Willie Mason [Discussion]

Big Mason might be doing well in another club atm , the minute we sign him up he will end up retiring at our club after joining the injured veterans club we have.
I dont think its a good idea funding any more retirees .. ( On our playing roster ie)

Very true - Mason is highly overrated by many on here for some reason - desperation perhaps? He has hardly set the world on fire, since returning to the NRL, people!

I remember when Lawrence axed Mason when he was at the Cowboys. Was awesome.

We are barely going to lose a player and when we were uninjured this year we were carving the best teams in the comp up. We'll be alright, just gotta have some luck. For 2016 we need to cut a bunch of injury prone players though and sign up some average to good players who are known as durable.

Has a good game very now and then, the rest of the time bog average.

For that reason alone he is NOT what our young guys need around them.

I agree with most things said about Mason but I think these last couple of years under Bennett have changed him for the better. He doesn't appear to be the destabilising influence like his days at the Bulldogs or Rooters.

The only thing that I will say about Mason is that he will come cheap. The nature of the beast when you have a few elite players in the squad taking up 80% of cap space.

Yes, we have tried these types before and have been let down but we don't have too many options. We will go for these types every year unfortunately.

Its not the way forward for our club. Willie has done very well for the Knights, but he is way to old and his career is on the wind down.

Going out on a limb here but I reckon big free willie mason could be a good buy for us.

Especially if we could get him cheap. He wants to play one more year desperately.

I reckon we could get him cheap like 150k a year. The amount of go forward and experience he could give us of the bench would be excellent for the club and team.

I know he is old but I reckon he could offer us so much. Thoughts?

The horse has bolted. We had our chance, but he was beneath the sponsors and a lot of supporters, so we picked up razor Ray instead. Played about 5 games, wooo

What's the point of introducing a player for 1 year? By the time he gels with the team the contract would end.

Stick to young blood or those worth the coin in their prime. No more bandages for quick fixes.

Somehow I dont see us all of a sudden signing players that ARE setting the world on fire.
Thats not how we operate

This year has set us back a few peg, a lot of good works been undone….it shouldve been three years minimum since Potter arrived but I think our timeframe to climb the ladder has been extended.

Not sure on Willy, we'd just bring him down to our level....no one player is going to make a world of difference to us

I agree with yeti, our players shouldnt have anything to do with recruitment unless asked their opinion

Everyone needs to take an ice bath.

Mason has a terrible track record of ruining club cultures.

Just go back to previous clubs… He is not the senior player that will develop junior players. He never has and he never will. Perhaps he has just been unlucky three times. Even if that is the case it is not worth the risk that it's not just a coincidence.

Our single focus is our young guns. Keep it that way.

No thanks. Tries hard and big. All that's fine.

Gap is he wont develop those around him in the right way.

If we are going to get a mentor type senior forward then get one who has a good track record.
