Would you take Todd Carney at the Tigers?

Im certainly no expert, but i actually wonder if Carney does have a problem with alcohol. Does he drink at home alone? He seems to always be out in the public eye drinking when he knows word will get around…...so im thinking his desire isnt so much for alcohol itself, its more that he's addicted to the good time nightlife.

I think this needs to be determined before working out what needs to be done for the guy. And before anyone says Todd has admitted he's an alcoholic, that doesnt mean anything.......those are the things you say when your facing the sack and looking to save your job. I can tell u right now, if i was caught drinking at work, the first thing id say is im an alcoholic....it saves your job straight away and counsiling is provided.

Theres one common denominator in all his incidents.
If it affects your status, your job, your friends and relationships, if it gets you in trouble with the law, health (give it time)…take that one common denominator away and he doesnt have this drama.
There are **many** types of alcoholics

Once again im pleading ignorance to an extent here, but i thought an alcoholic was someone who was addicted to alcohol?

I see your point that maybe theres different types and when alcohol is the common dominator in causing someones problem you could call that alcholism…....but you could also argue the one common dominator is the need to be in a social enviroment having a good time....not neccerssarily the need for the body to obtain alcohol....not sure im explaining that the way i want but im pretty sure you'll see where im coming from even if i am wrong, as its a subject only those directely affected by could acurately assess.

My point is im not sure Todd is addicted to alcohol, i think he's addicted to the social life

x 2 Ink he has issues with alcohol There are a lot of alcoholics out there that don't realise they are alcoholics Because they aren't living in the gutter drinking goons doesn't necessarily mean they aren't alcoholics

I think in the past when he's been on the wagon he's gone out and drank water…Im pretty sure it was reported at least once....but there was nothing to really report, just a non story on him not drinking.

I think this is how most alcoholics begin in these social situations, lets not forget he is high profile, loaded etc...He is only young and hasnt been drinking for long I assume, give him time and I imagine he could develop a real reliance on it....the bearde old boy on the park bench is the end of the line, hes just hopping on the train.

Send him over here to Perth, let him have a couple of years dominating the local comp, and then he can be our marquee signing when the Reds enter the NRL in 2013/15\. It's not exactly like there's anything to do over here, so he'd be bored to the point of having to focus on his footy anyway.

100%. Lui is as good as gone, no moltzen, and an old hard head father figure like Sheens to pull him into line. I think he would make a great addition. Move him in with Marshall so he can learn how to carry himself in public better and I think you would see him come of age at the Tigers.

While I think Todd is a talent, so does he and uses it to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants

From a football point of view would be a good pick up if in fact Lui makes a exit from Concord, but in reality the club will not go anywhere near him, the risks out weigh the gains, You dont replace a brand name killer with another one. The tigers probably put more work into promoting their brand name and values than any other club.

As for Carney I reckon he has become a target and is not half the Dhead he is made out to be, the media sell a lot of newspapers pulling him through the mud. Okay he gives them some amo, but they like to build it up in order to sell papers

I'm on holidays in Phuket atm
Carney was on our flight over with 3 other mates.
If I see him again I'll ask him if he's found a club yet.

Also seen a couple of other NRL players here too

Funny @ the start of the year we had three half backs & at the moment we look to only have one, Miller has a stack of potential BUT he needs another year of lower grades with a taste of first grade every now & again. We have to find another first grade halfback if we loose Lui, bugger pushing Farah to half & finding another hooker we need a first grade halfback.

P.S yes i would sign Carney but on strict terms & conditions.

That will hardly make a difference given his track record to date.

Answer this ,fifth tackle up by two with 4 minutes to go in a major semi. What would a real number 7 do .Yes he would kick the tripe out of the ball and then either pin them in their10 or maybe 20 . or it goes dead in goal.No not the Tigers,we give it back to them on the 50 .Our biggest problem is our main playmakers cant get the easy calls right. For that reason i would take on carney.
Whats his crimes? H e binge drinks like 99% of guys his age.He hasnt hurt anybody except himself
I also believe the captaincy should be discussed ,with Gareth Ellis being given the nod .

always amused at people who say that Carney has a drinking problem when they probably drink ,more & more often than he does . lucky glass houses arent the australian standard .

Also funny that the NRL & its clubs make a large part of their revenue from alcohol & gambling sponsorships , also pokie revenue from licensed clubs … previously the naming rights to the competition were for a tobacco company . But they want their players to be role models for society .... maybe the NRL could take the lead in that dance ...

from all reports Carney has never missed a training session from being drunk & has never turned up drunk to training . if he was an alcoholic he wouldve done both of those things more than once . Alcoholics put the bottle before family , friends , work ... basically everything .

if Lui is gone & Moltz isnt coming back then I'd sign Carney in a heartbeat .

Vlad I will correct you
Carney showed up drunk to a training session mid season about a week before the Anthony Watts situation
That was the other reason he was stood down in the end
The club have kept it quiet and I only found it through someone who knows an insider from the Roosters
Some on the Forum also know this as I PMed them about this 2 days before he was stood down

The way I see it is, what's the point of getting rid of Lui to sign Carney?
To me it'd look hypocritical.
