Would you take Todd Carney at the Tigers?

I`m a fan of Robert Lui, but with rumours that Lui might be considering moving to a Queensland based club, Carney would be ideal to play halfback for us.
He`s not an alcoholic, an alcoholic is someone who is drunk every day of the week.
The Roosters playing group who decided to impose an alcohol ban for 2 weeks this late in the season when they are no hope of making the finals and after playing terribly all season are off their heads.

Vicious the definition of an alcoholic is not someone who is necessarily drunk every day (although they probably are)
The definition of a drunk is someone when they stop drinking notice that they have stopped drinking It can be someone who may have 3-4 coldies work after who stops and phsyically notices they aren't having those 3-4 after work at his local

Carney is not an alcoholic….An alco is someone who can not function without the sauce. I have worked on building sites (residential) with a few of these types and they roll up to work hungover as a dog and continue drinking as the day goes on. An alco doesnt have 6 drinks every day after work....they have 6 drinks DURING work hours, followed by more after and sometimes some before.

They need it.

They arent rolling drunk either...they stay on a plateau for hours and function pretty normally. I know a painter who has whiskey in his coffee first thing, then hits the cans around smoko. By knockoff he has had half a dozen more and then goes home to finish the job. He's in bed (passed out) by 9 and back on site ready to do it all again by 7\. He does this every day.....

What Carney is, is a binge drinker who cant handle his piss and we most certainly do not need that kind of germ associated with this club. If he was here, he would eventually corrupt some of our young blokes as he did at the Raiders and now Roosters.

Wow… While I'm not surprised the general consensus is no, I feel a few of you are branding him a bit harshly.

From what I have seen or read about Todd Carney over the past 18months, he isn't either an Alcoholic or a Binge Drinker. While he may of had challengers in the past, I don't recall any major problems in this last period outside of Stupidity. In the last incident he blew over the legal limit the night after a big drink (stupidity), and this current incident he went out for a few quiet drinks with a few mates while on a team imposed alcohol ban (stupidity/poor form). If anything, judging by some of his behaviors in the past, he seems to be improving and has his naughty alcohol behavior under control.

Obviously this is a situation where mud sticks, but both incidents have shown me that Todd Carney is working hard, while trying to be a normal bloke. I certainly don't begrudge the guy for his efforts and I think he has alot to offer as a football talent...

He told the courts he was an alcoholic when he pleaded for leniency earlier this year…

The thing is Watto is he makes all of these stupid decisions SOBER and he doesn't learn from his mistakes I'm sure I read he said while he enjoyed his time at the Atherton Roosters he didn't want to go back there . Doesn't he realize that if he keeps performing these acts of ill discipline eventually The CEO Noyce , Politis and or even Gallop will say 'See you later ,Todd " and that will be that .
He won't get a visa for England to play ESL and can't see ARU touching him with a ten foot pole .
I love watching him play at his best , but he shouldn't be getting treated differently from less talented players

No no no no no
disruptive, self centred loser who in my humble opinion is extremely over rated. Wouldn't have won the DM last year if it wasn't for a freakish run of good luck by the chooks and the soppy handwringing wankers of the media who talked him up all year because of his "redemption". He doesn't care about footy or his team mates - he plays because he cant do anything else but drink. After winning the DM last year and being in a losing GF, he had everything to play for this year - Origin, Aussies, a GF win - unlike any decent footballer in his position, they would have been motivated - his selfishness and self centred attitude has bubbled back to the surface - he should be gone from the NRL and never seen again. It is up to him to sort out his personal life not the club or the NRL.

He's been told time and time again to not drink, to not be seen out etc, yet has not learned from past mistakes, that's the problem. He's high profile, he has members of the press and public watching him. Yes that's a crap situation and I personally think he should be able to live his own life, but that's not going to happen when the papers need some dirt to print.

Would it be worth taking him on given the very fact he's either not learning or refusing to learn? Overall, the answer should be no.

The guy has issues - sometimes I don't think people realise how serious alcoholism is.

I wouldn't want him anywhere near this great club - unless of course his ways were to change.

who would want carney now anyway no matter how good he was the constant circus and baggage that surrounds him is definitely not worth the hassle. he's an alco.

I think with the events of the past week, Carney going out again, then the Roosters winning without him, it's shown a few things.
1\. Carney, whilst he finally may be able to handle himself on the drink, still can't go without it
2\. His football career doesn't really matter to him, best player in the game last year, Australian rep and a grand finalist, yet he doesn't seem motivated this year
3\. The Roosters probably don't need him that badly, he probably needs them more
4\. It could (and probably should) be curtains on Todd's career in the NRL.

Not in his current state, no. He has too many issues to deal with and is not being given the proper support to deal with them. He needs time away from the week to week grind of the NRL if he's ever going to sort himself out IMO.
