If Woods does end up staying at Tigers, as unlikely as it is, the positive for all parties would be that the rationale is easily digested - salary cap burden due to over-investment by Canterbury. Dogs can blame the NRL for taking so long to finalise the 2018 cap, NRL can push back that Dogs really shouldn't have spent in advance of the final number, Woods can say he wanted to go to Canterbury but understands their new salary cap burdens, and Woods can also say he's pleased to stay at Tigers due to his developing strong relationship with the new coach (who had barely started when he decided to leave).
Everyone can spin it for a week and there'd be minimal controversy, most Dogs fans would be alright that he doesn't come and most Tigers fans would take Woods back, because he has partially redeemed himself for a lot of Tigers fans.
And hopefully for Tigers, if Woods comes back, we are in a stronger bargaining position and don't have to outlay the same stupid coin he was originally after.
