Not everyone has had the same opportunity as others to access vaccines. Until the entire population is vaccinated and able to chose the vaccine of their choice, this is a non starter.

Once vaccination is open to everyone then I expect these sort of restrictions will come in.

Not having a crack…..but why? Why actual restrictions/legislation/control? Why not when vaccination numbers are high enough, life goes on and the unvaccinated take their chances?

Because people who aren't vaccinated aren't only putting themselves at risk.

100% agree but isn’t that their risk? If you and I are vaccinated, why should we care. If they put themselves at risk?

Besides the (IMO) obvious and serious implications with civil liberties, misuse and control of power, these ideas of vaccine passports required for social events such as sports, clubs etc will result in denser concentration of unvaxxed in “other” events.

If we get enough vaxxed…….game on

Because people who decide not to be vaccinated are not only risking their lives but those that can not be vaccinated due to health reasons. That is why high vaccination rates are important se we can protect the vunerable as well.

There is also the risk that the virus transmitting amongst the unvaccinated will allow it to mutate into something that is resistant to the vaccines we have and thus actually putting everyone at risk.

He has also been told by the local member that a bill is being drafted that will give employers the right to hire and fire based on people’s vax status.

I’m getting vaxxed but if that happens I though it is disgraceful, dangerous and unnecessary.

I genuinely don’t understand the push. People make their decision. Get vaxxed or not. If not you are on your own. Who are these laws supposed to protect?

There are people who can not be vaccinated through no fault of their own.

Understood. Would be interested in actual numbers.

Life is dangerous. Between 500-1200 die every year (pre COVID) in Australia from influenza. It is not reasonable to completely hand over life to authority to achieve zero deaths. Mark my words. This is the next conversation (as it needs to be), how many deaths per year are acceptable to live with without restrictions? 1000? 500? 100?zero?

No one should be forced to be vaccinated in my opinion
Every individual has rights and is perfectly entitled to make their own decision
Nothing is likely to change my mind

It's the health care system that we have to manage. I agree with letting the unvaccinated do everything they want but they shouldn't be allowed into the health care system.

I honestly think that is the correct economic approach.

It won't fly though so we will have to manage the unvaccainated getting hospitalized. If we somehow get herd immunity via a large percentage getting vaccinated the unvaccainated get a free ride.

The whole approach now across the world is managing the unvaccinated. You need to ensure they don't clog up the health system. If you get too many unvaccinated getting infected it's a disaster.

I would be interested in those numbers as well, as I don't know what % of people are unable to have the vaccines.

I do remember a friend and I applied for a holiday job at the local abattoir when we were teenagers, we both had skin tests for Q Fever. I had already had Q fever but he hadn't. As he was allergic to eggs he couldn't have the Q fever vaccination and the company refused to employ him. This sort of stuff isn't without precedent.

It won't be like this. It'll be based on how the health care system will handle it.

It'll be interesting what numbers become acceptable.

I mentioned the UK is a success atm. They were getting over 100 daily deaths at the point it was considered a success.

I agree high vax rates are critical and all for protecting those that can’t be vaxxed, but pre COVID there have always been vulnerable/immune suppressed but we haven’t shut down society or compromised civil liberties for them. I don’t think it should start now. I do NOT equate COVID and influenza but with high enough vaxxed rates they are comparable (uk is just about there now).

There is also the risk that the virus transmitting amongst the unvaccinated will allow it to mutate into something that is resistant to the vaccines we have and thus actually putting everyone at risk.

With each infection (vaxxed or unvaxxed) there is the possibility of genetic mutation which leads to new variants. Technically speaking, the real accelerant of variants is “breakthrough “ cases in vaxxed people. Mutations happen all the time but if it happens in a vaxxed breakthrough case it has headstart in that it is already genetically past the vaccine.

Decisions have consequences. I have no problem with people making their own decision not to get vaccinated, that is their right.

I have the right to not be placed at risk by being exposed to people that are more likely to put others at risk or carry a communicable disease. It is the same as I have the right to drive without having to expect to encounter a drunk driver that is more likely to cause an accident.

There have been immune suppressed people since day dot. We do not restrict civil liberties for wider populations.

For what it’s worth the CDC stated the other day that fully vaccinated people can spread the Delta variant just as fast as those who go without the jab

Where are these 'discussions' happening. Any peer reviewed science?

I'm unaware of autoimmune responses/disorders to routine vaccinations aside from the vanishingly small number of Guillain-Barré cases encountered.

I would vaccinate no matter what if I could somehow get a pfizer jab.

I have never been allergic to anything in my life until, 12 months ago... all of a sudden broke out in hives for 14 weeks out of nowhere, my immune response went in to hyperdrive. Needles arent a good option for me, but damn, if they could get the pfizer here I would still do it.

It's been suggested that to attend mass gathering events such as Sport ,Concerts ,Restaurants etc proof of vaccination will be required.Would you get vaccinated to watch Wests Tigers

The immune-compromised don't get to make that choice.

Ironically there is a lot of discussion out there that auto immune issues are a side effect of childhood vaccinations

Where are these 'discussions' happening. Any peer reviewed science?

I'm unaware of autoimmune responses/disorders to routine vaccinations aside from the vanishingly small number of Guillain-Barré cases encountered.

Yes there are, I’m sure you can find them pretty easily if you have a look
