dont expect too much from gildart.he gets run over most weeks in super league.hope im wrong but awful signing. hastings is class different quality.bye bye brooks this guy will guide us round. sorry brooks fans but hes had enough chances.

Thanks brother.
Few of us have been saying the same thing.

Love a Hastings x AD combo.

Strong, vocal, electric.
They would feed off each other's energy and it'd really push each other to succeed.

Big fan of what could be from these two.

We're all hopeful for Gildart but the expectations have always been low. Good luck to him.

Who's your super league team lad?

Brooks might not be the problem, but our consistent failure to make the finals means that he certainly isn't the answer.

True. But it is obvious what the answer is…..missing a back rower and lock and some centres at a minimum. While that remains the problem we will always be mediocre and bottom 8 team no matter the other changes. And that my friend is clear. Hope I am wrong however and we win 2022 or even get anywhere near close, but I am currently comfortable and confident that it won’t be happening in 2022.

As has become tradition, following on from the 2019 & the 2020 threads, here is the 2021 thread for recruitment and retention. Given the late finish to the year and the fact that the NRL have not established next years cap amount yet, obviously we have a potentially great deal of movement in the market to happen yet but I’ll add to it as we go.

Kelma Tuilagi deserves a spot..

I think we need to be ruthless with retention. We cut/lose Walters, Packer, MCK, Amone, Cini, BJ, JTJ and Mbye (hopefully). Not sure about Hoffman if he is guaranteed a spot or if we can let him go.
Re-sign Seyfarth and Mikaele(just) and we have Hastings and Gildart coming. With development contracts included, i think we should have 4 spots available?
Prop, lock, centre x2 - only strong competitors, leaders and winners please. Guys that are in top 17 each week.

Ruthless? Lol...
@Geo I just got a reply from CEO.
Sounds like a lot of empty promises.

Said the market is quiet despite it appearing to me quite active.

It's true in a way..I can't say there is a lot off contract at the end of season I would think wow..that guy would make a difference to our squad.. a few you might consider an upgrade on what we have..Smith-Shields, E Butcher as example

Most of the recent 'big names' TPJ, Funicane (despite Belly's ramblings.) weren't in their current Clubs plans so moved on..

We picked up Maumalo in those circumstances.. no fuss no fanfare..it is the better way to do recruitment..

They are active in the market.. just not in the media about it lesson learnt I hope..

Newspaper exract - July17, 2021

Australia’s Rugby Sevens star Lachie Miller is chasing more than just a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

He also wants to show NRL clubs he is worthy of a contract to play league as a halfback.

Miller has put a new two-year offer from the Australian Rugby Union on hold until after the Olympics when he will decide his future.

Type ‘Lachie Miller highlights’ into You Tube and you will find the most stunning action footage — speed, explosive acceleration, elusiveness and a beautiful passing game. The 28-year-old Olympian, who leaves for Tokyo on Monday, is a born and bred ‘leaguey’ from Coffs Harbour .

It wasn’t until rugby’s legendary Ella brothers Mark, Gary and Glen, held their sevens tournament in Coffs Harbour four years ago that Miller’s career took off.

“I played in Glen’s team in the Ella 7’s,” Miller said. “He told me I’ve got some talent and should be playing for Randwick in Sydney and sevens footy.
“I got into the development system with the ARU and then a contract to play sevens.” While the Aussies are rated a genuine hope and Miller has thrown his efforts into the campaign, he still has this incredible passion for league. “I’ve always played league at halfback, fullback or hooker and loved running the football,” he said.
“That’s sevens footy. Heaps of running, plenty of space, but it’s really hard.

“The contact isn’t as physical as NRL but in the sevens it’s short and sharp and you’re constantly sprinting — it’s a different fitness to rugby league.” **Miller is looked after by Joe Wehbe and Anthony Field in the same stable that manages NRL superstars James Tedesco and Daly Cherry Evans.** “My focus is a gold medal and we’re definitely a chance,” Miller said, “plus my family and our new baby, Billy.

I’m now thinking about setting up for my future. “Obviously the Olympics could open some doors.

**I’ve always dreamt of playing NRL. The new rules could really suit me with the faster game and more fatigue**. “Union have been great and offered me an extension. “I’ve just parked everything until after Tokyo to ensure I’ll be fully focused for Tokyo.”

I'm not saying we should sign him I played against him from under 13s till 18s when I gave the game a way and then took up reffing hahaha bad choice on my part. But he was one of the most talented half's in group 2 coming through the grades he was with the Broncos Academy at the age of 12 he was supposed to sign with dragons after he took Coffs Harbour u18s to a grandfinal victory but done his acl he stuck around the group 2 area for a while after that a won a couple of 1st grade grandfinals and then later on moved to Sawtell to captain coach them to a major finals as the article says can play many positions and do that really well a hooker five-eighth or fullback really strong kicking game and great vision I reckon he would be a handy pick up for any club despite his age

Are we serious? Highlights mainly against USA & minnows in 7s. Big difference in the NRL and at 28. Didn’t see too much tackling. Talks a nice game about playing NRL - good luck to him.

Not as though we kill it at 7s either.

Personally, I’d get as far away as possible.

Chalk and cheese - I don’t think we’d be that stupid to take the risk.

He’s played league he’s whole life apart from the last 3/4 years where he’s played 7s
Tim sheens has already spoke to him personally as well n wants him on board
Would get him cheap n covers a lot of positions

Did you mention that because Wehbe is known as the touch footy guru?
