Wow

To be honest I don't believe much of what Benji is saying, he's taking the easy out in saying he's rattled, I don't know what's going on at the club.

The players will all know where they stand and who is on the chopping block and who isn't. I'm sure Benji as one of our biggest names knows more then he's letting on.

This is awful. I am almost in tears.

It sounds like the inverse of the Moltzen situation. Is it standard practice at this ridiculous club to not present contracts to players? Wtf is wrong with them?

Who is going to sign with us when we pull this crap on players with contracts?

Can someone confirm the decision to let them go was sheens? The way beau discussed it, I thought it sounded like it came from elsewhere

Wow with Beau's interview.

Said he didn't feel like a priority. He said he agreed to terms last year and earlier this year but never formally signed. He then began to want his future secured. He said also that he can look Chris in the eyes and say that he is his best mate.
He said he and Chris weren't honoured contracts like they should have been with what happened at the end of last season. He said that the fabric of the club is being torn apart.
He said that there were miscommunication at the top though he did stress that Humphreys does a good job.

The last place Benji is going to stump up the truth is on TFS. He knows way more and he'll keep it to himself

As for Benji well perhaps if he had played better and got us to the finals then he would still be playing with his mates

That's ridiculous. Because we aren't playing finals, is the reason players are leaving? And because Benji didn't play well is the reason we didn't make finals? That's really poor to assume that.

You won't get confirmation but think about it like this.

The management on two separate occasions offered him a three year contract but for some reason was never offered paperwork. There are two explanations. The unlikely one that it was administrative error. The likely one is that one person in charge of retention was not on the same page as someone with the power to overcall. Who in the club has the power to veto decisions like that?

Benji did seem a little off with hearing that news.

Well if the rumours of it being Sheens or Farah and Fulton are true, I assume Benji would have taken the side of the players. Being coaches pet would endear him to nobody in that situation and though he loves Sheens, I am sure that even he knows that Farah is more important to the Tigers than Sheens. That could have been a look of "oh crap Robbie is gonna be upset."

My take on what was said:

Benji was luke warm at best about Sheens. Given his recent article in the Sun Herald he seemed to be far less supportive than in that column.

Clearly he knows more about what is going on than he let on; but that is to be expected. In a way, despite the fact that, at a personal level he obviously regrets Beau and Chris moving to the Sharks I almost got the impression that he may understand that it is something that had to happen.

From Beau - one thing that struck me was that he went out of his way twice to say nice things about Humphreys. He said nothing negative about Wests Tigers whatsover and in fact praised the club and its supporters.

The main thing that came through was that it was all a bit mysterious. He never clearly explained what has gone on. He didnt really join the dots between his announcement on the footy show that he had agreed to a 3 year deal and the situation as of today. All that was said was that the paperwork never materialised. That seems a bit strange to say the least, particularly when you are praising Humphreys.

Hope this is of interest to those who missed it.

I was more interested in what he didn't say. Reading between the lines this is what I think happened:

Beau agreed to terms and both parties were happy and due to this no one rushed to have the contract signed
Heighno told he would only get a one year contract -beau devastated
Beau and Highno approach sharks as a package deal which they accept
He tells club he is leaving and in doing so goes back on his word

So who thinks they are bigger than the club…..

He said there was a miscommunication at the top. As he was seemingly going out of his way to protect Humphrey's, he did not do the same for Sheens. The only time he mentioned Sheens was when he said the coach had a fair bit on his plate. He didn't really look to protect him at all.

Could have there been a difference of opinion to keeping Beau?

He didn't have much pull with mason. Maybe this year was decided by the front office maybe …

I call Bulls#$t on Beau.

He himself said he received the formal paperwork this week, but by then had hurt feelings about not feeling like a priority. I assume he thinks he should be a priority because he is a big tv star. Maybe, maybe not. The club didn't willingly cut him at all, and if I was the club I would be ropable at media outlets saying he was told to look around, he clearly wasn't. He saw the opportunity to get a better deal and took it.

Did anyone else catch his not so subtle dig about Lote still being around, maybe that was the reason he decided to jump, thinking he wouldn't have a spot in firsts next year.

If I was Beau I'd be very careful about playing the game he is playing. He is an average footy player at best, and his party tricks on the footy show are wearing very thin. He will only get by if people see him as a likeable guy. Tonight I saw a man-child trying to weasel his way out of admitting his departure was largely his own decision.

And please! - you've had a pretty blessed life if the "worst" day of your life is signing a contract that will probably net you $700-$800k over the next three years. That must have been horrible. Tears would be completely appropriate in such trying circumstances.

I was horrified at what I saw on the footy show tonight. The thing that worried me most was the proof that there is a complete disconnect between what we think these guys are in the team for and what they think they are in the team for. For them it is all about the sh#ts and giggles and bromance. This has festered to the point that it is likely too late to right the on-coming train wreck. The professionalism and defined boundary that they are paid very well to play football with the utmost commitment is completely absent. Benji obviously has his nose out of joint now - I can't see him getting past this. No amount of cajoling will soothe his hurt feelings. I can't believe I am saying this, but maybe he should go too…..

We had a nice ride while it lasted folks.

No player should be bigger than the club. After being a Benji fan for many years, I do feel it is time for him to move on. I can't recall seeing other clubs/players being so much in the spotlight and carrying on about their hurt feelings. Please. Make it stop.

This what I got:

We still have no idea what is going on, or more to the point why?
Beau is leaving, based on a principal (good on him, that's his right)
The playing group culture is a big part of the problem at the club
Humpty is playing mediator between factions
Benji is the reason why Sheens survived last nights meeting. (the board has the numbers, but not the guts)

Did I mention we still have no idea what is really going on?

I'd be very surprised if he doesn't make the final call on every player at the club including NYC and NSW Cup

Your totally right Softlaw , but Humphrey's is the executioner
