World cup

think its the other way around guys, satellite viewers get all fta channels but not cable subscribers.

Something along the lines of the TV stations not wanting to pay for those channels to be accessible by cable, and fox not being bothered to pay or it either. Only HD was deemed worth of the cost as it's considered the future. Satellite and set top boxes use similar technology so it works out for those customers.

I could buy a set top box but then I'd have to try record the games as they're all in the middle of the night. All that to watch international rugby league, it's just not worth it.

May have watched a few of the games with the Islander teams or NZ, but really that's about it.

7mate outbid Foxtel, so that's it. The powers at be really don't care about the fans. Anyone with a real interest in league has Foxtel so they can watch lots of the games, yet something like 90% of Foxtel subscribers won't have 7mate. The casual league fan won't give a stuff if Tonga is playing Wales at 4am so it really doesn't make sense for to not be on Fox!! [/end rant]

Yeah me too. I'm on satellite and I basically get one HD channel per FTA channel (I think it's GO, 7-Two, ABC-2 and Eleven. Oh probably SBS-2 as well). Why? Buggered if I know…

So they're more or less not playing the matches to the largest market in the world that will watch it? Good one, RLWC

Pretty poor isn't it. You would think it would rate highly even if they were replays. It would be great in a Friday/Saturday night to kick back and watch the games. A replay would be better than half the crap that's on normal tv these days.

I just discovered I have the channel… Because it's an HD channel you need foxtel HD I think...

I'm confused, doesn't everyone get FTA. that's the point right?

i dont have foxtel or satelite.

Your TV needs to be HD , even if you have a set top box it must be HD compatible

If its SD it won't get some Channels

Aren't all modern tvs HD, cause i remember a few years ago with the transitioning to freeview every tv after that had a set top box installed.

You could get set top boxes that were standard def

That would explain why you could get some channels but not others

My wifes Auntie was in those shoes

Cable foxtel or satellite foxtel?

Cable. I think. There's no satellite near my roof so I assume so.

I only have Foxtel IQ2 at my place (couldn't see the point in installing an antenna,) and all FTA stations are SD.

I only get SBS1 & 2, ABC1 & 2, 7 & 7two, 9 & GO, 10 and 11.

i dont have foxtel or satelite.

Foxtel subscribers only get access to the FTA channels Foxtel volunteers to provide for free.

From Foxtel on Facebook "not all FTA channels give broadcasting rights to Foxtel. As open broadcast channels are something we provide for free and is not part of your subscription you would need to take up with them [the actual channels]."

So basically we would have to upgrade to an HD package, or fiddle around with separate devices and cables to get access to what we should already have..!

But whether you have Foxtel or not , as long as you have a HD TV it would be just a matter of switching your Foxtel off and you should be able to get Channel 73 or 7 mate as it is called

At worst you would just have to auto tune your TV , but I have both so if I switch off my Foxtel off all the regular TV channels automatically return as they are pre tuned

However if you don't have a HD TV or a HD tuner , your royally screwed You can pick up a HD tuner for less than $100

The other option which is more expensive is to buy a hard drive digital recorder (which we have )

Comes in handy when you want to record stuff that you keep on hard drive ( or disc if you want ) Panasonic have one for about $400 that has about 500 hours of recording space and it acts as your HD tuner as well

We use it for kids movies , movies , sports events etc Very handy in my opinion

Hope this helps

Thought 7mate was meant to replay all the games, so far, the only game I'm seeing replayed is the England v Aus game

Yeah I have the live game times, but I thought 7mate was then going to replay all the games at more reasonable times on Sundays
