Would you take Todd Carney at the Tigers?

Channel 10 sport showed Carney at the airport returning from his overseas holiday and he said he had offers from 4 or 5 clubs to go through with his Mum and Manager. The only club mentioned though was the Titans who have offered him $70k per year over 3 years. I don't think he'll be too excited by that offer.

He looked & sounded out of it, and the dropkicks that were with him …LOL

$70k per year that might be on the back of what the roosters owe him.

nope, that is all they have offered him.

basically saying they'll risk it at league minimum (or just above) if no one else wants him.

It would make no sense signing carney and sacking Lui from a sponsors pov. Also it will ultimately be left up to the senior players group if he is signed. Benji and farah stopped him from signing in 09 doubt their feelings towards him have changed

in that case, not a bad move by the titans if they are saying to Carney, noone else wants you, we'll give you a go if you want to take it, but to show you are in some way fair dinkum prove it by playing for minimum to get your career back and by the way if you stuff up we can cut you and haven't lost much- puts the onus back on Carney and the ball is in his court so to speak.

Oh so players have the final say do they? OK

Whats to stop them from backflipping, weve just seen Moltzen go - stay - go - pirhouette and curtsy…

I agree, i thought it was a good play.

On the flip side, I think the lure of Cavil Ave might be too strong for him

In general I agree the players should not get (too much) say in who is signed, in Carney's case, his playing ability is not in question, he would be awesome for us, his style would suit, he fills a whole we need filling, the question is what effect would signing Carney would have on the culture and how the players would feel about a player with a history of not playing by the clubs and team rules, the playing staff should be consulted on this one.

I think if the players didn't have a say in the depatures of Moltzen, Gibbs and Fifita, I don't it should be too hard getting Carney around them. They were all well liked by different elements of the playing group.

Look at it from the other side of the coin goose. Instead of what affect Carney will have on our culture, what about the affect our culture could have on Carney? Its well promoted how tight knit the squad is and how everyones mates, maybe thats what he needs. A close group of mates that will make him want to play better football and stay off the piss for the sake of the teams performance. He never went drinking alone when he was at the roosters so maybe the team environment he was put in is as much to blame as he was.

Id take Carney in a heartbeat!! Imo aside from being stupid he really isnt that bad and what a 6/7/9 combo we would have!!!

And he kicks a meam goal too!!!

Yes please!!

You are right, the cavill ave nightstrip will be tempting but they might put Gilmeister on him, he gets crash tackled by the axe if seen in cavill

I played cricket with carney in goulborn back then. He was all set to sign with us back then ink. Liked the club liked sheens. Unfortunatly the players didn't want him. Then he went to atherton for the 12 month he was de registered then signed with the roosters.

In most cases players have no say but when it comes to players like carney team morale is more important and simply put wests doesn't need him

That's pretty well said SG. It definitely doesn't make sense to get rid of one trouble and sign another.

I would see little chance of the Tigers even approaching Carney, let alone signing him.

I dont think Carney will go overseas as he could have Passport troubles, Titans offer of $70,000 per year less tax doesnt leave a lot to drink with, might be a good idea once you think about it. But with Moltzen & possibly Lui goining he could end up @ camp Concord.

Interesting that some peeps think sucking beers and domestic stuff ss similar offences as far as bad behaviour goes!!

To moi its chalk and cheese.

Cunno if "The Axe" crash tackles Carney every time Carney would be on Cavill Ave Carney won't spend much time on the playing field
And Gilly keep him away from the "Crazy Horse" OK
