WT and Balmain Debt Article

Agree with Simon because he lives in Melbourne he can't be biased or support the magpies. Although I guess this forum does prove over time that some people are very narrow in their view of who can or can't be a supporter.

I notice all those wests supporters have hiply ignored that balmain supported them through the first 3 years. It seems the magpies bias is over running the club. A black jersey and a white jersey next year, a wests logo on the sleeve but no balmain logo, 5 games at Campbelltown including a trial all year v 4 at Leichhardt despite bigger crowds at Leichhardt. This so called joint venture with its wests bias is sad and disappointing -why can't balmain get its fair share

As has been the catch cry from so many from the Balmain side for so many yrs:

Get over it

Iam with Watto, I would have given Wests the casting vote, lets face it the decisions being made by the board are about the Weststigers not wests or balmain so whats the big deal in one faction having the casting vote.

The clubs going nowhere with the boardroom in constant turmoil. Start it fresh a few new faces in the board room and a new CEO

Yep, it all starts at the top. The NRL is finally going forward with the new independant board. West and Balmain need to hand it over to some people with no ties to them. Make sure the club's name, colours and being based in Sydney cant be changed then hand it over.

And people wonder why we have on field issues

The quicker that Balmain and Wests have no association with the Wests Tigers the better

It makes you wonder why players will go to really cash strapped clubs like the Titans and Sharks but won't touch the Tigers with a ten foot pole

The 3 grounds ,2 entities must have some bearing imo on all of our problems

Whos going to pay or financially back a WT club with no ties to Wests or Balmain? That includes Ashfield and Campbelltown leagues clubs who also part own WT.

Its time Balmain sorts out it $$$$ situation for the sake and future of WT. That flows down to both on and off the field.

Its the almighty dollar that rules the roost, not so much the wests and balmain factions when it comes to the structure and future of WT.

I don't think it's that simple

It's all well and good saying some rich benefactor comes and "takes over" the wests tigers but last time I checked balmain and western suburbs are the sole and joint owners of the wests tigers.
If neither group is willing to let the other even have the short term upper hand in the boardroom, it's fiction to suggest one of the group let alone both give up ownership completely to anyone else.

Not give up ownership but have an independant board run it. Similar to the NRLthat has the ARLC as its board. I agree it wont happen though , the fools cant even have the wests tigers state cup team wear wests tigers jerseys. We're no chance of them getting the 'big' calls right.

How do people reckon we can make the wests tigers remove this stupid wests vs balmain argument?

Cause, the board members arent exactly gonna take on what the fans want here very easily and remove their own power. I just reckon we should somehow fire the lot of them and run it like a BUSINESS not a boys club and hire qualified business people with a bit of footy knowledge and some specialised people who know footy VERY well to advise them. But that power transition is very tricky….can we go above the board? :bulb:

Simon, Masters is more a Storm lackey these days - his articles are always factual and to the point - but unless he kisses some black and orange butt he is just another hack to you.

Independent take overs or WT preserving their tradition in NSW cup with balmain and wests jerseys or perceived or actual division between fan bases does not make the mounting debts go away.

WT is 13 years old but many Balmain & Wests fans and club power men are still active and alive. Perhaps in 2050 when most original balmain & wests fans die off then you can have a truly impartial WT structure. 13 years has not killed off Balmain or Wests football clubs yet.

If Sharks cant find sponsors or a takeover owner then why do WT fans here think someone will come in, pay off Balmain's (and any other liabilities like sheens payout) debt then take control of WT for no real benefit to the new owner?

I doubt the constitution would allow a third party to buy out any partner without the approval/first option rights of the other parties…

I don't think it will ever be independent although it probably should. This can't go on forever surely. Like I said earlier whilst there are 2 boards there will be 2 sets of supporters. Balmain really has to get their stuff together and totally agree they should have accepted the $1.5 million. No money and no willingness to negotiate reasonable terms are going to lead to their demise. Something will give soon.

From what i am reading all Balmain came up with was the $160,000 they have owed for months - what has happened to the promise of a further $250,000 within the 2 week timeframe?

Reality is Balmain are broke sad but true,in the end when the money runs out so does the say so I think interesting times ahead.Who knows how all of this is going to pan out a very bad situation for all really, hopefully something will be soughted out that all will be happy with but I suspect all lot will be unhappy.

Personally I thought it was one of the better Roy Masters articles on this topic. At least there was some balance this time. But I'll say it again, the leagues club funding model is on the way out - arguing about $160k in what a $10mil turnover business says a lot.
