Word has it that a number of Wests Tigers board members are having second thoughts about their decision not to sign controversial forward Willie Mason after talks with the former Bulldogs and Roosters star broke down last week.

We hear that tensions were high at a board meeting last night – their decision not helped by the side’s 1-3 start to the year and Monday night’s shock loss to Canberra.

Mason, meanwhile, may still be thrown an NRL lifeline after meeting with two other clubs this week.

There’s a cone of silence around which clubs they are as all parties don’t want the latest talks exposed in the press, as was the case with the Tigers.

An announcement is expected as early as next week. Stay tuned…

Yo, long time reader, lifetime Tiger and first time poster…

Sponsors, although important, should have no say in who the team signs. That is the coach's job. That we passed up a good opportunity in order to keep our "squeaky-clean" image intact is the signifier of the problem.

From a business perspective I can't agree. Sponsors withdraw cash - club goes broke. By the way, twice in this thread I have voted to sign Willy.

Yeah, I just checked that out and Mason said that he was spewing because he thought it was all sorted out last week and is saying that something should be sorted out by this week (talking to Lote). I'm guessing it is something to do with the tigers as Lote states that he isn't sure of what's going on.

i think the fans and the sponsors who said no to mason may just be thinking ,oh no ellis out for possible 12 weeks , this will take us to 3/4 into the season , wooppss better grab him now , the club must move now
