gold are men i have the utmost respect for.There have been some who have been a disgrace for various reasons and i do not want another in Mason.
 
tigers have a good reputation for their players not being in trouble ( minus laurie and new recruit taumata ). if signing him it will only get bad publicity and turn other fans against us.
